Homework 15_IntroCtrlSys_Fall2012

Homework 15 for the Introduction to Control Systems course involves designing a phase lead compensator for a given control system to meet specific performance criteria. Additionally, students are required to design a phase lag compensator and compare the settling times of the output responses in both cases. The assignment emphasizes teamwork and understanding of the solutions, with evaluations based on group presentations.

Homework 15

Course: Introduction to Control Systems

Class: CT09TIEN
Due date: 09/11/2012
Work in group to solve the following problems:

Prolem 1 (5 points)
R(s) Y(s)
+ Gc(s) G(s)

Figure 1

Given the control system in figure 1, in which:

4e 0.01s
G( s) 
( s  1)( s  2)
Design the phase lead compensator GC(s) so that the closed-loop system has M*550, GM*6dB, and
steady state error to step input ess  0.02. Plot the Bode diagram of the open loop system before and
after compensation by hand.
Plot the simulation result using Matlab to prove that the compensated system satisfies the requirement.

Problem 2: (5 points) Read all the slides about designing of phase lag compensator in
frequency domain
Repeat the problem 1, but design a phase lag compensator. Give your comment on the settling time of
the output response in the two cases

Remember to work in group and make sure that all your group members understand the
solutions. I will evaluate your teamwork by asking random students to present your solutions in
front of the class.
