1.

1 INT. LUCAS'S BEDROOM-DAY 1

An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the


background. A dark screen fades into a overhead shot of
LUCAS, 17, sleeping with Buc-ee's pajamas. An alarm clock
goes off. The rhythm speeds up as Lucas jerks awake. Lucas
turns the alarm clock off and breathes. The rhythm slows down
to its original pacing.

2 INT. LUCAS’S KITCHEN-DAY 2


An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the
background. Lucas grabs a bowl from the kitchen cabinet. He
goes to the pantry to grab a cereal box. Lucas pours some
cereal into the bowl. He gets milk from the refrigerator. He
pours the milk into the cereal bowl. He chews in silence. A
caller rings on his phone. The rhythm speeds up. Lucas gets
his phone and opens it. Spam risk likely. Rhythm slows to
original speed. He hangs up.

3 INT. CAR-MOVING-DAY 3
An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the
background. Lucas is driving his car to school. He plays some
music. He shakes his head back in forth. The music drowns the
rhythm out. He's enjoying himself. A ball gets thrown out in
front of the car. The rhythm speeds up dramatically and fades
in louder and the music fades into the background. Lucas
freaks out and smashes the brakes. A man walks into the
street and grabs the ball. He waves at Lucas. Lucas
acknowledges. Lucas breathes. The rhythm slows down. The
music fades back in. Lucas drives.

4 EXT. OUTSIDE OF CAR-OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL-DAY 4


An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the
background. Students are walking into school. Some are joking
and playing around. Some are chatting with each other. Lucas
watches for a minute, takes a breathe, then gets out the car.
The rhythm speeds up slightly. He walks to the school
entrance. The rhythm speeds up as he walks. IVAN, Lucas's
best friend, 17, the opposite of Lucas in every way, rushes
to Lucas and lightly knocks into Lucas. The rhythm stops.
IVAN
Hey, did you here about Ezra?
LUCAS
What about him?
IVAN

He broke up with his girlfriend.


LUCAS
So what does that mean?
IVAN
So that means he's free. You should
finally ask him out.

LUCAS
It's not gonna happen.
IVAN
Not if you don't try.
Rhythm starts again speeding up and then it stops. Fade to
black.

5 INT. SCHOOL CLASSROOM-CONTINUOUS-DAY 5


An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the
background. An anatomy classroom. Lucas sits next to EZRA,
17, a short king.
LUCAS
Hey. I heard. How are you?
EZRA
I'm fine. It doesn't really matter.
LUCAS
Really? You two had been together
for years.

EZRA
It was time. Plus I like someone
else now.

LUCAS
Really? Who is she?
EZRA
How do you know it's a she?

The rhythm skips a beat. Lucas internally screams.

6 INT. LUCAS’S BEDROOM-NIGHT 6


An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the
background. Lucas lays in bed with his phone. He scrolls onto
instagram and opens Ezra's profile. He scrolls through Ezra's
profile. He clicks on Ezra's story afterwards.

CAN'T LEAVE US!
LUCAS (TEXT)
You like Hadestown?
The message is seen as read. The rhythm speeds up. A typing
bubble appears. The rhythm speeds up. It disappears. It
appears again. The rhythm speeds up.
EZRA (TEXT)
I love the show!

The rhythm relaxes to the normal speed.


EZRA (TEXT)
I've seen it twice. One with Reeve
Carney and one with Jordan Fisher.
LUCA (TEXT)
That's so cool! Which one was
better?
EZRA (TEXT)
Jordan Fisher! He's so hot.

The rhythm speeds up


LUCAS (TEXT)
I thought you were straight
EZRA (TEXT)
Well you're wrong

LUCAS (TEXT)
I don't know you that well 😭😭😭
The rhythm slows down. Lucas puts his phone down on his chest
and stares up at the ceiling with a smile. His phone beeps.
The rhythm speeds up. Lucas's hand instantaneously leaps to
grab the phone and looks at it.

EZRA (TEXT)
Well maybe we should hangout
sometime:)

The rhythm speeds up.

7 INT. LUCAS’S KITCHEN-DAY 7

Lucas and Ivan are having a snack.

IVAN
Have you ever seen Moonrise
Kingdom?
LUCAS
No.

IVAN
We have to watch it! It's coming
back to theaters.
LUCAS
What's it about?
IVAN
It's about these two children that
runaway from home and live together
as a couple.
LUCAS
That sounds cute. When is it
showing?

IVAN
Saturday.

LUCAS
That sounds great! Oh wait-

An iambic pentamer rhythm starts beating.

LUCAS
I'm seeing that with Ezra.

IVAN
You've been spending a lot of time
with Ezra. What's going on?

LUCAS
Nothing.

IVAN
Yeah right. Have fun on your date!

The rhythm speeds up.

8 EXT. OUTSIDE MOVIE THEATER-NIGHT 8

An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the


background. Lucas waits. He pulls his phone out to text Ezra.
As he's looking at the screen Ezra walks up to Lucas and taps
his shoulder. The rhythm speeds up.

EZRA
Hey. How are you?

LUCAS
(flustered)
Good.

EZRA
You ready to go in?
LUCAS
I was waiting for you.

They move to the door and Ezra gestures for Lucas to go


first. The rhythm speeds up.

9 INT. MOVIE THEATER-CONTINUOUS 9

An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually in the


background. Moonrise Kingdom is heard and the screen's
reflections are shown on Lucas and Ezra's faces.

10 INT. MOVIE THEATER-CONTINUOUS-CUE MONTAGE 10


The two boys reactions are shown to the movie's scenes. The
rhythm speeds up each time.

-The scissor stab


-The cabin explosion

-The child struck by lightning

-The dog dies

-Lucas runs out of the theater

11 INT. OUTSIDE MOVIE THEATER-CONTINUOUS 11

An iambic pentameter rhythm plays perpetually. It is


heightened and increasingly speeding. Lucas runs outside the
movie theater. He presses his back against the wall and
breathes heavily. The rhythm grows louder and faster until it
switches to a trochaic meter rhythm. We change camera angle
to see Lucas's perspective. Vision goes blurry and refracts
into pieces. From his perspective he somewhat sees Ezra
walking towards him but he's shrouded. The rhythm speeds up
increasingly until Ezra gets perfectly entirely into frame.
EZRA

Hey. Lucas breathe. What are five


things you can see?

The camera shakes with Lucas's breathing. Through Lucas's


eyes we see Ezra's face, the street, a stop sign, and a
trashcan highlighted in his vision like targets. The rhythm
slows down.

EZRA
What are four thing that you can
hear?

The bristles of the wind, Ezra's breathing, a dog barking in


the distance, and the siren of a police car pulsate sound
waves through the world that Lucas's vision picks out. The
rhythm switches back to a speeding iambic pentameter.

EZRA
What are three things you can
smell?

Smoke wafts in, Ezra's cologne, and garbage from the trash
can make themselves distinct in Lucas's tunnel vision. The
rhythm slows down.

EZRA
What are two things you can taste?

The smoke causes Lucas to cough and then he tastes the


sweetness of the leftover movie food. The rhythm slows down.

EZRA
What are one thing you can touch?

Ezra grabs Lucas's hands and the camera goes down capturing
this moment of intimacy.

LUCAS
You.

The rhythm returns back to normal. The camera looks back at


Ezra and he smiles. Fade to black. The rhythm stops. The end.
