INTRODUCTION

On-the-job Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to train

and orient students about the work and their future career. It is a type of

skill development where a worker learns how to do the work through hands-

on experience. On the Job Training is one method by which students are

exposed with different work situation designed to give students an

opportunity to experience and a chance to apply the theories and

computation that they have learned from the school. It also helps the

students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual

work setting.

OJT is very important not only to teach students regarding their

chosen career but also to show students the reality about working. The

students will be exposed to the actual work related to the course that they

are taking. It also allows those with no experience to work and to learn at

the same time. On-the-Job Training helps the trainee to learn more about

his chosen field and practice what he has learned from the school. It helps

in the building up of the trainee’s competence. Of course, when a student is

competent enough, he will be able to do things successfully and. This

training develops one’s professionalism in dealing with people. After the

training, the trainee will be able to handle situations properly and he’ll be

able to know how to socialize well with his colleagues. He will also be able

to work well with everyone and he’ll have a good teamwork. OJT also

enhances the critical thinking abilities and discipline of the student

conducting his training in a company. His ability to make sound decisions

and evaluate pertinent factors will be improved.

Having a proper On-the-Job Training helps in the preparation of

future professionals for their future jobs. What the students learned in their

On-the-Job Training, even the little things, can be applied when they are

already working. Students will be trained not only academically but socially

as well. The way they work and communicate with others will not be a

problem for them anymore. It also gives the trainee the chance to immerse

himself in his chosen field and experience and learn the skills necessary to

the industry he is interested in. Working with experienced staff, one will be

able to observe how the job is done properly.

Aside from work experience, On-the-Job Training allows the trainee

to get acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people having
different positions in the company, either high or low. The trainee will be

able to know how to adjust to other people’s personalities and attitudes.

On-the-Job Training requires effort and seriousness. A trainee should

take the OJT seriously as it can be a powerful tool for a person in preparing

for the next chapter of life as a professional. It can possibly be a source of

recommendation when they take that big lift from being students to career

professionals someday.
COMPANY PROFILE
BUREAU OF INTERNAL REVENUE

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is a revenue service for the

Philippine government, which is responsible for collecting more than half of

the total tax revenues of the government. It is an agency of the Department

of Finance and it is led by a Commissioner.

History

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) was established on August 1,

1904, during the American colonial period in the Philippines. Initially tasked

with collecting simple taxes like the cedula, tobacco, and alcohol excise

taxes, the BIR's role expanded significantly after the Philippines gained

independence in 1946.

In the post-war era, the BIR introduced new taxes, such as income tax

and the value-added tax (VAT), to broaden the tax base. Technological

advancements began in the 1970s, with early efforts to automate tax

processes.

The 1980s and 1990s brought challenges, including issues of

corruption and inefficiency, but also significant reforms like the

Comprehensive Tax Reform Program (CTRP) and the adoption of the Tax
Computerization Project (TCP). These initiatives aimed to simplify the tax

system and improve compliance.

In recent years, the BIR has continued to modernize, focusing on

digital transformation and implementing reforms like the TRAIN Law in

2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the BIR adapted quickly to provide

tax relief and maintain revenue collection.

Throughout its history, the BIR has played a vital role in the

Philippines' economic development, evolving to meet the country's changing

needs and ensuring effective tax administration.

Lumagui said the new BIR logo was created through the contributions

of both taxpayers and revenuers and symbolizes the inclusive approach of

the BIR in dealing with taxpayers.

WEEK 1

Administrative Section– this is the office where I was assigned to

conduct my On-the-Job Training. On my first day of training, I was very

excited and somewhat nervous because of the new environment and the

new people surrounding me. I didn’t have any idea of what kind of people

they are and it made me adjust myself with their personalities and attitudes.

My Training Supervisor accompanied me to my table where I will be

staying during my On-the-Job Training. During that moment, I felt that I was

really an office girl already having my own office chair and table. The first
task that my Training Supervisor asked me to do is to receive, stamp,

record, and distribute incoming letters.

Some may laugh at my first task which is receiving letters, but they do

not know that I’ve learned many things which are related in my chosen

course – Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.

My first week was really a good start and I was motivated to perform

excellently because of what I have already accomplished and because of my

Supervisor who is very accommodating and kind to me and to my co-

trainee.

WEEK 2

On the second week of my On-the-Job Training, few of that days I was

able to out early because of classes.

