NARRATIVE REPORT AS A PRACTICE TEACHER

February 5-7 – WEEK 1

This week marked the beginning of my journey as a practice teacher, filled with
meaningful experiences and valuable learning opportunities. From the orientation with the
school principal and my cooperating teacher to assisting in a major school event and
facilitating an examination, each experience helped shape my understanding of the teaching
profession.

Day 1, my week started with an official orientation. February 05, 2024 led by the
school principal at San Jose Elementary school. It was an inspiring session that emphasized
the importance of professionalism, dedication, and a positive attitude. The principal reminded
us that as teachers, we are not only responsible for delivering lessons but also for shaping
young minds and serving as role models.

During the orientation, we were introduced to important school policies, including

attendance requirements, dress code, ethical standards, and the significance of collaboration
with faculty and staff. The principal also highlighted the importance of effective classroom
management, lesson planning, and assessment strategies.

After the session, I met my cooperating teacher, who will be my mentor throughout my
deployment. They gave me a tour of the classroom and introduced me to the students I will be
teaching. We discussed daily classroom routines, teaching strategies, lesson planning, student
assessment, and classroom management techniques. My cooperating teacher’s warmth and
guidance reassured me, making me feel excited and ready to take on this new challenge.

Day 2, the Festival of Talents, held at Dimanpudso Elementary School on February 6,

2025, was one of the most exciting events of the week. The festival aimed to provide students
with a platform to showcase their skills in academic and artistic fields while fostering
confidence, creativity, and teamwork.

The event began with an inspiring opening message that emphasized the importance of
nurturing students’ talents and holistic development. The competitions were diverse, covering
different areas such as: Academic Competitions – Quiz bees, essay writing, and research
presentations. Performing Arts– Singing, dancing, and theatrical performances that celebrated
Philippine culture. Visual Arts and Innovation– Art exhibits, paintings, and creative projects
showcasing students' craftsmanship. Technology and Livelihood Skills– Culinary arts,
carpentry, and digital media competitions.

As I assisted in the event, I witnessed the passion and determination of the students.
Their enthusiasm and dedication were truly inspiring. Teachers, parents, and the community
showed strong support, reinforcing the idea that talent development is a shared responsibility.
The festival concluded with an awarding ceremony, celebrating the outstanding performances
and achievements of the participants.

Day 3, on February 7, 2025, I assisted in administering the third periodical exam for
Grade 2 Rose. My role was to help ensure a smooth and organized testing process while
observing the students’ behavior and learning styles.

The day was divided into two sessions: Morning Session: students took their ESP
(Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao) and English exams. ESP tested their understanding of values
and character development, while the English exam assessed their reading comprehension
and grammar skills. Some students were confident, while others needed encouragement to
focus and complete their tests. Afternoon Session: The Mathematics exam challenged
students with basic arithmetic and problem-solving tasks, while the MAPEH (Music, Arts,
PE, and Health) exam evaluated their knowledge of holistic well-being.

Throughout the exams, I observed different levels of preparedness among the students.
Some were focused and independent, while others needed reassurance. I made sure to provide
guidance and motivation, ensuring that they followed instructions carefully and maintained a
positive mindset.

This week was an enriching experience that set the tone for my practice teaching
journey. The orientation helped me understand my role and responsibilities, the Festival of
Talents highlighted the importance of holistic education, and assisting in the periodical exam
gave me insight into student behavior and assessment processes.

I realized that teaching goes beyond delivering lessons—it is about nurturing students,
supporting their growth, and continuously learning as an educator. While I feel a mix of
excitement and nervousness, I am eager to embrace more challenges, gain hands-on
experience, and make a meaningful impact on my students' learning journey.

REFLECTION

This week, my orientation with the principal and cooperating teacher provided a strong
foundation for my practice teaching journey. The Festival of Talents was also a great success,
showcasing students’ abilities and fostering a supportive learning environment. Additionally,
assisting in the third periodical exam allowed me to observe student behavior, learning styles,
and the importance of clear instructions in assessments. I was able to apply my organizational
skills effectively and gain a deeper understanding of classroom management.

While the week was productive, I felt that I could have been more proactive in
classroom interactions. During the exam administration, I noticed that some students needed
more individualized support, and I could have provided additional encouragement to those
who struggled. Additionally, I realized that I need to strengthen my confidence in handling
unexpected classroom situations, such as students who experience test anxiety or those who
need behavioral reminders. I also aim to refine my classroom presence and communication
skills in the coming weeks.

As I move forward in my deployment, I am excited to build more connections with my

students, refine my teaching strategies, and continue growing as a future educator.

Phrase of the week:

"A journey of learning and growth begins."

This phrase reflects the start of my practice teaching journey, where every experience
—whether big or small—contributes to my development as an educator. Each challenge and
success is an opportunity to learn and improve.
