Assignment 3

QUESTION 1:
a) How many different networks are shown in the network topology shown above?
✓ As per the subnet in the table below as well as from the network topology above there are
five networks in this topology.

b) Assign network numbers to each of the identified networks in (a) above.

c) Configure all the computers and routers so that all the computers in all networks can talk t each
other. Configure the IP numbers, subnet masks, gateways, interfaces, routing information,
network numbers etc.

➢ Here the IP addresses were randomly selected to create space to work more freely as long as it
doesn’t go beyond the domain or it doesn’t exceed the host requirements.

Question 2:
Define the following terms as used in communications
d) Data Rate:
✓ The amount of data transmitted per unit of time, usually measured in bits per second. In
simpler terms, data rate represents how fast data packets travel from one point to another in a
digital system.

e) Baud rate:
✓ In the context of electronic communication, attenuation refers to the gradual reduction in the
strength or amplitude of a signal as it travels through a transmission medium, such as a cable,
fibre optic line, or even through the air. This weakening of the signal can be caused by various
factors, including resistance, interference, and the physical properties of the transmission
medium.

f) Intermodulation noise:
✓ Intermodulation noise occurs when two or more signals pass through a non-linear device,
causing the creation of additional unwanted signals at frequencies that are combinations of the
original frequencies. These unwanted signals, known as intermodulation products, can
interfere with the desired signal, leading to noise and distortion in the communication system

g) Cross talk:
✓ Crosstalk in electronics and communication refers to the unwanted transfer of signals between
communication channels. This phenomenon occurs when a signal transmitted on one circuit
or channel creates an undesired effect in another circuit or channel