I embarked on a journey into the administrative section, where I

gained invaluable insights into the behind-the-scenes operations of tax

administration. From assisting in the coordination of office activities to

managing documentation and facilitating communication channels, each

day presented unique challenges and learning opportunities. Engaging with

administrative staff provided me with a firsthand understanding of the

crucial role they play in ensuring the smooth functioning of the

organization. As the week progressed, I honed my organizational and

multitasking skills, gaining a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of

administrative tasks within the context of tax administration. Looking

ahead, I am eager to continue exploring this dynamic aspect of the BIR

while contributing meaningfully to its operational efficiency.

During the fourth week we dove deep into the world of BIR

paperwork. We learned about all the different forms taxpayers need to fill

out, from income tax returns to business registration documents. The

trainers showed us how to spot common mistakes people make when filling

these forms and how to help them correct errors.

We also practiced processing paperwork efficiently. We learned tricks

for organizing large volumes of documents and how to prioritize urgent

filings. The trainers stressed the importance of accuracy and taught us

double-checking methods to catch any errors before documents are

officially filed.

Lastly, we explored the transition from paper to digital records. We

learned how to scan and properly store electronic copies of tax documents,

ensuring they're secure and easily retrievable. The trainers explained the
rules about how long we need to keep different types of records and how to

safely dispose of old documents when they're no longer needed.on-the-jo

WEEK 5

In the fifth week of my OJT, I focused on two main tasks: processing certificates of tax

exemption and was ask to help in distributing requested office supplies. But this week was

exciting since it’s my first time celebrating valentine’s day in my establishment but we didn’t

celebrate it on the exact date because Feb.14 was also ash Wednesday. We celebrate it on Feb.15

they prepare lots of food and sweet gifts for each employee and interns.

A major part of my job this week was preparing certificates of tax exemption. This

involved checking the accuracy of applications, filling out the required forms, and ensuring that

all necessary information was included before issuing the certificates. It was important to be

detail-oriented to make sure that each certificate was correct and complied with BIR regulations.
Additionally, I was responsible for distributing requested office supplies. This task

required me to keep track of supply requests, organize the supplies, and deliver them to the

appropriate departments or individuals. I made sure that everyone received their supplies in a

timely manner and kept records of the distribution to manage inventory effectively.

WEEK 6

During the sixth week of my On-the-Job Training, I was primarily involved in managing

incoming correspondence and encoding data for tax exemption certificates. I efficiently

processed letters from taxpayers, ensuring that they were accurately sorted and directed to the

appropriate departments. Additionally, I handled the encoding of information for tax exemption

certificates, inputting data into our system with attention to detail to maintain accurate records

and facilitate timely processing of requests.

This week also included a personal challenge, as I was absent for part of the week due to

attending a family day event. Prior to my absence, I ensured that all urgent tasks were completed

and communicated with my team to minimize any disruption. Upon returning, I promptly caught

up on any pending work and addressed outstanding tasks to ensure a smooth workflow. This

experience highlighted the importance of balancing work responsibilities with personal

commitments while maintaining productivity.

WEEK 7

In my seventh week of OJT my task was the same as my task in the previous week, I was

responsible for handling incoming correspondence from taxpayers. My duties included receiving,

recording, and stamping each letter to ensure proper processing. Although I was absent for one

day due to school matters, I was able to manage the workload effectively upon my return.
This week, I focused on maintaining accuracy and efficiency while processing a high

volume of mail. I improved my organizational skills by developing a systematic approach to

manage and track the correspondence. This experience highlighted the importance of careful

record-keeping in ensuring that all communications are handled promptly.

The week was productive and provided valuable insights into administrative tasks. I am

In my eighth week, I repeated the same tasks as last week, which involved handling

incoming letters from taxpayers. My job was to receive, record, and stamp each letter to make

sure they were processed correctly. I missed one day due to an important personal matter, but I

quickly caught up with the work once I returned.

This week helped me further improve my organizational skills and attention to detail.

Managing the mail effectively reinforced my understanding of how important it is to keep

accurate records. Even with the absence, I stayed productive and look forward to using these

WEEK 9

In my ninth week of On-the-Job Training, I continued handling incoming letters, but this

week was busier than usual. A lot of clients came in to request tax exemption certificates, likely
because university exams are coming up. My job involved receiving, recording, and stamping

these letters to make sure everything was processed correctly.

