A. Discuss the three perspectives on global cultural flows and be able to cite an example for
each.
Cultural divergence, cultural hybridization, and cultural convergence are the three perspectives
on global cultural flows. The first, cultural differentialism, emphasizes that cultures are very
different from one another and that global flows only have an indirect impact on them. The
differences between American and Japanese cultures are one example of this. The second is
cultural hybridization, which suggests the creation of unique blends as a result of the blending
of global and local cultures, while cultural convergence emphasizes that cultures are becoming
more similar. I think the best example for this is the Hip-hop music which is a good illustration of
how both Latino and African American cultures have affected it. Lastly, the Cultural
Convergence, which includes but is not limited to similarities in beliefs, consumer brands, and
media, occurs when cultures are influenced by many of the same global flows and tend to
become more similar. The way in which American and British cultures have merged in terms of
language and popular culture is one example of this.
B. Explain in your own words the following.
1. Catastrophic collision in globalization
In my own words, I think catastrophic collision in globalization is the difference of the two
cultures that is like glued together but did not deeply affect each other.
2. Cultural imperialism
Cultural Imperialism is like the Cultural Hybridization. Cultural Imperialism for me is like tear
down other parts of another culture and replace it or put its own practices, norms, or values on
the destroyed culture.
3. Sinic civilization
Sinic civilization is the sharing or interaction of related cultures of china among chinese
communities in Southeast-Asia like china, hongkong, taiwan, singapore, korea and vietnam.
4. Deterritorialization with example
Deterritorialization is a process where a territory or a country has its organization and
environment or conditions around them is altered or destroyed. An example of it is, when the
America colonized the Philippines, the education was greatly influenced. The students in the
Philippines were given free school materials and the three levels of education was also
introduced which is the Elementary, Secondary and College or Tertiary level.
C. Look for a table that shows the distribution of religious practices all over the world with
corresponding number of adherents and percentages.

Population Growth Projections, 2010–2050 by Pew Research Center

In this data, you can see that there are four religions that influenced majority of the country in
the world (86.68%) the Christianity, Islam, Nonreligious, And Hinduism. Christianity has the
highest adherents which is 2.382 billion all over the world with 31.0% followed by Islam with
1.907 billion adherents and 24.9%, Nonreligious with 1.193 billion adherents and 15.58%, and
Hinduism with 1.161 billion adherents and 15.2% with the total of 86.68%. After Hinduism, it
was followed by Buddhism, Chinese traditional region, Ethnic religions, and African traditional
religions which has a total of 16.4%. After the last-mentioned religion, there are 13 more
religions that is uncommon to other people and covers the remaining percentage of the world’s
number of adherents which is 1.637%. This percentage concludes the total of 100% adherents
of these religions around the world.
D. Do the following:
a. List down vertically in bulleted form the existing religions in the Philippines. List them
according to the size of the population (from most down to the least number).
 Roman Catholic (85,645,362)
 Other Religious Affiliations (8,954,291)
 Islam (6,981,710)
 Iglesia ni Cristo (2,806,524)
 Philippine Independent Church (1,458,992)
 Seventh-day Adventist (862,725)
 Bible Baptist Church (540,364)
 United Church of Christ in the Philippines (470,792)
 Jehovah’s Witnesses (457,245)
 Church of Christ (429,921)
 None (43,931)
 Not Reported (15,186)
b. Answer the questions below:
 How do the religions in the Philippines differ?
Roman Catholicism no longer has the control on social and even political life in the
Philippines, which is quickly evolving into a religiously diverse society. In various
societies, religion has developed in a variety of ways. Religions differ in how much they
prioritize practice and belief. While some religions place the greatest emphasis on the
individual's subjective experience, while others consider the activities of the religious
community to be most important.
 What do these religions have in common?
Rituals, or unique patterns of behavior, are frequently practiced by adherents of various
religions. The concepts of sacrifice, charitable deeds, hospitality, peace, justice, worship,
an afterlife, and loving God with all of one's heart and soul are also remarkably similar,
but the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you is what unites
all religions. which means you should treat others with the same consideration and
kindness that you would like them to have for you.
