 Intro

Settling into an ordinary life was surprisingly easy for Percy. Percy saw it as early retirement
and after saving the Gods' butts two years in a row it was a happily anticipated change.
School was the only difficult part of settling into an ordinary life. Percy returned home after 9
months of almost dying only to find out that he was kicked out of his school for "truancy." It
was a kick of dirt in Percy's many wounds. Thankfully, Percy's stepdad, Paul, was able to get
Percy into Alternative High School, which was the only school in the State of New York that
would take him.

So Percy's awake, at midnight, trying to study but failing miserably without Annabeth to help
him. Percy has done all-nighters many times before, he's a demigod after all, many times
during quests Percy had gone without his fair share of sleep but it was different. On Percy's
old quests, he would be fighting monsters, his adrenaline keeping him awake, and his ADHD
keeping him occupied, plus he usually had Annabeth there to keep him company. Percy
closed his eyes, he was so tired but he knew he had to study, Percy shook his head and
opened his eyes.

Percy looked around at his surroundings, in the seconds his eyes were shut he magically
appeared in an unfamiliar cinema. Percy put his hand inside his pocket, his fingers lancing
around Riptide. His first thought was Hera, panic rising in his chest, surely he hadn't been
kidnapped by the goddess, not again.

"Percy?" His ears perked up as he heard the familiar voice of his girlfriend.

Percy turned around, his sea green eyes landing on Annabeth, Her blonde locks were in a
messy bun, she was wearing pyjamas with 'architecture is cool' printed on the shirt.
"Annabeth!" He exclaimed, a bit of Percy happy to see her but another part growing
increasingly concerned.

Suddenly the rest of Percy's friends started to appear, Jason, Thalia, Piper, Hazel, Frank,
Nico, Reyna and Leo. Percy asked the question that was on everyone's mind, "Where are
we?"

Piper's eyes widened as she saw her curly-haired best friend, "Leo!" Piper him as the boy
chuckled. "Where have you been!? You stopped by once! Once to let me know that you're
alive and then you ghost me for five months!"

Jason shook his head, "Piper be nice, he's been busy with his girlfriend~"

Leo blushed, "Sorry, sorry. But I think the fact that we've been kidnapped and all put in a
creepy cinema is a bit more important than me ghosting you, Pipes."

"I can't shadow travel," Nico speaks up. Percy looks at the pale boy, it's been five months
since he's seen Nico last when the boy simultaneously tells him that he had a crush on Percy
for the last 4 years and that Percy was no longer his type. Percy was surprised to see that
Nico's colour was starting to return to him, the Italian boy was still pale but he didn't look
ghostly anymore, in fact, Nico looked the healthiest he'd been since he was 11.

Percy tried to feel the water in the room, usually, Percy could feel the vaporised water in the
air, the lipids in his friends' bodies but right now he felt nothing.

"I can't shapeshift."

"Hello!" Percy flinched as he heard the young voice of a prepubescent girl, without even
thinking Percy unshielded Riptide and aimed it at the girl, "Who are you?"

Standing in front of Percy is a young girl with chestnut hair and sapphire eyes, she's only
young, possibly 11-12 years old. "My name is Alyx, I'm the daughter of Chronos, the God of
time."

"Kronos?" Thalia asks as she crosses her arms, "Like the father of Zeus?"

"No, that's Kronos, I'm the daughter of Chronos. Anyways, you can't use your powers
because I've frozen time and brought each of you here to react to something."

"React?" Hazel questions.

"Correct! Today I'm going to show you Epic The Musical! It's a musical about Odysseus and
his journey through the Sea of Monsters."

Annabeth frowns, she knows that name. Odysseus, Annabeth has read The Odyssey, she
remembers Odysseus but at the same time, it feels like there is something in his brain hiding
that information from her.

"Also, freezing time can be a bit uncomfortable, you may start to feel sick or lightheaded but
that's okay because you won't remember any of this after I unfreeze time."

Jason shakes his head, "If we're not going to remember any of this, what the point of you
even showing us?"

Alyx grins, "I was bored. Okay, everyone take a seat, the video is about to start."

It took a little while for everyone to find their seats. Percy took his seat next to Annabeth,
Hazel sat beside Frank, and Thalia ruffled Annabeth's hair as she sat next to the blonde. In the
row behind them, Nico sat behind Percy, Jason sat on Nico's right, and Reyna took the seat to
his left. Leo took the last seat on Jason's left.

Alyx stood in front of the screen, glancing at her watch, which was like nothing Percy had
ever seen before. The watch was made out of celestial bronze and has clear quartz
embroidered with clear quartz. "What's with the watch? Isn't time supposed to be paused here
or something?"

Alyx jumped at the question. "Oh, my watch?" she said, hiding her hand behind her back.
"It's nothing. Don't worry. Let's just start with the reaction, okay?"

Percy glanced at Annabeth, he knew that she was believing the girl for a second.

[ODYSSEUS]
Alright, my brothers, listen closely

"Oh, it's started!" Frank looked at the screen to see a man's face.