The increase in requests for tax exemption certificates meant I had to handle a larger

volume of work. I focused on staying organized and making sure each request was dealt with

quickly and accurately. This busy period helped me improve my ability to manage a lot of tasks

at once and keep track of important details.

Even with the extra workload, I managed to stay on top of things and get all the work

WEEK 10

In my tenth week of On-the-Job Training, I continued handling incoming correspondence

from taxpayers, with a primary focus on processing tax exemption certificates. This week was
particularly busy as we aimed to complete all tasks before the Holy Week. The volume of

requests for tax exemption certificates remained high, though slightly less than the previous

week.

Due to the approaching holiday, there was a push to finish all pending work, which

required me to manage a larger workload efficiently. I focused on accurately receiving,

recording, and stamping each letter, ensuring that all requests were processed in time. This

increase in activity provided valuable experience in handling a busy period and maintaining

In my twelfth week of On-the-Job Training at the Bureau of Internal Revenue, I continued

with my regular responsibilities of managing incoming correspondence, which included

receiving, recording, and stamping letters from taxpayers. This routine work provided consistent

practice in handling correspondence and maintaining accurate records.

However, the week began with a new task on Monday, where I was involved in checking

and distributing new office supplies to various sections. This task required careful attention to

ensure that each department received the correct supplies. It offered a valuable opportunity to

experience a different aspect of office operations and contribute to maintaining an organized and

efficient work environment.

After completing the supply distribution, I returned to my usual duties, balancing the

additional responsibilities with my regular workload. This experience helped me develop a better

In my thirteenth week of On-the-Job Training at the Bureau of Internal Revenue, I found

myself reflecting on the fact that I only have two weeks left to complete my OJT. The realization
that my training period is coming to an end is both exciting and surprising. The time has flown

This week, I continued with my regular duties, managing incoming correspondence and

handling requests efficiently. I focused on maintaining the high standards I have developed

WEEK 14

As I embarked on my final week of On-the-Job Training at the Bureau of Internal

Revenue, I was struck by how quickly the time had flown by. It felt like just yesterday that I was
starting this journey, and now, as I approached the end, I found myself reflecting on all the hard

work, long hours, and invaluable experiences I had gained. This week was a time for me to take

stock of my accomplishments and prepare for the transition from training to the next steps in my

career.

To express my gratitude to the team for their support and guidance throughout my

training, I decided to prepare some food for everyone. This small gesture was my way of saying

thank you for the mentorship, patience, and opportunities I had received. It was a meaningful

LEARNINGS

During my On-the-Job Training at the Bureau of Internal Revenue, I gained a deep

understanding of several key aspects of professional work. One of the most valuable lessons was
learning how to manage my time effectively and work efficiently. Handling a high volume of

tasks, such as processing incoming letters, managing tax exemption certificates, and dealing with

various administrative duties, required me to develop strong organizational skills. I had to

prioritize tasks, balance multiple responsibilities, and stay on top of deadlines. This experience

highlighted the importance of time management in ensuring that all tasks were completed on

schedule and to a high standard. I quickly realized that being organized and efficient was crucial,

especially during busy periods when the workload increased and every minute counted.

Another learning is paying close attention to detail. In processing documents like tax

exemption certificates, accuracy was paramount. I learned that even small errors could have

significant repercussions, which underscored the importance of thoroughness in my work. I

became accustomed to double-checking my work, verifying information, and maintaining

meticulous records to prevent mistakes. This focus on detail helped me understand that

maintaining high standards in administrative tasks is essential for smooth operations and

effective service delivery. It reinforced the idea that accuracy and attention to detail are crucial

skills in any administrative role.

Furthermore, my training emphasized the value of good communication and teamwork.

Interacting with my colleagues and supervisors provided me with insights into professional

communication and collaborative work. I learned how to convey information clearly, seek

assistance when needed, and work together towards common goals. A notable moment was

preparing a small meal to thank the team for their support and receiving a token of appreciation
from the Revenue District Officer. This experience demonstrated how expressing gratitude and

building strong professional relationships can enhance workplace morale and contribute to a

positive and supportive work environment. It taught me that effective communication and

teamwork are vital components of a successful and harmonious workplace.

These experiences during my training at the Bureau of Internal Revenue have been

incredibly formative. They have equipped me with valuable skills in time management, attention

to detail, and professional communication, all of which will be beneficial in my future career

endeavors. The lessons learned have not only prepared me for future roles but have also

deepened my understanding of what it takes to excel in a professional setting.
