SUMMER HOLIDAY HOME WORK
(2024-25)
NOTE: Do holiday home work in a separate copy or loose sheets.
Chapter 3 ( Linear Equations in two
Variables) 1. Solve y – 4x = 1; 6x – 5y
= 9.
2. Solve 2x = 5 y + 4 ; 3x – 2y +16 = 0.
3. In a two digit number the digit in the unit place is twice of
the digit in the tens place. If the digits are interchanged, the
new number formed is 27 more than the given number. Find
the number.
4. The area of a rectangle reduced by 160 m2 if its length is
increased by 5m and breadth is reduced by 4m. However,if
length is decreased by 10m and breadth is increased by
2m, then the area is decreased by 100 m2 , find the
dimensions of the rectangle.
5. At a certain time in a zoo, the number of heads and the
number of legs of tiger and peacocks were counted and it
was found that there were 47 heads and 15l legs. Find the
number of tigers and peacocks in the zoo.
6. Find k if 6x + 2y = 3 and k x + y = 2 has unique solution.
7. Determine the value of m and n so that the following pair
of linear equations have infinite number of solutions:
(2m – 1)x + 3y = 5 ; 3x + (n – 1)y = 2
8. For what value of k will the pair of equations have no
solution: 3x + y = 1 ; (2k – 1) x + (k – 1)y =2k + 1
Chapter 4 ( Quadratic Equations)
1. If x = 2 and x = - 3 are the roots of ax2 + 7x + b =0 find the
3
values of a
and b.
2. If -5 is a root of 2x2 + p x -15 =0 and p(x2 + x) + k = 0 has
equal roots. Find k.
3. A two digit number is four times the sum of the digits. It is
also equal to three times the product of the digits. Find the
number.
4. Solve for x ; √3 x2 -2√2 x -2√3 = 0
5. If the roots of (a – b) x2 + (b - c) x + (c – a) = 0 are equal.
Prove that 2a = b + c
1 2 1
, x ≠ 0, 3
𝑥 2𝑥−3 𝑥−2 2
6. Solve for x ; + = ,2.
7. Find the positive value (s) of k for which x2 – 8x + k
= 0 and x2 + k x + 64 = 0 both will have real roots.
8. The denominator of a fraction is one more than twice its
16
numerator. If the sum of fraction and its reciprocal is 2 ,
21
find the fraction.
9. If p x2 - 2√5 px + 15 = 0 has two equal roots, then find the
value of p.
ACTIVITIES
1. Draw the graphs of x + 2y = 5 and 2x – 3y = -4.
Also find the co-ordinates where the line meets the x- axis.
Find the area of the triangle formed by these lines and x-
axis.
2. Draw 3 activities from pair of linear equation in two
variables (i) unique solution (ii) infinite solutions (iii) no
solutions
3. Do any two activities from Arithmetic Progression.
