Development of a LabVIEW synopsis

The project aims to develop a cost-effective LabVIEW-based system for measuring and controlling electrical machine parameters such as voltage, current, speed, power, and temperature. It involves creating a custom Data Acquisition (DAQ) module that integrates with LabVIEW for real-time monitoring and data analysis. The expected outcome is a functional, portable system with an intuitive interface that can be expanded for additional measurements.

Objective:
The primary aim of this project is to develop a cost-effective, reliable, and user-friendly system
for measuring and controlling the parameters of electrical machines using LabVIEW. The
system will consist of a custom-built Data Acquisition (DAQ) module integrated with LabVIEW
software for real-time monitoring, data analysis, and control of machine parameters such as
voltage, current, speed (RPM), power, and temperature.
Problem Statement:
In laboratories and industrial environments, precise measurement and control of electrical
machine parameters are critical for performance evaluation, fault detection, and optimization.
Traditional measurement systems are either expensive or lack the flexibility for real-time data
visualization and control. This project addresses the need for an affordable and efficient
solution to measure and control parameters of electrical machines using modern software
tools like LabVIEW.
Features of the System:
1. Parameter Measurement:

• Voltage: Using a voltage divider circuit and an ADC to measure machine voltage
(AC/DC).

• Current: Using a Hall-effect current sensor (e.g., ACS712) for accurate current
readings.

• Speed (RPM): Using an optical encoder or Hall-effect sensor to measure

rotational speed.
2. Data Acquisition (DAQ) Module:

• A custom-built DAQ module will serve as an interface between the sensors and
LabVIEW.

• It will utilize microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino or ESP32) to process sensor signals

and send data to LabVIEW via USB or wireless communication (e.g., Wi-Fi).
3. LabVIEW Integration:

• Real-time parameter visualization through graphical indicators (meters, graphs,

etc.).

• Data logging for further analysis and reporting.

• Remote monitoring and control of the machine's operational parameters.

Methodology
The project will be implemented in the following phases:
1. System Design:

• Identify the parameters to be measured (voltage, current, speed, etc.).

• Select appropriate sensors (e.g., ACS712 for current, optical encoder for
speed).

• Design the signal conditioning circuits to ensure sensor compatibility with the
DAQ module.
2. Hardware Development:

• Develop a custom DAQ module using a microcontroller (Arduino or ESP32) for

data acquisition.

• Interface sensors with the microcontroller and test individual components for
accuracy.

• Ensure protection mechanisms like overvoltage and overcurrent safeguards are

in place.
3. Software Implementation:

• Write firmware for the microcontroller to process sensor data and

communicate with LabVIEW via USB or wireless protocols.

• Develop a LabVIEW-based graphical interface for real-time parameter

monitoring, control, and data logging.

Block Diagram:
Expected Outcomes:

• A fully functional system capable of measuring key electrical machine parameters in

real-time.

• A cost-effective and portable DAQ module integrated seamlessly with LabVIEW.

• An intuitive LabVIEW interface for parameter monitoring, data logging, and control.

• A flexible system that can be extended to measure additional parameters as needed.
