Vocational scenario
The SV STARTUP contest, encouraging students with startup ideas is within the framework of
the Project that supports students to start a business until 2025 signed by the Prime Minister of
Vietnam, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Training. The contest takes place every
year, starting from 2018 to 2025. The Ministry of Education and Training has been officially
responsible for launching the contest nationwide.
Scenario:
Students in a group of four or five are required to conceive a business plan for the SV STARTUP
contest, offering a new product or service that could be located anywhere in Vietnam. Along with the
proposed business plan, each student group needs to demonstrate the analysis of entrepreneurial
mindset required for the success of business execution.
Two parts required to cover and assessed to select the potentially best groups for participating in the
final round of the SV STARTUP contest. The slide followed by a group presentation needs to cover
(1) The business plan and (2) The analysis of Entrepreneurial mindset
(1) The business idea and business model. A student group is required to use real and relevant
qualitative and quantitative data where possible for the preparation of a business plan. The
Business Model Canvas is recommended to be applied as a framework in developing the
business plan.
This is compared and judged according to a set of criteria, which usually include innovation
and uniqueness, business idea and demonstration of market demand, job creation potential
and working conditions, growth potential, and financial sustainability of the business.
The business plan needs to detail the realistic feasibility aspects of the business under
prevailing conditions including the remaining business model CANVAS, namely:
1. Customer segments: Who are your most important customers?
2. Value proposition: What values do you deliver to your customers?
3. Channels: Through what channels do your customer segments want to be reached?
4. Customer relationships: Within each customer segment, customer relationships are
established and maintained
5. Revenue streams: Result from value propositions successfully offered to customers.
6. Key resources: Assets required to offer and deliver the previously described
elements.
7. Key activities: Are performed to manage the key resources.
8. Key partnership: It is possible to outsource or insource certain activities.
9. Cost Structure: The elements of the business model result in a certain cost structure.
The student group is required to choose real start-ups and analyse their founders’
entrepreneurial mindset, traits, characteristics and skills associated with entrepreneurship.
The selection of start-up ventures and entrepreneurs must include a serial entrepreneur, a
technology entrepreneur and a social one. It is expected that the student group applies the
theoretical concepts in the area of entrepreneurial traits, skills and mindset development in
this part.
Combining your own business plan and the chosen start-up ventures, the student group will
illustrate key learning points about entrepreneurial mindset, traits, characteristics, and skills
that the group need to develop in order to implement your business plan successfully.
Please note that the resources listed are examples for you to use as a starting point in your