Tonight we make the Trojans pay

Ten years of war, they've killed us slowly

But now we'll be the ones who slay

"Is that a horse?!" Hazel asked excitedly, she thought about her horse friend, Arion. It's been
a while since she's been able to visit him, her new position as Praetor has kept her busy.
 Think of your wives and your children

Your families wonder where you've been

They're growing old and yet you're still here

Do what I say and you'll see them again

Most of the half-bloods in the room cringe, they have had their fair share of war. Piper didn't
see her dad for months, Percy returned home after being missing for 8 months and when he
returned home, he found out his mother was pregnant with his unborn sister.

Everyone in the room has a moment where they've wondered if they'll ever see their family
and friends again.

[CREW]

Yes, sir

[ODYSSEUS]
Diomedes will lead the charge

Agamemnon will flank the guards

Menelaus will let our men through the gates

To take the whole city at large

Teucer will shoot any ambush attack

And Little Ajax will stay back

Nestor, secure Helen and protect her

Neo, avenge your father, kill the brothers of Hector

Annabeth and Frank watched in awe as Odysseus strategised some of the most recognisable
names in Greek Mythology. If Annabeth didn't know any better, she would have assumed that
Odysseus was one of her siblings, his strategising was on par with a child of Athena.

[CREW]
 Yes, sir

[ODYSSEUS]

Find that inner strength now

Use that well of pride

Fight through every pain now

Reyna smiled as she listened to Odysseus readying his men of battle, Reyna had led the
Twelfth Legion to battle many times, she knew better than anyone, that morale is just as
crucial as a good weapon.

Jason frowned as he remembered his time in Ithicia, how Hera had only agreed to help him
because Odysseus' home reminded her of Odysseus' loyalty.

[ODYSSEUS]

Attack

They all sit there frozen as they listen to the battle cries of the soldiers, they watch the man
blunge into battle, swords swinging and arrows flying. The sight was almost too much, only
five months ago they thought of their war, one against Gaea, sometimes they still couldn't
believe they won that battle.

Aargh

Who was that?

[ZEUS]

A vision

Of what is to come, cannot be outrun

Can only be dealt with right here and now

Thalia rolled her eyes as she looked at her father morphed into the clouds.

[ODYSSEUS]
 Tell me how

[ZEUS]

I don't think you're ready

A mission

To kill someone's son

A foe who won't run

Unlike anyone you have faced before

[ODYSSEUS]

Say no more, I know that I'm ready

Leo chuckled unfortablely, "Dude is way too eager to kill some, he wouldn't even let Zeus
finish explaining."

Jason nodded, his eyes locked on the Greek version of his dad.

[ZEUS]

I don't think you're ready

Hazel gasped, "No!" There wasn't even anything on the screen but from the sound of a
lullaby Hazel had a chill go down her spine, Nico grabbed his sister's hand. The others had
their eyes on the screen, most of them anticipating the reveal of Odysseus' foe.

[ODYSSEUS]

It's just an infant

"What?!" Percy exclaimed. "WOW! Just wow! This is a whole new low for the Gods. Killing
a baby! A baby!" Percy threw his arms in the air.

Thalia shook her head, she was furious but unfortunately not surprised by her father.

Frank hugged Hazel who looked like she was about to cry, Reyna was speechless. Piper
looked almost as angry as Percy while Nico looked even more ghostly than usual. Leo tried
thinking on a joke but for once he was too shocked to think of anything.

It's just a boy

What sort of imminent threat does he pose, that I cannot avoid?

Annabeth grabbed Percy's hand, "Odysseus is smart, I'm sure he'll find a solution where he
doesn't need to kill the baby."

[ZEUS]

This is the son of none other than Troy's very own Prince Hector

Know that he will grow from a boy to an avenger

One fueled with rage as you're consumed by age

If you don't end him now, you'll have no one left to save

Thalia got goosebumps as she listened to Zeus describe baby Astyanax, a part of
his description reminds her of Luke. Sometimes she still finds it hard to see the fourteen-
year-old boy she knew before she turned into a tree as the mad twenty-year-old she woke up
to find.

Nico remembered Bryce Lawrence, a man who he killed. Nico didn't want to kill him, it was
out of self-defence but could he do it if Bryce was a baby? If Nico could go back in time and
meet Bryce as an infant before he got the chance to harm anyone, would Nico still be able to
do the same thing that he did?

[ODYSSEUS]

I could raise him as my own

[ZEUS]

He will burn your house and throne

[ODYSSEUS]

Or s end him far away from home

[ZEUS]

He'll find you wherever you go

[ODYSSEUS]

Make sure his past is never known

[ZEUS]

This is the will of the gods

The colour drained from Annabeth's face, her hopes that Odysseus might be able to strategize
his way out of killing Astyanax disappearing, "This is a prophecy..."

"One that doesn't leave much room for interpretation too..." Leo muttered. There are some
things they can cheat, but prophecies aren't one of them, Leo had to die and then come back
to life again to survive his prophecy.

