receivers – Super heterodyne receivers.

UNIT III INFORMATION THEORY 9

Measure of information – Entropy – Source coding theorem – Discrete memory less channels – lossless,
deterministic, noiseless, BEC, BSC – Mutual information – Channel capacity – Shannon Fano coding, Huffman
Coding, run length coding, LZW algorithm.

UNIT IV BANDPASS SIGNALING 9

Geometric representation of signals – Correlator and matched filter – ML detection – generation and detection,
PSD, BER of coherent BPSK, BFSK, QPSK – Principles of QAM – Structure of noncoherent receivers – BFSK, DPSK

UNIT V ERROR CONTROL CODING TECHNIQUES 9

Channel coding theorem – Linear block codes – Hamming codes – Cyclic codes (CRC) – Convolutional codes –
Viterbi decoding (Soft/Hard decision decoding).
