GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. All questions would be compulsory. However, an internal choice of approximately 33% would be provided. 50% marks
are to be allotted to competency-based questions.
2. Section A would have 16 simple/complex MCQs and 04 Assertion-Reasoning type questions carrying 1 mark each.
3. Section B would have 6 Short Answer (SA) type questions carrying 02 marks each.
4. Section C would have 7 Short Answer (SA) type questions carrying 03 marks each.
5. Section D would have 3 Long Answer (LA) type questions carrying 05 marks each.
6. Section E would have 3 source based/case based/passage based/integrated units of assessment (04 marks each) with
sub-parts of the values of 1/2/3 marks.

Section-A
Question 1 to 16 are multiple choice questions. Only one of the choices is correct. Select and write the
correct choice as well as the answer to these questions.

Question No. 27 to 33 are short answer questions
27. (i) Carbonate of metal 'X' is abundant in earth crust and its hydroxide is used in 'white washing.
Identify metal 'X'.
(ii) How will you convert this carbonate into its oxide? Name the process and write its equation.
28. A compound P forms the enamel of teeth. It is the hardest substance of the body. It doesn't dissolve
in water but gets corroded when the pH is lowered below 5.5.
(a) Identify the compound P.
(b) How does it undergo damage due to eating chocolate and sweets? What should we do to prevent
tooth decay?
29. (a) List in tabular form two differentiating features between xylem and phloem.
(b) Write two advantages of transpiration in plants.

30. A cross was made between green-stemmed tomato plants denoted by (GG) and purple-stemmed

(b) Give the percentage of purple-stemmed plants if F₁ plants are allowed to self-pollinate to

approximately 3 m from him. Name the defect of vision the boy is suffering from. State the possible
causes of this defect and explain the method of correcting it.

(b) Calculate the effective resistance between A and B in the circuit given below:

33. (a) State three factors on which the strength of magnetic field produced by a current carrying
solenoid depends.
(b) Draw circuit diagram of a solenoid to prepare an electromagnet.

Section-D
Question No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions.
Attempt either option A or B.
34. A carbon compound 'P' on heating with excess conc. H2SO4 forms another carbon compound 'Q'
which on addition of hydrogen in the presence of nickel catalyst forms a saturated carbon compound
'R'. One molecule of 'R' on combustion forms two molecules of carbon dioxide and three molecules
of water. Identify P, Q and R and write chemical equations for the reactions involved.
OR
(a) A compound 'X' undergoes addition reaction with H2 to form a compound 'Y' having molecular
mass 30 g mol-¹. 'X' decolorises bromine water and burns with a smoky flame. Identify 'X' and 'Y'
and write chemical equations of the reactions involved.
(b) Write the structural formulae of (i) Butanone, and (ii) Pentanoic acid.
(c) Would you be able to check if water is hard by using a detergent ? Give reason to justify your
answer.

35. Based on the given diagram answer the questions given below:

(a) Label the parts A, B, C and D.


(b) Name the hormone secreted by testis and mention its role.
(c) State the functions of B and C in the process of reproduction.

(a) In the female reproductive system of human beings, state the functions of:

36. (i) How is electric current related to the potential difference across the terminals of a conductor?
Draw the labelled circuit diagram to verify this relationship.
(ii) Why should an ammeter have low resistance?
(iii) Two V-I graphs A and B for series and parallel combinations of two resistors are as shown.
Giving reason state which graph shows (a) series, (b) parallel combination of the resistors.

OR
A fuse wire melts at 5 A. If it is desired that the fuse wire of same material melt at 10 A, then
whether the new fuse wire should be of smaller or larger radius than the earlier one? Give reasons
for your answer.

Section – E
Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions.

37. The teacher while conducting practicals in the laboratory divided the students into three groups and
gave them various solutions to find out their pH and classify them into acidic, basic and neutral
solutions. Group A Lemon juice, vinegar, colourless aerated drink. Group B - Tomato juice, coffee,
ginger juice. Group C - Sodium hydroxide, sodium chloride, lime water. Read the above passage
carefully and give the answer of the following questions:
Q1. For the solutions provided, which group is/ are likely to have pH value
(i) less than , (ii) greater than 7?
Q2. List two ways of determining pH of a solution.
Q3. Explain, why the sour substances such as lemon juice are effective in cleaning the tarnished
copper vessels?
Or
"pH has great importance in our daily life." Justify this statement by giving two examples.
38. Study the figure related to human brain and answer the questions that follow.

Q2. What is the function of the fluid filled in the brain?

39. Ravi wanted to fix the rear-view mirror of his scooter. He knows that rear-view mirror is an
essential safety device in the vehicle and allows him to see objects at the backside of his vehicle. He
bought two mirrors M, and M2, out of which M₁ is curved inwards and M2 is curved outwards.

Read the above passage carefully and give the answer of the following questions:

Q1. Based on the given situation, which mirror should Ravi need to fix as his rear-view mirror and
why?
Q2. Ravi did some preliminary experiment with mirror M₁ and found that magnification of the real
image of an object placed at 10 cm in front of it is 3, at what distance is the image located?
Q3. What is the formula for magnification obtained with a mirror?
OR
An object is placed at the centre of curvature of M₁. Find the distance between its image and
pole.
