Method Statement for Electrical Doc No:MS10023

Infrastructure Works Rev No:00

Date applicable:18/01/2025

Scope and Purpose

This method statement outlines the approach, timelines, activities, sequencing, construction administration, quality
management & health, safety management for the Electrical Infrastructure Works project, estimated to span three years. The
document serves as a comprehensive guide to ensure that all phases of the project are executed efficiently, in compliance with
relevant standards & regulations. The scope includes design, construction, commissioning of substations, transmission lines &
associated civil works.

1. Approach Method

Project Understanding

The electrical infrastructure works involve the construction, and commissioning of substations, transmission lines, cable networks
and associated civil works. The approach method shall be as follows:

Construction Phases

 Phase 1: Site Preparation: Clearing and grading of the site, establishing access roads, and setting up site offices.

 Phase 2: Civil Works: Construction of foundations, cable trenches, transformer and mini sub Plinths, and substations.

 Phase 3: Electrical Installations: Installation of conduits, cable Installation, transformers, switchgear, protective relays.

 Phase 4: Testing, commissioning of electrical infrastructure, ensuring it meets performance & safety standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

 Community Relations: Engage with local communities to address concerns & ensure minimal disruption

 Coordination with Authorities: Maintain regular communication with regulatory bodies & utility companies to ensure
compliance & facilitate smooth project progression.

2. Task-Related Timelines

Project Schedule

A comprehensive Gantt chart will be developed, outlining the start and end dates for each phase of the project, including buffer
periods for unforeseen delays. This can only be achieved once a clearly defined scope of work is agreed upon. The following will
serve as a guide to the consolidated times spent on each activity.

Milestones

 Milestone 1: Completion of site preparation and site rehabilitation on completion of works (Month 2).

 Milestone 2: Completion of civil works (Month 12).

 Milestone 3: Completion of electrical installations (Month 24).

 Milestone 4: Project commissioning and handover (Month 36).

Contingency Planning

 Weather Delays: Allow for weather-related disruptions in the schedule.

 Material Delays: Establish contingency plans with multiple suppliers to mitigate material delays.

3. Activities and Sequencing of Works

Site Preparation

 Clearing and Grading: Remove vegetation, debris, and grade the site to the required levels.

 Access Roads: Construct temporary and permanent access roads to facilitate the movement of machinery and
personnel.

 Site Offices: Set up site offices, storage facilities, and worker amenities.

Civil Works

 Foundations: Excavate and construct reinforced concrete foundations for substations and transmission towers.

 Cable Trenches: Construct trenches for laying underground cables, ensuring proper drainage and protection.

 Transformer Plinths: Build reinforced concrete pads to support transformers and other heavy equipment.

Electrical Installations

 Conduit Installation: Install conduits for electrical cables, ensuring proper alignment and secure fittings.

 Cable Laying: Lay and terminate high-voltage and low-voltage cables, ensuring compliance with design specifications.

 Transformer Installation: Install and secure transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.

Testing and Commissioning

 Insulation Resistance Tests: Perform insulation resistance tests on all electrical equipment.

 High Voltage Tests: Conduct high voltage tests to ensure the integrity of the electrical installations.

 Functional Testing: Test the functionality of all equipment and systems before commissioning.

4. Construction Administration

Effective construction administration is essential to ensure that the project is executed according to the plan, within budget

Project Management Structure

 Project Manager: Overall responsibility for project execution, monitoring progress, and stakeholder engagement.

 Site Engineers: Supervise on-site activities, ensure compliance with designs and standards, and report progress.

 Quality Control Officers: Conduct inspections and tests to ensure quality standards are met.

Documentation

 Daily Logs: Maintain daily logs of activities, weather conditions, and incidents.

 Inspection Reports: Document inspection findings and corrective actions taken.

Communication Plan

 Meetings: Hold regular progress meetings with the project team, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

 Reporting: Provide weekly and monthly progress reports to the client and regulatory bodies.

5. Quality Management

Quality management ensures that all works meet the required standards & specs, contributing to the overall success of the
project.

Quality Assurance Plan
