Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, the River Ranching of Fish Seeds
scheme is being implemented to increase the inland fish production in the rivers of Tamil Nadu, to
improve the livelihood of inland fisherman who are dependent on riverine fishery, and to boost
production of native inland fish varieties and Indian major carp varieties (PMMSY). The
Tamirabarani, Gadana Nathi, Manimuthar, and Chittar rivers were used to collect fish breeders for
this initiative, and the Manimuthar Government Fish Seed Farm produced early fry fish seeds. At
various points along the 124 kilometre Tamirabarani river, more than 7.50 lakh fingerlings were
supplied. Nearly 1.60 lakh fingerlings of the Rohu, Mrigal, and Labeo fimbriatus (Fringe-lipped

AquaBounty's genetically modified salmon is once again in the news due to the FDA.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is undergoing an additional environmental
assessment (EA) of AquaBounty's AquAdvantage salmon as a result of a lawsuit filed by several
organisations that led to a court order requiring further investigation. A judge ruled in 2020 that the
FDA needed to do an extra examination of the salmon, the likelihood that it would be released into
the wild, and its potential damage to wild salmon populations. The FDA had previously approved
the genetically altered salmon to be sold in the US in 2015. In that decision, a judge found that the
FDA had not exercised reasonable care in evaluating potential environmental effects before
approving the sale of Aqua Advantage salmon.

In Clarivate's annual list of highly cited scholars, Dr. Eddie Allison, a renowned researcher
at World Fish, was listed among the top 0.1 percent of researchers (HCR). The number of times
other scientists cited his work in their research publications was used to determine his standing on
Clarivate's 2022 HCR list. Allison was one of 6,938 scientists from 70 different nations and regions
who significantly advanced his field by producing highly regarded works over the previous ten
years. The authors on the HCR list are prolific authors who have papers that rank in the top 1% of
citations in each field, as measured by the Web of Science index.
