Automation Studio Experiments

1. To learn the use of SFC through an example- controlling parking gate movement.
2. Design a circuit to control motor direction by using interlocking and NC switch safety for a 3-phase induction motor.
3. Design a control circuit to activate two lamps that are latched by using two different member inputs & that are not
interlocked. Activation of any of the two inputs will activate the corresponding lamp and deactivate the other.
4. Design a Star Delta Starter involving control and power circuit.
5. Design a Star Delta Starter with forward/reverse involving control and power circuit.
6. Design a PLC based circuit to control the direction of a 3-phase induction motor by realizing latching & interlocking
and include NC stop button for safety.

and include NO stop button for safety.

16. Design a return mechanism for the home position of a double acting piston that is returned by the combination of
pressure sensor and proximity sensor both, after the full extension.
17. A plastic component is to be embossed by using a die which is powered by a double acting cylinder and whose
movement is controlled by using a double piloted 5/2 DCV. The return of the die is to be effected when the cylinder
rod has fully extended to the embossing position and the preset pressure is reached. A roller lever valve is to be
used to confirm full extension and an external piloted sequence valve is to be used to confirm that the threshold
pressure has reached. The pilot signal for retraction must only be generated when the piston rod has reached the
embossing position.
18. Actuate a single acting piston on the count of 3 on pressing the push button by using a plc & coil interface and hold it
in the extended position for 5 seconds.
19. Actuate a double acting piston on the count of 3 on pressing the push button by using a plc & coil interface and hold
it in the extended position for 5 seconds.
20. Actuate a double acting piston on the count of 3 on pressing the push button by using a plc & coil interface and hold
it in the extended position for 5 seconds every cycle and the reciprocation should repeat.
21. In a fully automatic sequencing circuit, the operation involves clamping the part followed by drilling at slow and
controlled speed. Design an electro pneumatic circuit to control the sequence A+B+B-A- (A- clamping and B- Drilling)
using limit switches. Also provide additional start and stop control for the sequencing circuit. Design the circuit
without using sequence valves.