[ODYSSEUS]

Please don't make me do this, don't make me do this

Hazel was crying now as she listened to Odysseus' plead to not kill the baby, she wanted to
yell at the screen to say that it was unfair for her uncle to be making him do this but she knew
there was no point, this all happened 3000 years ago, if Astyanax is dead, he's dead.

The hearts of everyone who was in the room broke as they looked at oblivious Astyanax, the
infant who was happily greeting the stranger who approached his crib.

[ZEUS]

The blood on your hands is something you won't lose

All you can choose is whose

Jason and Leo looked at each other, that line hitting them a lot harder than they were proud to
admit, five months ago that line applied to them.

"What happened-"

"Sh!! The next song is starting!"

Think back to the son of mine

The half-blood look at Odysseus holding Astyanax. "He's not going to be able to do it, is he?"
Piper asked her friends, a mixture of hopeful and disagreeing faces across the room.

Frank shakes his head, "He sees his son in the baby."

Annabeth bites her lip, Odysseus was the smartest hero in Greek Mythology, a champion of
her mother, and surely he finds a loophole, a way to save Astyanax.

You're as old as he was

When I left for war

Will these actions haunt my days?

Every man I've slain the price I pay, endless pain

Thalia sighed, Odysseus is just a mortal, he isn't a demigod like herself and her friends, he
doesn't have any powers to defend himself against the gods. She looked at Annabeth, her
grey eyes watching the screen intently, Thalia knew Annabeth was trying to find a solution.

Close your eyes

And spare yourself the view

"He's being so fatherly," Jason pointed out.

How could I hurt you?

Hazel is now hugging Frank, she remembers dying, wandering around in the fields of
asphodel, she wouldn't wish death on anyone, especially not a baby.

"It's okay," Frank whispered to her, his voice was hopeful, enough to make Hazel believe
Astyanax was going to be okay.

I'm just a man

Who's trying to go home

Leo yelled at the screen, "We have all spent our time away from home because of the gods
but none of us would ever even think about killing a baby!"

"It's not that easy of choice, if Ulysses were to deny Jupiter he probably would have punished
him and his family or Jupiter's warning would have been true and Astyanax would have
killed his family," Reyna added, she was just as angry at Zeus and Odysseus but she
understood were the hero was coming from, the Gods don't respond kindly to being
disobeyed.

Leo rolled his eyes.

Even after all the years away from what I've known

I'm just a man

Whose fighting for his life

Deep down I would trade the world to see my son and wife

Percy understood Odysseus, during his time on the Argo II he would have done anything to
see his mother again, to eat her blue cookies again. Percy spent so much time fighting for his
life but he didn't care about the glory that came with it, he just wanted to go home.

I'm just a man

But when does a comet become a meteor?

When does a candle become a blaze?

Annabeth gasped, she saw where this was going, other people in the room were obvious, but
Annabeth wasn't one of them. Thalia placed a hand on hers, she must have seen where this
was going too.

When does a man become a monster?

Percy thought about his time in Tartarus, how he had scared Annabeth while torturing the
goddess Akhyls, Percy did it out of self-defence but the thing that really haunted him, was
that he enjoyed it. When did Percy become the type of person to enjoy torturing someone?
When he was protecting Annabeth, when he fell into Tartarus, when he was claimed?

When does a ripple become a tidal wave?

When does the reason become the blame?

When does a man become a monster?

"Oh my gods," Piper whispered as she saw Odysseus pick up Astyanax.

"He's picking him up by his blanket..."

"To make it less personal," Nico suggested.

The room was speechless as they saw the infant's mother call out for her baby but being held
back by Greek soldiers. They watch as Andromache cries, knowing there is nothing she can
do for her baby.

"That's cruel!" Hazel exclaimed, and everyone in the room agreed.

Everyone is now crying, unable to believe what they're witnessing.

"He's really going to do it, we're watching a musical about a baby killer!"

Not a single word was said as the screen went black, Annabeth shook her head, as a daughter
of Athena she was trying to think of a solution where Odysseus wouldn't have to kill

Piper and Leo were angry at Odysseus, they couldn't understand how he would kill a baby
and simply blame it on him being, 'just a man.'

Hazel, Percy and Thalia were also angry but not at Odysseus, they were angry with Zeus,
with the fates and with war. Frank was trying to comfort Hazel, but the boy was distant with
his feelings, in shock about what had just witnessed.

Jason stood up, "How many more songs do we need to listen to?"

"Roughly 38, would you all like a break?" Alyx offered.

Reyna shook her head, she had a feeling that things were somehow going to get a lot worse,
"No, let's just keep going."

"Okay, next song Full Speed Ahead."

Everyone was sitting down in their seat, they waited for the next song, wondering how this
musical could possibly move on from Odysseus killing a baby.

"600 MEN!?" Percy exclaimed, he couldn't imagine going on a quest with 600 people..

The demigods frown, they remember their time in the sea of monsters, they would be lucky
to go one day without being attacked by monsters.

