CLASS VI- Light, Shadows And Reflection-notes
ISAM/FR/MDL/NS/04
Ans: Luminous objects: Objects that give out or emit light of their own e.g sun, torch, bulb
etc.
Non-Luminous Objects: Objects that do not give out light of their own e.g moon, chair,
book, etc
Q.2 What are -a. Transparent Objects b. Translucent Objects c. Opaque Objects
Ans: Transparent Objects: Objects which allow light rays to pass through them completely
are called transparent objects. We can see clearly through transparent objects. e.g clear glass,
clean water
Translucent Objects: Objects which allow only a part of the light rays to pass
through them are called translucent objects. e.g wax, frosted glass
Opaque Objects: Objects which do not allow light to pass through them are called
Opaque objects. e.g wood, stone
Q.3 What is rectilinear propagation of light? Explain with the help of an example.
Ans: The property of light travelling in a straight line is called rectilinear propagation of light
e.g the formation of shadow by a source of light suggests that light travels in straight line.
Ans: When a ray of light falls on a smooth and well-polished surface, the whole of light is
sent back in the same medium. This is called reflection.
Q.5 What is a pin hole camera? List the characteristics of image formed by a pinhole camera.
Ans: A pin hole camera is a simple device used to see the images of various objects. The
image in a pin hole camera has the following characteristics:
a. Image is inverted.
b. Image is real.
d. Image in a pinhole camera can be smaller than the object, equal to the object or bigger
than the object.
2. Image is seen when light coming from No light enters the eye from
an object after reflection enters the eye the shadow of the object.
3. Image gives information about colour, Shadow gives idea only about
Ans: A pinhole camera is the simplest kind of camera which does not have a lens. It makes
use of a pin hole to focus all the light rays within the smallest possible area to obtain an
image as clear as possible. It works on the principle that light travels in a straight line.
