Grade 9 Diagnostic Test (Intermediate Level)

Section 1: Writing (15 points)

Instructions: Write a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) on ONE of the following


topics.

1. What is your favorite food, and why?

2. What is one thing you would change about your school, and why?

Scoring Criteria:

 Clarity and organization (5 points)


 Grammar and sentence structure (5 points)
 Vocabulary and punctuation (5 points
Section 2: Reading Comprehension (20 points)

Instructions: Read the passage and answer the questions.

Passage:
"Emma always dreamed of being a writer. She spent hours reading books and
creating stories in her notebook. One day, she entered a writing contest. She was
nervous, but she submitted her best work. Weeks later, she received an email—she
had won! She realized that taking risks and believing in herself was the key to
success."

1. What is Emma’s dream? (2 points)

2. How did she work towards her dream? (3 points)

3. What happened after she entered the contest? (3 points)

4. What lesson did Emma learn? (4 points)