"Oh! I remember Eurylochus!" Annabeth grinned as she remembered Odysseus' right handed
man. Alyx warned them that their memory might be a bit fuzzy because of time being
tampered with but she remembered his part in the story.

Six hundred men with big mouths to feed, and we've run out of supplies to eat

(Curse the war, our food store's depleted)

"Why are they still following him after they saw him kill a baby?" Leo asked.

"Because he's their King and Captain, it would be mutiny to not listen to his orders," Reyna
explained.

Annabeth shook her head, "Odysseus was one of the smartest heroes in Greek mythology, he
was a legacy of Hermes and Zeus, as well as a champion of Athena. They're heading into the
Sea of Monsters, it would be reckless to not follow him."

Jason and Reyna shuffled uncomfortably, from their time as Praetor they’ve had people come
to them for seemingly impossible task.

Annabeth nodded, that’s a smart plan.

Everyone smiled as they see Polites and Odysseus, watching as Odysseus suddenly goes from
serious to friendly, they watch Odysseus smile for the first time in three song.

The demigods know how hard war is but friends always help.

Look! There in the distance, I see an island

 I see a light that faintly glows

Maybe they're people lighting a fire

Maybe they'll share some food, who knows?

Nico frowned, he felt like something bad was going to happen to Polites.

[ODYSSEUS]

Something feels off here

I see fire but there's no smoke

[EURYLOCHUS]

I say we strike first, we don't have time to waste

So let's raid the place and-

Polites gear up, you and I'll go ahead

“No one else,” Leo corrected, causing Hazel to gasp, the last thing she wanted was to be
reminded of the last song.

The demigods in the room smiled, even though they were only ten seconds into the song they
could already tell it was going to be a nice change to what they’ve listened to previously.

Nico played with his ring, he couldn’t help the idea that something bad is going to happen to
Polites.

 Think of all that we have been through

We'll survive what we get into

I know that you're tired of the war and bloodshed

Tell me, is this how we're supposed to live?

Look at how you grip your sword enough said

Why should we take when we could give?

Percy put his hand in his pocket and grabbed Riptide, for the last five years Percy’s had to
fight everything between monsters and Gods, if Percy could retire, he would.

You could show a person that you trust them

When you stop and lower your guard

“Or you could give them to chance to kill you,” Thalia suggested, most of the half-bloods in
the room nodded, agreeing with the huntress.

Here we have a chance for some adjustment

Give it a try, it's not that hard

I'm telling you

This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms

The half-bloods laugh as they see a defeated Odysseus, although they feel for him, if they had
fought in ten year war, they would be done too. Hell, they went on a 9 month mission and
they got to the point where they wanted to reject their godly parentage.nds are waiting for us
to show our faces

Stay back, I'm warning you

If we don't get back safely, my men will turn this place into blazes

Annabeth’s eyes widened, “Those are lotus’s!”

Nico feels a chill go down his spine when he hears the name of the plants, he remembers his
time in the Lotus Hotel and how he and his sister were trapped there for 70 years.

[POLITES]

See? This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms

Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart

No matter the place, we can light up the world

It's a lotus, it controls your mind and never lets you free

That's what we'd get with open arms

“He’s still trusting them?”

“I can’t tell whenever to call him brave or stupid.”

“Awwww!” Hazel was dying of cuteness as the winions hug Polites, even though the winions
were bad and trying to trap Odysseus and Polites a moment before, she had to admit the
winions were adorable.

Leo scoffed, a part of him felt bad for him but another part was angry, he was after all
Calypso’s jerk ex-boyfriend.

strong to have been able to go through a ten year war and still want to see the best in people.

"Booooo!" Percy exclaimed as Annabeth's mother appeared on the screen. Annabeth nudged
him as she rolled her eyes.

"You can't disrespect a goddess like that," Reyna warned him.

"Why? Last time I checked, Athena can't time travel."

[ATHENA]

Have you forgotten to turn off your heart? This is not you

I see you changing from how I've designed you

"Designed?" Frank questioned, he turned to Annabeth, "Is Odysseus a child of Athena?"

Annabeth shook her head, "Athena couldn't have children in Ancient Greece, as a Virgin
Goddess, she hadn't figured out how to spawn children like she did with me."

Piper tilted her head, suddenly she realised that she didn't know how Annabeth was born, she
had assumed that she was made the same way she was. "Annabeth- What do you mean
spawn?"

"I was born out of a thought my mother had," Annabeth said simply, as if it was the most
common thing in the world. The Romans and Piper starred at Annabeth in utter shock,
causing Percy to chuckle at the expressions on his friends' faces.

"Dam, she can time travel," Percy said as he watched Athens bring Odysseus in the past.

"My mother can't time travel, Percy."

Percy grabbed Annabeth's hand, "She succeeded."

"Yeah!" Piper cheered. A few of the others cheered along. Annabeth smiled proudly.

"Ah! Athena's smiling," Leo jumped in his chair, a dramatic, over exaggerating reaction but
Percy and the others couldn't help by laugh.

Percy nodded, "It's freaky!"

