MCM ACTIVITY

Directions: Create scenario that depicts each of Mintzberg's coordinating mechanisms within the
context of the Department of Education's (DepEd) basic education system

Mintzberg’s Coordinating Mechanisms Scenario

1. Mutual Adjustment In a rural school, teachers collectively adjust
their teaching methods and schedules based on
the needs of the students. For instance, if a
group of students is struggling with a particular
subject, teachers might collaborate to
rearrange class schedules or share teaching
techniques to address the issue effectively.
2. Direct Supervision At the district level, Schools District
Supervisor directly oversee the performance of
school principals and teachers in a public high
school. The Supervisor conducts regular
school visits, observe classes, and provide
immediate feedback to ensure that educational
standards are met.
3. Standardization of Work Processes All schools within the DepEd system must
follow a uniform process for student
registration, including required documents and
deadlines. Since, DepEd establishes
standardized guidelines and protocols for
administrative tasks, such as enrollment
procedures, curriculum development, and
assessment methods.
4. Standardization of Outputs All Grade 6 students are expected to achieve a
certain level of proficiency in mathematics as
outlined in the standardized MATATAG
curriculum. By defining clear expectations for
student outcomes, DepEd ensures consistency
in the quality of education provided across
diverse educational settings.
5. Standardization of Skills All new teachers are required to undergo a
standardized orientation program covering
topics such as classroom management
techniques, effective teaching strategies, and
child psychology. As DepEd offers
standardized training programs and
professional development opportunities for
teachers to enhance their pedagogical skills
and subject knowledge.
