Tutorial 3- Projection of Lines
Tutorial 3- Projection of Lines
4. Line AB has its ends A 10 mm from VP and 20 mm from HP. Point B is 55 mm from VP and 50 mm
from HP. Distance between end projectors is 50 mm. Draw the front view, top view and L.H. side
view of the line assuming the line to be in the third quadrant.
5. Point A of line AB is 25 mm above HP and 20 mm in front of VP. Front view is inclined at 300 to XY
line and measures 65 mm. Point B is in the third quadrant. Plan of the line is 450 to the XY line. Draw
the FV and TV of the line.
6. Midpoint of the projections of the line is in HP and VP. Distance between the projectors is 70 mm.
The line is in two quadrants. FV and TV measure 100 mm and 120 mm respectively. Draw FV and
TV of the line.
7. End point A of line AB is in horizontal plane (HP) and 40 mm from vertical plane (VP). End B is 60
mm from HP and 40 mm from VP. Distance between the end projectors as measured parallel to XY
line is 70 mm. Draw elevation, plan and right hand side profile view in first quadrant.
8. There are two poles with different heights as shown in Figure 1. The different dimensions of the poles
with respect to the vertical and horizontal planes are also given in Figure 1. The poles are
perpendicular to HP and the points P and Q are connected with a wire. The shortest distance of point
P from the XY line is 50 mm. Find (i) distance of point Q from VP. (ii) height of the shorter pole
(through P). (iii) length of elevation/front view of line PQ.
(The poles and the wire may be treated as lines for the projections).

11. Two poles (AP & BP) are grounded in such a way so that their top ends meet at a point P and bottom
ends A & B are separated by 3 m apart from each other. The bottom ends of Poles, i.e. A and B are at
3 m and 1 m from the back wall respectively. Assume a left-hand side wall at a perpendicular distance
of 3 m from the nearest bottom end A on ground. If the length of elevation of Pole AP is 2.5 m, and
the top view of Point P lies exactly at mid-point on line joining the top view of bottom ends A & B.
Draw FV, TV and RHSV and determine the length of elevation of the pole BP. Assume both the poles
as lines placed in the first quadrant, the back wall as Vertical plane, ground as horizontal plane and
the left side wall as profile plane for drawing the respective projections. Take scale 1m = 50mm.