One day a boy came for the thrill

A boy whose mind rivalled the boar's own will

"Aw, Odysseus was so cute as a kid," Hazel smiled as she looked at the younger version of
the hero.

"Er."

[ODYSSEUS]

"Wow, he's had people following him since he was a boy..."

"I know how that feels," Jason muttered to himself. Reyna's head snapped to his direction,
despite Nico sitting in between them, Reyna had somehow heard it his words. She frowned
sympathetically, Reyna was made Praetor which was 14 years old, she understood the
pressure he experienced but at the same time, she could never fully understand his experience
of at Camp Jupiter. He was raised there, at the age of 3 he became a child soldier, as the son
of Jupiter people looked up to him when he was so small he had to look up at them in return.

Jason nodded back, a quiet nod of understanding.

laced with confusion.

"Yep," Nico rolled his eyes.

Annabeth frowned, "Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Minerva..." she recalled her experiences with
her before her quest. Percy's grip on Annabeth's hand tightened, he didn't say anything but he
didn't need to, Annabeth knew what he meant.

"Athena can have friends?" Leo and Frank ask at the same time. They high-five, causing the
rest of the room to roll their eyes.

"Of course, Athena can have friends! She's a VIRGIN GODDESS, that doesn't mean she's

Annabeth smiled, they did follow her and as painful as Annabeth's quest was, the Athena
Parthenos saved both camps and the gods. They followed Athena and now, for the first time
ever, the Romans and Greeks get along. Athena would be proud.

Annabeth frowned as she saw Odysseus' face, the contrast of his young cheerful self who was
willing to do anything to impress the Goddess; to a tired middle aged man. She felt herself.
Five years ago, Annabeth would had done just about anything to seek her mother's approval,
but now... Annabeth grew tired of being in the Goddess' limelight.

Annabeth'a breath hinged. Percy held her hand tightly, she didn't say anything but she didn't
need to, Percy knew exactly what was going through her head. "You're not a
disappointment."

She nodded, her grey eyes refusing to meet his, "I know..."

Thalia nodded, "You've never been a disappointment, Annabeth. Even when you were a kid,
you were always the smartest out of us."

Annabeth grinned, she looked at Thalia, her grey eyes watering, "Thank you, really."

Alyx appeared in front of them, she looked at her watch, "Okay... That was the end of the
first saga, you guys have... Only 8 more to go!"

"8?" Thalia exclaimed, she had places to be. The immortal girl crossed her arms, "Only one
took forever!"

Alyx rolled her eyes, "It was only 16 minutes."

"It felt like longer," Leo counted.

"Whatever, I don't care. I offered you a break but Reyna said she wanted to keep going, so
we're going to keep going."

Thalia glared at her fellow huntress.

Alyx clapped her hands, "Okay, let's start the Cyclops Saga!"

[ODYSSEUS]

Hazel gasped as she saw Odysseus shoot a sheep, "Poor sheep!"

[POLITES]

Look at all this food, look at all these sheep

I can't believe this cave has all this for us to keep

Piper shook her head, not even if she was staving would she give up being vegetarian,
especially if she had to shoot down her own food.

[EURYLOCHUS]

I've gotta hand it to you both, this is quite the treat

There are enough sheep here to feed the entire fleet

[ODYSSEUS]

It's almost too perfect, too good to be true

Annabeth, Percy and Nico nodded, it was definitely too easy. If there was one thing they've
learnt from their years of quests, an easy quest usually has a catch.

Why would the lotus eaters pass up on all this food?

"Wait—" Annabeth froze as she realised who Odysseus was about to run into. A cave of
sheep... A cyclops... A similar creature from one of Percy and her past quests came to mind...
"Polyphemus..." she whispered to herself.

[POLYPHEMUS]

Who are you?

"Grover's ex-fiance," Percy joked.

Everyone other than Thalia and Annabeth looked at him in confusion, Thalia somewhat knew
about what had happened during the year she was resurrected, but it was only whispers and
quick comments, she had no idea Grover had been engaged to that thing.

"What?" Reyna asked, thinking it was just a weird Greek inside joke.

"A few years ago, Grover had been kidnapped by Polyphemus, as a way of surviving, Grover
tricked him into believing that Grover was a female cyclops.
Leo laughed, but the rest of the room shivered, they couldn't imagine being trapped with that
creature.

[ODYSSEUS]

Hey there

"He's so much bigger than Odysseus!"

We're just travellers

We come in peace

[POLYPHEMUS]

You killed my sheep

Gasps were heard from around the room as the Cyclops picked up Odysseus.

"Seriously?!" Piper exclaimed as she looked at her best friend.

eyes.

"Genius," Annabeth muttered to herself, she remembered the time when she pretended to be
nobody with her mother's invisibility cap, Polythemus was fuming.

"NO!" Everyone cried as they realised where this was going.

Everyone was on the edge of their seat, they knew Odysseus survived this because there were
8 other sagas but they were worried about his crew.

