4.2 PCB Layout Design Guide

4.2.1 Design Rules
The Module pinout is designed to be a gold finger, which facilitates setting up the Module on PCB main board. For
PCB and layout footprint design, please refer to the following section.

4.2.2 Recommended PCB Footprint

Unit: mm
Figure 15. The Module PCB Design Guideline
The recommended PCB thickness is 1mm. If the PCB is too thick, it will easily cause poor soldering between the gold
finger and the pad on the PCB.

4.3 Assembly Guide

4.3.1 Soldering Guide
Manual soldering is recommended to prevent damage of the module casing. The guidance of the manual solder as
follow:
1. Temperature ≈ 300 °C (Recommended 30W solder iron) with solder duration 2sec or less
2. Alternatively, temperature <260 °C with solder duration ± 10sec for volume production.
Disclaimer: The Module casing is not suitable for SMT solder IR reflow process. Do not risk the module from being
damaged or prematurely malfunction.

4.3.2 Module Assembly Guide

The Module need to be placed as well as held firmly with PCB before Soldering. However, the Module placement
need to place one sided abutment of the PCB opening slot.
Note: It is important to ensure proper alignment mentioned in order to minimize assembly error.

4.3.3 ESD Precaution

As the chip is sensitive device, an ESD awareness is required to prevent from premature damage during handling of
the chip.

not activated when the Module in power down state or reset. The SPI SCK, MOSI, and nCS (active low) is initiate by
the host.
When nCS pin is asserted, the SPI is activated. On the other hand, when nCS pin is de-asserted, the SPI is in idle
where the output (MISO) is in tri-stated and the input (MOSI and SCK) is invalid.
nCS can also be used as reset control as needed if interface error is found.

7.2 System Modes in Operation State

7.2.1 Overview
In Operation state, the Module supports two operation modes. They are STREAM mode and FOD mode.
In STREAM mode, the Module will configure to automate way to capture images and process data continuously
according to the frame period setting in Section 7.5.1.
In FOD mode, the Module will only capture single image upon receive of external trigger signal from the HOST via
G6 pin.

7.2.2 STREAM Mode

The Module will enter this mode when STREAMING is enabled by setting =1
and =1 respectively. The module will capture the image and the output data
will be stored in register bank 5, 9, A and B.

7.2.3 Frame on Demand (FOD) Mode

In FOD mode, the Module will only capture single image upon receive of external trigger signal from the Host. In
FOD mode, the frame rate is determined by the external trigger interval. The host need to configure pin G6 as
FOD_TRI for this input trigger function. However, this is different from STREAM mode where is continuously
capture and deliver the output with a fixed frame rate. The highest frame rate for this mode is 200fps.

3. The Maximum allowable sensor exposure length = frame period – 2.7ms
4. The data of Frame 0 can be read at the trigger of Frame1.

2. The brightness of IR ambient light is fixed.
3. The max brightness of LED on frame (IR LED object + IR ambient light) ≤ 255 LSB.

7.3 Register
The Host may access register through SPI interface. Refer to Section 6.1 for detail.

7.3.1 Register Address Mapping

There is two different address assignment. They are address of multiple register bank and each bank consist of 8
bits address mapping (0 to 255).

7.3.2 Registers Bank Switching

The register is design for register bank switching selection. This register is located in Non-Bank
Register. The host need to perform bank switching prior any register access. Hence, the host may change the
register value of anytime without register bank constraint. By default, register bank is configure as
Bank 0.
Note: Register is for write operation only. Read operation is invalid.

7.4 Output Access

In operation state, the Module will automatically save the output to dedicated registers. The Host may read the
output with multi-byte read command. To ensure the output data validity, the Host nCS signal assert all the time
until output delivery is complete. When host reads outputs, the Module waits for the ongoing read process to end
and then update the latest object characteristics. The Host read duration must be less than a frame time.

7.4.1 Polling Method

Upon entering operation state, the Host will waits for about a frame period before executing the next burst reads
command. The Host may read output data from second frame onwards. The detail may explain in the following
sections.
For normal application, the Host may configure to
1. Start to read after 1 frame period
2. One frame period interval for fetching output data

With frame subtraction on, the HOST may configure to

1. Start to Read after 2 frame period
2. Two frames period interval for fetching output data

7.4.2 Interrupt Method

The Host may access the Module output through Interrupt method. Refer to Section 4.1.2 to configure
G13/LED_SIDE as trigger pin. Discard first trigger signal for any purpose.
For normal application, the Host will be triggered by G13/LED_SIDE to read output data. Refer to Figure 28 and
Figure 29 for detail.
For frame subtraction on, the Host will be triggered by G13/LED_SIDE to read output data. Refer to Figure 30 for
detail. Please note that the trigger edge and level for data latching is difference from normal application.

This section is explain possible of data lost. Below is a reference of the normal data transmission for comparison
purpose.

Figure 31. Normal Data Transmission

Three possible condition may cause output data lost.

Figure 32. Possible Data Lost 1

The SPI bus is occupied by the Host for more than single frame duration. Hence, DSP is unable to update the output
data and causes object tracking error.

Figure 33. Possible Data Lost 2

The Host is busy causes unable to access data within the expected timing. Hence, the Data 2 is lost and causes
object tracking error. Single Read operation is not recommended as DSP will update the output data whenever SPI
bus is available. This is a protection mechanism to ensure the integrity of the data.

7.5.2 Exposure Time

The exposure time is defined as the amount of time needed to capture an image.

The updated flag must be set as confirmation of new exposure length setting activation.
1. In operation state, the new exposure settings will only take effect 2 frames after the update flag is set.
2. Maximum sensor exposure time is limited by frame period:

Precise (brightness threshold) and (noise threshold) settings are allow multiple objects tracking
to capture targeted bright objects. There is 3 categories of Multiple Object Tracking pixels. They are bright pixel,
ambiguous pixel, and dark pixel as explained in table below. A pixel of intensity value smaller than ( –
) is considered as dark pixel and should belong to non-object region, while a pixel of intensity value larger
than is considered as bright pixel and is part of an object. Ambiguous pixels have intermediate intensity
value and are thus label based on neighboring pixels.

For example, to track known target objects of size around 100 to 150, setting = 80 and = 170,
providing 20-pixel margin.
