Perfection Of Character

1. Let us study the subject of perfection from the Bible’s perspective.

2a. From the following two scriptures, what is synonymous to the word “perfect”? 2 Chronicles 8:16; 2 Chronicles 24:13,14
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2b. Note: The word perfection means to finish the work.
3. What work does Jesus want to finish, complete, perfect in us? Romans 9:28____________________________________________________
4. According to Luke 13:32, Jesus says that on the third day He will be perfected. Perfection is used synonymously with which word that is also
connected with the third day? Luke 18:33; Luke 24:7,46____________________________________________________________________

5a. What experience is connected with the resurrection? Romans 6:3-7__________________________________________________________

5b. Note: Perfection means that we are walking in the newness of life and we choose not to sin.
6. The Bible says, “As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.” Matthew 24:37. What words did the Lord use to
describe Noah’s condition, just before the flood? Genesis 6:9_______________________________________________________________

7. Like Noah, what declaration should we aim to receive from God? Genesis 6:9_________________________________________________

What must happen to our characters before the Lord returns?_______________________________________________________________

When Christ shall come, our vile bodies are to be changed, and made like His glorious body; but the vile character will not be made
holy then. The transformation of character must take place before His coming. Our natures must be pure and holy; we must have the mind of
Christ, that He may behold with pleasure His image reflected upon our souls. . . . {OHC 278.3}

8. The Bible says that when Jesus returns only the people who are faithful to their part of the covenant will be saved. The Bible says, “Gather my
saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” Psalm 50:5. What did the Lord tell Abraham to do, so that He
would make a covenant with him? Genesis 17:1,2_______________________________________________________________________
"’When the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.’ Christ is waiting with longing desire
for the manifestation of Himself in His church. When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come
to claim them as His own.” {COL 69.1}

9. If we want to be gathered and saved when Jesus returns, what should be our determination like Abraham? Genesis 17:1,2
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

10. What does Jesus give to us to show us perfection, to reveal to us if we are converted or unconverted? Psalm 19:7_____________________
11. What must be the condition of God’s people before the return of Jesus?______________________________________________________
“Now, while our great High Priest is making the atonement for us, we should seek to become perfect in Christ. Not even by a thought
could our Savior be brought to yield to the power of temptation. Satan finds in human hearts some point where he can gain a foothold; some
sinful desire is cherished, by means of which his temptations assert their power. But Christ declared of Himself: ‘The prince of this world cometh,
and hath nothing in Me.’ John 14:30. Satan could find nothing in the Son of God that would enable him to gain the victory. He had kept His Fa-
ther's commandments, and there was no sin in Him that Satan could use to his advantage. This is the condition in which those must be found
who shall stand in the time of trouble.” {GC 623.1}

12. The Bible says that Job’s experience is set forth as an example for God’s people in these last days. See James 5:8-11. How was Job de-
clared by God? Job 1:1,8____________________________________________________________________________________________
13. What must the people who will be declared perfect by God, like Job, eschew or hate? Job 1:1,8___________________________________
14. What does Jesus call us to be? Matthew 5:48_________________________________________________________________________
“God's ideal for His children is higher than the highest human thought can reach. ‘Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is
in heaven is perfect.’ This command is a promise. The plan of redemption contemplates our complete recovery from the power of Satan. Christ
always separates the contrite soul from sin. He came to destroy the works of the devil, and He has made provision that the Holy Spirit shall be
imparted to every repentant soul, to keep him from sinning….The ideal of Christian character is Christlikeness. As the Son of man was perfect in
His life, so His followers are to be perfect in their life.” {DA 311.2}

15. What did the Rich Young Ruler desire? Matthew 19:16. What did Jesus call the Rich Young Ruler to become? Matthew 19:21
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
16. What was the Young Ruler told to do, in order to be declared perfect by Jesus? How did he respond and react? Matthew 19:21,22
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
17a. What is one of the many purposes for the Scripture? 2 Timothy 3:16,17______________________________________________________
17b. Note: A person who is being perfected chooses to do good works.

18. What does Jesus instruct us to go on unto? Hebrews 6:1__________________________________________________________________

19. The people who are being perfected will not be laying what? Hebrews 6:1____________________________________________________
“By His perfect obedience He has made it possible for every human being to obey God's commandments.” {COL 311.4}
“Wrong habits must be overcome. Right habits must be formed. Under the discipline of the greatest Teacher the world has ever known,
Christians must move onward and upward toward perfection. This is God's command, and no one should say, I cannot do it. He should say in-
stead, God requires me to be perfect, and He will give me strength to overcome all that stands in the way of perfection. He is the source of all
wisdom, all power. . . .” {RC 164.2}

20. Who do we need within our hearts so that we can be perfected? Colossians 1:27,28____________________________________________

22. What is the seed synonymous to? Luke 8:11_______________________________________________________________________

23. What things will cause a person not to bring forth fruit to perfection? Luke 8:14; Matthew 13:22; Mark 4:18,19
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

24. What is one of the purposes for the gifts in the church? Ephesians 4:11-13___________________________________________________

25. What must be the focus of ministers and church leaders as they minister to the church members? Ephesians 4:11-13
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

26. Regarding perfection, what warning does Jesus give? Job 9:19,20__________________________________________________________
“Perfection through our own good works we can never attain. The soul who sees Jesus by faith, repudiates his own righteousness. He
sees himself as incomplete, his repentance insufficient, his strongest faith but feebleness, his most costly sacrifice as meager, and he sinks in
humility at the foot of the cross. But a voice speaks to him from the oracles of God's Word. In amazement he hears the message, ‘Ye are com-
plete in Him.’ Now all is at rest in his soul. No longer must he strive to find some worthiness in himself, some meritorious deed by which to gain
the favor of God.” {FW 107.4}

27. Although the work of perfection is not complete in our lives, what should be our experience? Philippians 3:12-14
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

28. What warning, what instruction, what promise, should motivate us to strive for perfection in Jesus? 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 2 Corinthians 7:1
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

29. How does the apostle Paul conclude the epistle to the Corinthians, which is applicable to us? 2 Corinthians 13:11
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

30. What is Jesus’ prayer and desire for His people? John 17:23_______________________________________________________________

31. Will you choose to fulfill this prayer of Jesus?___________________________________________________________________________

32. What are the rewards for the person who unites with Jesus, so that he/she can be declared perfect? John 17:24; Psalm 37;37;
Proverbs 2:21______________________________________________________________________________________________________