[ODYSSEUS]

My brothers

The rest of our fleet

They wait at the beach

And if we're defeated, they're good as dead

Straight ahead, that is who we're fighting

Reyna and Thalia watched intently as Odysseus led his men into battle, Reyna was watching
his every move, criticising and comparing it to how she had once let the Legions. Her hands
twitched, she wished she could help them, give Odysseus' men a bit of her strength but she
can't, this battle was fought 3000 years ago.

[CREW]

No backup, no chance for support

So draw out your swords

Our foe must be thwarted right here and now

"I hope nothing happens to Polites," Frank said nervously as the man came onto the screen.

Nico sighed, "He is too soft, how do we know he'll fight the Cyclops and not try to befriend
it?"

Piper shook her head, "There is no way he's that dumb."

Show me how great is your will to survive

"At least there are no prophecies this time," Percy pointed out, his friends nodded in
agreement, the fates haven't decided on Odysseus' men's fates yet which means there is a
chance for them to survive.

[ODYSSEUS & CREW]

Six hundred lives at stake

It's just one life to take

And when we kill him then our journey's over

"Well that's not true," Leo pointed out, "We still have 33 more songs."

No dying on me now

Defeat is not allowed

We must live through this day so

"Oh, dying isn't allowed? Let me just," Leo imitated a person coming to life. Jason chuckled
at his friend's antics, appreciating his attempt at lightening the mood.

[ODYSSEUS]

Surround him, surround him

Attack from behind, keep distance in mind

And stay in his blindspot and strike his heels, strike the heels

Annabeth smiled, "Smart."

Piper shivered, imagining the pain Polyphemus felt as 30-odd men slashed his heels with
swords. Piper didn't like the creature but she couldn't imagine it felt pretty.

Show him that we're deadly, ha, ha

Exhaust him, exhaust him

Don't let him get close, he's strong but he's slow

He can't land a blow if we're out of reach

Find a breach

Stand up and fight for your lives

Annabeth watched in awe, her cloudy eyes taking in every piece of action, analysing every
one of Odysseus' commands. She was retired from being a hero but Odysseus' tactics may be
useful information to remember.

[CREW, ODYSSEUS]

"Two."

Hazel gasped, she didn't want to remember the last couple of songs.

And when we kill him then our journey's over

Push forward

Everyone is on the edge of their seats, some of them (Thalia) even stood up, their adrenaline
kicking in and making them ready for battle.

Nico took notice of Polites, how everyone else was looking forward or posturing for battle,
he noticed how Polites kept looking behind. He didn't need his powers to know that Polites
was about to die, his gut told him and it was rarely wrong.

"They look like they're winning!" Frank beamed as the heroes got an advantage on
Polyhemous, and the Cyclops howled in pain.

Percy flinched at the sound, although Polyhemous was a bad guy, he was the same species as
his brother Tyson, Percy couldn't help but feel bad for the guy.

[POLITES]

Captain...

"NO!" Cries were heard throughout the room as Polites got hit.

The room went silent, a few sobs were heard but no more sarcastic jokes were coming from
Leo or hopefully comments. Everyone watched in silence as Odysseus' men got massacred.
 [POLYPHEMUS]

Enough

[SOLDIER]

He's got a club...

[SOLDIER]

What are our orders?

Captain? Captain!

"Why isn't he doing something?!" Thalia exclaimed, angrily watching as Odysseus stood
there crying, him leaving his friend's defenceless and to be slaughtered.

"His best friend was just killed in front of him!" Jason defended Odysseus, he remembered
when he thought Leo died, the pain he felt.

Reyna bit her lip, "He's their captain, he shouldn't freeze like this— even after seeing
something like that."

Nico nodded, he agreed with Reyna.

[POLYPHEMUS]

You've hurt me enough

Six hundred lives I'll take

Six hundred lives I'll break

And when I kill you then my pain is over

You're dying here and now

Escape is not allowed

You won't live through this day now die

 They watched as person after person got smashed, stabbed or slaughtered, Percy felt anger
swell in his chest but he wasn't angry at Odysseus, he understood Odysseus freezing, seeing a
friend die... it's a hard thing to shake.

Percy wasn't sure who he was angry at, possibly the Gods, that they weren't there to stop all
the death, maybe at Hermes, for not helping Odysseus like how he helped Percy, or maybe at
himself, for getting off of Polyphemus' island so easily when it was so difficult to do so in the
past.

Die...

"Did he just—"

"He passed out."

Percy frowned, he remembered the fallen campers who lost their lives in the Battle of the
Labyrinth and in the second Titan War, he remembered the Battle of Manhattan and Michael
Yew, how the Apollo Cabin Counseler's body was never found. All anyone could do was
remember him.

Percy looked around the room and saw that everyone seemed to be lost in their thoughts,
undoubtedly thinking about their fallen love ones. Percy's heart broke as he saw Nico, the
boy staring absent-mindedly at the screen, Percy felt his heart shrink as he remembered
Bianca.

When the fire begins to fade

For the fallen and afraid

We are not to let them die in vain

We're the ones who carry on

The flames of those who've gone

And our comrades will not die in vain

Piper looked away from the screen, she felt like she was intruding on a private moment. She
watched as a tear ran down Odysseus' face before he turned his attention to his crew.

