Policies, with Special Emphasis on Caste Census
Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) is ranked 5th amongst all
colleges across India and 4th among Delhi University Colleges as per
the NIRF India rankings 2024. The college has also achieved one of
the highest NAAC scores of 3.77 in 2023 with an 'A++' grade.

Established on 3rd August 1959 as Sanatan Dharma College, ARSD


has been following its motto of “may our learning be endowed with
radiance.”. Serving a wide section of students, ARSD College aims to
provide quality education in the fields of Humanities, Science, and
Commerce, enabling the all-round development of students in its
trust. Today the college has nearly 300 faculty members and more
than 3,700 students.

Republica: The Association of Political Science Department of ARSD


stands by its motto of nurturing informed perspectives and providing a
platform for students to interact and deliberate on current socio-
political issues across the globe.
Established in 2015, Republica: The Association of Political
Science of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, University of
Delhi, provides a platform to students to engage and interact on
contemporary socio-political affairs across the globe.

Republica firmly stands by its mission of nurturing a stand-out


outlook, fostering critical-thinking in the arena of political
science. We host debates, discussions, and seminars to create
spaces where learning and growth happen naturally. By
connecting students with global scholars, we offer them
knowledge, experience, and inspiration they need to explore and
grow.

The preceding years have been a vibrant academic year for


Republica as it successfully organized commendable events such as
National and International Conferences, Cultural Events,
Educational Trips, and the most awaited Annual Departmental
Fest, Poliforum.
Poliforum 2025 is a three-day event focused on discussions,
competitions, and ideas under the theme "Weaving AI: Artificial
Intelligence into Governance and Society”, organized by Republica.
The event aims to explore how AI can shape the future of
democracy and governance in today’s world. Poliforum'25 is an
opportunity to shape and empower the minds of young participants
by encouraging critical thinking, innovation, and dialogue.

Poliforum 2025 brings together the bright minds from universities


across Delhi to explore AI’s role in shaping policies and societies.
This three-day event features engaging talks and competitions,
offering creative discussions and practical insights for the responsible
and equitable use of AI to transform our world.
Youth Parliament is a near-realistic enactment of Parliamentary
proceedings at both state and national level to give young people a
chance to participate in discussions, debate and decision making in
relevance to real world issues and express their opinions and solutions.

Youth Parliament is based on practical institutions, such as the


democratic pillars of governance—Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, etc.—as well
as non-legislative committees like the All India Political Parties Meet.

Participants role-play as real members of a committee, expressing their


opinions as their assigned characters would in real life. This not only
helps participants understand the characters they are representing, but
also the policies and values of political parties, the issues from a political
perspective, and the nuances of real political discourse.

Youth Parliament is popular around the world and in India, the Ministry
of Parliamentary Affairs and several State Governments have set up
Youth Parliament Schemes to help youngsters express themselves. The
purpose of the Youth Parliament is as follows;

(i) To develop in students an insight into the working parliament.


(ii) To make students consider public issues and form their opinion on
them.
(iii) To train students in the technique of group discussion.
(iv) To develop in students an ability to arrive at decision after group
discussion.
(v) To develop respect and tolerance for the views of others.
(vi) To make students aware of various problems faced by our society.

Lok Sabha is the lower house of the Parliament of India which is
elected by the citizens via universal adult suffrage and first-past-
the-post system to represent their respective constituencies. It is a
direct representation of the people and holds additional powers like
being able to raise a motion of no confidence, introduce money
bills, etc.

The Lok Sabha Committee of the Youth Parliament aims at


reconstructing a near replica of the real Lok Sabha with delegates
personating as real members of Lok Sabha and delivering solutions
based on the ideas and values of the politician and party that they
are representing.

While acting as members of Lok Sabha, the committee expects its


representatives to be well versed with their representing
personalities and the political parties policies, ideologies and values
that they represent. All this is to help the delegates understand how
political processes work in India and make them aware of the
challenges and issues that the Indian Governance faces.

The agenda for the committee is ‘A Comprehensive Review of


India’s Reservation Policies, with a Special Emphasis on the Caste
Census’. The committee will debate India’s current reservation
policies, their challenges, and possible solutions, along with a
discussion on the often-debated Caste Census..

The representatives are expected to engage in a fruitful discussion


and find solutions within the envelope of this significant agenda.
