Congratulations on reaching this level of your academic journey. I am sure reaching this far took guts, determination, and
personal sacrifice. Welcome to the Department of Government Management (DGM). This study guide provides all the
information you need to navigate your semester journey successfully. Do not photocopy or distribute this study guide without
getting permission from CUT. I am here to assist and guide you, but ultimately, you will determine whether you will succeed.
This semester will require copious amounts of self-study, assignments, and projects to help you grow into a respected,

MEET THE TEAM
THE LECTURER:
Name: Mr T.A Taaibosch Mr. T Taaibosch Joined CUT in 2012 as a Lecturer Assistant
Office:39 First Floor in the Department of Government Management. After
Building: Humanitas matriculating in 2002, he studied Public Management at CUT
@cut.ac.za and graduated Baccalaures Technologiae (B-TECH) from the
(051) 507 3349 CUT, FS in 2008, this is where he showed interest in
studying further to get Magister Technologiae (M-TECH in
2015). As an academic, he further studied at Rhodes
University where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in
Higher Education in 2018 and he is currently busy with
Doctoral Studies in Public Management at CUT, FS.

Currently, Mr. Taaibosch is working as a Full-time Lecturer in


the Department of Government. His crucial roles are to
Create learning objectives, plan and deliver lectures,
Develop assignments and lesson plans, Demonstrate control
of the classroom, maintain a safe learning environment,
Provide constructive feedback to students, Oversee
classroom activities, facilities, and equipment, Develop and
administer tests, Create and modify course materials

DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATOR: Ms. Felicia Rooi


Ms. Felicia Rooi is an Alumni of CUT, Free State; she
completed her Advanced Diploma in Transport and Logistics
and Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurial Management
at the Central University of Technology, Free State. Joined
Wil/Skills Development Unit as Student Assistant 2015. In
2017, she joined the Department of Office Management &
Technology as the Student Assistant (Lab Assistant). 2018,
she joined the Department of Business Support Studies as
the acting Departmental Administrator then later joined the
Research, Innovations & Engagement Unit until 2019.
Currently she is working as Departmental Administrator in the
Department of Government Management. Her crucial

HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT (HOD): Adv. MG Phetheni

Adv. Phetheni joined CUT in 2018 as a part-time Law lecturer


in the department of Government Management and
Department of Business Management. After matriculating, he
studied Human Resources management and graduated from
the CUT, FS, this is where he showed interest in Law
subjects namely: (Labour Law and Industrial Relations). Post
School Education qualifications, he furthered his studies at
the University of the Free State, obtaining Certificate and
Advanced certificate in Labour Law, Certificate and
Advanced Certificate in Commercial Law, Certificate in Social
security Law and Certificate in Alternative Dispute
Resolutions. He further obtained PG Dip in Labour Law
(UFS), degree in Theology from (UFS), LLB (UNISA) and
master’s degree, (LLM) (UFS)-with specialization in Labour
Law. Currently busy with Doctoral Studies (LLD) with (UFS)
In 2019 He was permanently appointed at CUT (Welkom)
campus for law subjects and moved to the Bloemfontein
campus in 2020 as a Law lecturer. Between 2020 to current

COURSE NORMS AND RULES
LATE SUBMISSIONS:
 Late submission equals a ZERO. Due dates are provided in advance
 Make sure you familiarise yourself with due dates

LANGUAGE MEDIUM:
 The official language of communication at CUT is English, Afrikaans and Sesotho.
 Classes, tests and exams will be conducted only in English.

CLASS ATTENDANCE:
 The programme is a blended learning programme, with contact classes and material assignments on eThuto.
 There will be penalties for non-attendance and late-coming.
 All students must sign the attendance register or scan their student cards using the attendance scanning
system.
 It is essential to bring student cards to campus and classes every day.

CLASSES AND LECTURES:


 Come to classes with notes, notebooks and stationery
 Students are expected to contribute to class discussions and group work.
 It would be best if you read the assigned eThuto modules before classes.

PROGRESSION AND PREREQUISITES


Regarding the progression of CDW from one year to another, please note the following:

No student will be allowed to graduate without completing the Academic Literacy and Communication Studies
programme. No student will be allowed to graduate without completing Personal Information Management
(PIM5011 OR PIM5012).

Regarding the progression of PBM from one year to another, please note the following:

No student will be allowed to graduate without completing the Academic Literacy and Communication Studies
programme. No student will be allowed to graduate without completing Personal Information Management
(PIM5011/PIM 5012). PIM5011 is equivalent to PIM5012.

If a student fails a specific module, the module must first be repeated in the next year, in the semester in which
the module is presented. The student may continue with the following year’s modules, provided that the student
first repeats the modules he/she has previously failed. No student will be allowed to register for more than five
modules per semester, with the exception of students who applied for subject recognition.