I need all our hands on his club

This is how we're getting out of here

Use your swords to sharpen the stub

And turn it to a giant spear

Leo hated to admit it but he was starting to admire Odysseus, the way that he was able to use
his opponent's weapon to his advantage, it was smart and creative, and Leo admired it, but he
still hated Odysseus for leaving Calypso.

[SOLDIERS]

Let's kill him!

The seven nodded, they didn't understand why Odysseus was taking so long to kill the
monster.

Percy frowned as he remembered his own encounter with Polythemus, he couldn't kill him,
the Cyclops reminded him too much of his brother, Tyson.

[ODYSSEUS]
 His body is blocking the path

If we kill him we'll be stuck inside

[EURYLOCHUS]

Captain, where do we attack him?

[ODYSSEUS]

We gotta stab him in the eye

The room tensed as more Cyclopes began to appear, if one Cyclopes was such a hard feat,
how was Odysseus and his crew supposed to defeat more of them?

[EURYLOCHUS, spoken]

There are more of them?

"There was only Polythemus when we went there..." Percy muttered to Annabeth, she nodded
in agreement, they had barely gotten out when it was just Polythemus, Annabeth was sure if
any of his friends had been there, they wouldn't of gotten out even with Clarrise's help.

[CYCLOPES]

Who hurts you?

[ODYSSEUS, spoken]

"Aw, even though Polythemus was a bad guy, I feel bad for him," Piper said quietly, she had a
feeling that her friends might think differently.

To her surprise her friends nodded, "It would be horrible to have your family turn against you
like that."

Annabeth shuffled uncomfortably.

"What is Athena doing? He needs to get out of there!" Thalia exclaimed.

"Of course Percy switches up the second Odysseus disrespects a god," Nico shook his head.

When mercy is a skill more of this world could learn to use

"Polities may be dead but his beliefs live on in Odysseus," Hazel pointed out, speaking for
the first time since Polties' was killed in front of them.

Everyone didn't know what to say, the silence in the room was uncomfortable. They
nervously waited for the next song.

When the music started, Annabeth immediately identified it as one of her mother's songs,
recognising Athena's piano motif. Annabeth was proven correct as Athena appeared on the
screen. "Boooooo! It's an Athena song!" Percy booed at the screen.

Leo chuckled, he appreciated Percy's similar sense of humour, it amazes him how Leo had
once hated Percy despite them being so familiar.

[ATHENA]

You were reckless, sentimental at best

"I mean..." Reyna bit her tongue.

Piper nodded, "He gave the Cyclops his name, that's just... Dumb."

That's not a teaching of mine

You've grown soft, your dead friends can attest

"That's way too far!" Thalia exclaimed, her blood boiling. If anyone, even a goddess said that
to her, she wouldn't have taken it well.

Annabeth nodded, she didn't want to disagree with her mother but if somebody said
something like that about her falling friends, she wouldn't have listened to anything they told
her. She tilted her head to the side, trying to understand what Athena's strategy could possibly
be, there was no way that Athena thought Odysseus would listen to her after saying
something like that.

[ODYSSEUS]

"How is he supposed to put his emotions aside? His friends just died!" Frank shook his head.

You're a warrior meant to lead the rest

I don't know where I went wrong

But I warned ya', and you failed the test

"Oh my gods," Hazel gasped.

The demigods in the room were speechless, gone? How is he meant to get home now?! Nico
shook his head, he knew that was a lot more death about to come because of this decision.

Leo chuckled, "I know this is serious but... I can't be the only one who thinks this song
sounds like a breakup song."
"What?!" Annabeth screeched. Her mind quickly remembering the last 30 seconds on the
song. "Ewww! No, Leo— Just ew."

"Ha! It does, doesn't it?"

"No comment."

Annabeth couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu, she remembered how her mother had once
threatened to disown her, her disappointment. Annabeth had to walk through literal hell to
make her mother proud. She hated to admit it but sometimes Annabeth wondered if it would
be better if Athena hadn't claimed her at all.

[ODYSSEUS]

"OH MY DAM!" Percy perked out of his chair, "I'm sorry Annie, I think I'm in love." Percy
grinned as he looked at his girlfriend, he expected her to lovingly roll her eyes or shake her

Annabeth had completely forgotten about her knowledge of Odysseus. Uneasiness and
displeasure hung in her and the others' stomachs. How is Odysseus going to manage without
Athena's help?

The demigods didn't know much about Odysseus but from what little they could remember
(plus years of their own experience) they highly doubted it but none of them said anything.

ironic now that he thinks about it.

Eurylochus than nobody would of died, they could of easily overpowered Polythemus."

"But they wouldn't have found the cave yet," Frank counted, "If they went with Eurylochus'
plan then they would have killed all of the lotus eaters and have eaten the lotus."

Annabeth frowned, thinking about what she would do if she was in Odysseus' situation.

"Didn't Odysseus just piss off a goddess?" Leo asked.

