ELIS 120 Speaking Project Step 3 Form

Step 3: Complete the requested information about each source. Then write a paragraph
about what you learned from each source here:

Source 1 Title: Marine Habitat Destruction

From the sources I have learned that the ocean is very important for our lives.
First, it provides us with oxygen, which we need to breathe. Second, the ocean is
home to many different animals and plants. These creatures are essential for
keeping the ecosystem balanced. However, I found out that human activities are
harming these marine habitats. For example, pollution and overfishing damage
the homes of fish and other sea life. Third, protecting the ocean is crucial for our
food supply, as many people rely on fish. Finally, I understand that we all have a
role in taking care of the ocean to ensure a healthy planet for the future.

Source 2 Title: Ocean Pollution: Causes, Effects and Prevention

Website URL/Where you found it: https://www.texasdisposal.com/blog/ocean-pollution-causes-effects-and-prevention/

From the sources I have learned that ocean pollution is a big problem for our
planet. First, most of the pollution comes from land, like when rain washes trash
into the ocean. Second, oil spills from ships can harm many sea animals and their
homes. Third, plastic waste is a major issue, as millions of tons of plastic end up
in the ocean every year. This plastic can hurt animals that mistake it for food.
Fourth, ocean pollution can also affect human health because we eat fish that
may be contaminated with toxins. It’s important for everyone to help reduce
pollution by using less plastic and properly disposing of trash. By making small
changes, we can protect our oceans and the creatures living in them. Together,
we can help keep the ocean clean and safe for future generations.
Source 3 Title: Pollution and Its Impact on Fish

From the sources I learned that pollution is harmful to fish in many ways. First,
chemicals in the water can make fish sick and affect their growth. Second, plastic
waste can entangle fish or be mistaken for food, which can lead to serious injuries
or death. Third, pollution can also reduce the amount of oxygen in the water,
making it hard for fish to breathe. Fortunately, there are ways we can help! We can
reduce plastic use by choosing reusable items instead of single-use ones.
Additionally, we should properly dispose of trash and recycle when possible.
Planting trees and cleaning up local waterways can also make a big difference. By
taking these small steps, we can protect fish and keep our oceans healthy!

Source 4 Title: 7 Solutions to Overfishing We Need Right Now

Website URL/Where you found it: https://earth.org/solutions-to-overfishing/
From the sources I learned that overfishing happens because more people
want to eat fish. Since the 1960s, the world’s population has grown a lot, which
means more demand for seafood. Because of this demand, fishing has increased,
leading to a decline in fish populations. Many fish species are being caught faster
than they can reproduce. This is a big problem for our oceans and the animals that
live in them. One solution is to stop giving money to fishing companies that harm
fish stocks. We can also protect important fish species, like sharks and tuna, to
help keep the ecosystem balanced. Another way to help is by creating marine
protected areas where fishing is limited. By working together, we can help our fish
populations recover and keep our oceans healthy!
