Pongal

Pongal, is also referred to as Thai Pongal, is a multi-day harvest festival of South India

It is basically a harvesting festival or it can be considered as the 'thanksgiving' festival'

because this festival is celebrated to thank the Sun God and Lord Indra for helping
farmers in getting better-yielding crops. During the festival, people reject old belongings
and welcome new stuff.
The festival is named after the ceremonial "Pongal", which means "to boil,
overflow" and refers to the traditional dish prepared from the new harvest of rice boiled
in milk with jaggery (raw sugar).
Celebrated over four days, Pongal also marks the beginning of the Tamil month called Thai,
which is considered an auspicious month. It usually falls on the 14th or 15th of January each
year.

Onam
Onam is an annual Hindu harvest festival celebrated in the Indian state of Kerala.

Onam is a harvest festival mainly celebrated by people of Kerala in India and by the
Malayali community across the world. Onam is celebrated over 10 days during Kerala's
month of Chingam. During the festival, people will hold grand processions, boat races, and
traditional folk dances such as Thiruvathira, Kathakali, and Pulikali the tiger dance. The Onam
celebrations across the state starts off with a grand procession at Thrippunithura near Kochi
called Atthachamayam, also referred to as Thripunithura Athachamayam. The parade
features elephants marching, drum beats and other music, folk art forms, floats and
colorfully dressed people with masks.