Percy sighed, "Yep."

phone and googled his age, "He's around 30 here, why?" (This is a guess, I honestly don't

Alyx stared at Nico, her eyes blank, she turned around, "I'm never googling anything for
these guys again, what a waste of time," she muttered.

"I know, I know, but I just realised something— can you go back to Eurylochus' first line?"

purposely letting the crew hear his complaints," Annabeth grinned at her discovery, smirking
proudly as she looked at the shock expression on Alyx's face.

"Good job Wisegirl," Percy grinned as he plants a kiss on Annabeth's forehead.

of him yet.

same powers to kill Odysseus' men terrified him.

Reyna frowned, she couldn't imagine the guilt Odysseus was feeling, she's had people die
under her command before but no where near that number.

Leo felt bad for Odysseus, the guy can't catch a break. While yes, he abandoned Calypso and
left her alone for 3000 years, a part of Leo began to forgive him for it. He just wanted to go
home to his wife and son, Odysseus was a better parent/partner than most of the other Greek
heroes and Gods.

[POSEIDON]

"Way to brag," Thalia rolled her eyes.

mission and seeing his mum, an extra situation Percy had been in. He grabbed Annabeth’s
hand, she squeezed it tightly saying it’s okay.

Odysseus, when you come home I'll be waiting

Percy thought about all the times he’s left Sally waiting for him, about how for nine months,
she didn’t know where he was and he didn’t remember her. Every summer she let him go to
camp knowing that he might not return home. He wondered how many endless nights she
spent up, counting the minutes he was away.

Percy remembered the time that everyone thought he was dead for two weeks, had Annabeth
told Sally? Or did Grover? How did Sally react?

Suddenly Frank sniffled causing Hazel’s attention to turn to him, “Frank?” She asked.

Frank cried, thinking about his mother, how she died in the line of duty, a soldier who died in
Afghanistan, she told him that no matter how far she traveled, she would always come back
and she did, in a box.

Next he thought about his grandmother, true they never saw eye to eye but she was all he had
and she’s gone, all because of him. He traveled too far and when he finally returned home,
she died in a fire caused because of him. “I miss my mum,” he whispered to Hazel.

Hazel frowned, thinking of her own mother, was she still in the fields of Asphodel or maybe
perhaps she decided to be reborn, “Me too,” she hugged him.

How did suffering become so endless?

How am I to reunite with my estranged?

"Holy shit, this is a full blown reinvention song!"

Percy frowned, feeling for him. He's had the lives of his friends and family and his hands too
many times before, Percy got to a point where he had began to wonder if he was a curse to
his love ones, especially since so many of them have died.

What if I'm the monster?

 What if I'm in the wrong?

What if I'm the problem that's been hiding all along?

Leo shook his head, despite his jokes and jabs at Odysseus, Leo didn't hate the hero, in fact
he had began to respect his ability to lead when it seems hopeless. "If it wasn't for Odysseus,
his crew would have died a long time ago."

Reyna agreed, "Earlier Eurylochus wanted to invade the Island, he probably would have lead
his crew to eat the Lotus!"

"Yes!" Annabeth exclaimed, "And he also was willing to leave them all with Circe AND
Eurylochus probably would have lead them all to drown during the storm!"

Percy once again felt himself relating to Odysseus, remembering his time in Tartarus, had he
became a monster when he tried to drown Nyx? Or was he just defending himself and
Annabeth, even if a small part of him enjoyed making the goddess suffer?

Is the cyclops struck with guilt when he kills?

Is he up in the middle of the night?

Or does he end my men to avenge his friend

And then sleep knowing he has done him right?

"Aw the sheep," Hazel smiled as she saw Polythemus patting his sheep.
 When the witch turns men to pigs to protect her nymphs

"Yeah, Annabeth we know," Nico frowned, not understanding why she was making sure a big
deal about it.

"But that's literally what my mother was telling Odysseus this whole time! My mother told
him to kill Polythemus and put his guilt aside but now that he's lost everything and Poseidon
told him the same thing, he's listening!"

Nico shrugged, "I guess Poseidon's message was just louder."

[SOLDIERS]

"WHAT?!" Will yelled as he jumped out of his chair, he looked at Nico, demanding that his
boyfriend explains.

Nico grabbed Will's hand, "It's a long story."

"He killed a baby?!" Will asked, staring at Nico in disbelief.

"Will, there was a prophecy, the baby was the son of Prince Hector, he was going to grow up
and kill Odysseus and his family, he had no choice," Annabeth explained, Will sighed as he
listened to what she said, he was still disgusted but it had happened in the past, there was
nothing he could do about it.
"Do I have to keep watching this?"

Nico frowned, "Alyx won't let us leave until it's over."

[ODYSSEUS, ALL]

Then I'll become the monster

Annabeth gasped, that was animated so beautifully, Odysseus shaking hands with the
'monster' vision of him as he accepted the Gods cynical approach on survival.

I will deal the blow

And I'll become the monster

The group stared speechlessly as Odysseus broke down, Polties' words to him disappearing.
