approved by the client or with lean concrete up to the specified level of the structure
bottom.
3.7. Where and existing facility is anticipated to be encountered bellow grade during
excavation, the locations shall be carefully done so as not to damage such facility.
3.8. The width of the trench at the bottom for underground piping shall be decided
based on pipe size, depth and soil conditions but shall not be less than the pipe
diameter plus 610 mm to keep access for inspections and mechanical compaction.
5. BACKFILLING
5.1. No back filling shall be allowed before construction bellow grade is inspected, tasted
and approved from are removed, and trash and debris are cleaned.
5.2. Back filling shall be done in layer not exceeding 30cm in thickness before
compaction.
5.3. Compaction of the materials shall be accomplished with equipment approved by the
client.
5.4. Back filling material shall be placed carefully around the structures and be
thoroughly compacted to prevent any damage to the permanent works.
5.5. Back filling around underground piping shall be accomplished in the following
manner
5.5.1. Granular materials shall be used for back filling around underground piping
up to the top of the pipe and be packed in layers not exceeding 20cm, or
the pipe diameter whichever is smaller in thickness before compaction.
5.5.2. The material from excavation may be used for backfilling above the pipe;
however, the material shall be subjected to the approval of the client.

material.
7.3. The sub grade shall be true to the line and slope shown and the drawings.
8. COMPACTION
8.1. Unless otherwise specified backfilling material shall be compacted to 95 percent of
maximum dry density to optimum content determined by ASTM D1557
8.2. Sub grade for heavy roads and thank foundation and shall be compacted to 95
percent of maximum dry density to optimum content determined by ASTM D1557
8.3. Prior the commencing compaction, the maximum thickness before compaction of
each layer the minimum number of passes of compaction equipment shall be
determined by the field compaction to ensure the compaction meets the specified
requirements. The above passes shall be approved by the client.
