PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

Time: 3 Hours
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE

1. This assessment requires the candidate to demonstrate competence against unit of


competency: Install Computer Software

2. In this assessment, you will be required to perform TWO (2) practical tasks.

3. Write your name, registration code, date and sign in the practical assessment attendance
register.

4. You have the first 10 minutes to carefully read through the instructions and to collect the
tools/resources required for the task.

5. The assessor will record your performance at critical points using audio-visual means.

You are provided with the following resources:

 Windows OS software in CD/DVD


 Working Computer
 Plain paper

TASK 1 (30 Marks)


In this task, you are required to install an operating system (Windows 10) on the computer
system you have been provided with.
1. Access the BIOS setup utility and configure the following settings:
i. Set the boot order to boot from CD/DVD drive;
ii. Set the current date and time.
2. Insert the Windows 10 installation media into the computer and boot from it.
3. Format the existing hard drive as follows
i. Delete all existing partitions on the hard drive.
ii. Format all the existing partitions
iii. Create two equal partitions. (Partition 1 and 2)
iv. Format Partition 1 and make it your installation directory
4. Make the following selections.
i. Set the installation language to English.
ii. Set the time to Nairobi.
iii. Set the input method to United Kingdom.
5. Set appropriate username of your account using your surname
6. Set the password for your account as “CDACC2023”.
7. Add Control Panel and Network icons on the desktop.
8. Rename partition 2 to “Local Disk D”
9. Schedule windows automatic update
10. Connect the computer to internet and perform the following drivers update:
i. Display
ii. Sound
iii. Network adaptor
iv. USB controllers

TASK 2 (20 Marks)

In this task, you are required to install WAMPSERVER 2.0 in your computer after successfully
installing windows operating system. Create a folder on a desktop and name it as WAMP

1. Open a browser and change the download directory to WAMP folder on the desktop
2. Connect your computer to the internet and download “WAMPSERVER” 32 bit from a
secure website.
3. Run the WAMPSERVER application and change the installation directory to local disk
D/Wamp.
4. Set the following for your WAMPSERVER:
i. Default browser as Edge
ii. Provide a suitable PHP email parameter
5. After complete installation, start all the WAMPSERVER services.
6. Go to the browser and test to see if your WAMPSERVER is working
7. Check if the php admin is working [https://localhost/phpmyadmin/].
