Question 2: you are given a task as the network administrator, to design an IP plan using the
VLSM method to distribute 430 IP addresses to subnets within a network.
Instructions:
1) determine the number of subnets that you think would meet the requirement of 430
2) use your discretion and assign each subnets its share of hosts with an IP address of
192.168.1.0/24

a) create a table for the subnet ID, subnet mask, host, allowable hosts and network and fill
with necessary information.

Subnet ID Subnet mask Host Allowable Broadcast ID Network

Host
192.168.1.0 /24 256 254 192.168.1.255 Network 1: host 200
192.168.2.0 /25 128 126 192.168.2.127 Network 2: host 122
192.168.2.128 /26 64 62 192.168.2.191 Network 3: host 60
192.168.2.192 /27 32 30 192.168.2.223 Network 4: host 30
192.168.2.224 /28 16 14 192.168.2.239 Network 5: host 12
192.168.2.240 /29 8 6 192.168.2.247 Network 6: host 4
192.168.2.248 /30 4 2 192.168.2.251 Network 7: host 2
Total host 430 host

b) What are the subnet ID and broadcast ID for each subnet?

Network Subnet ID Broadcast ID
1 192.168.1.0 192.168.1.255
2 192.168.2.0 192.168.2.127
3 192.168.2.128 192.168.2.191
4 192.168.2.192 192.168.2.223
5 192.168.2.224 192.168.2.239
6 192.168.2.240 192.168.2.247

Question 3:
i. Using a valid IP address, of 192.168.8.0/24 determine the IP address of subnet X and
subnet Y respectively, from the options given.

➢ C: X = 192.168.8.128/26 and Y = 192.168.8.224/27 is the answer

ii. What is the maximum number of hosts that can be assign to subnet X?

➢ The maximum number of hosts which can be assigned to X is 64 but the usable range
is 62 because 2 subnets are reserved for network and broadcast ID.

iii. what are the subnet ID and broadcast ID for subnet x?

➢ subnet ID: 192.168.8.128/26

➢ broadcast ID: 192.168.8.191

iv. what is the maximum number of hosts that can be assigned to subnet Y?

➢ the maximum number of hosts which can assigned to subnet Y is 32

vi. what are the subnet ID and broadcast ID for subnet Y?

➢ subnet ID: 192.168.8.224/27

➢ Broadcast ID: 192.168.8.255
