• Text book: Engineering Drawing: Plane and
solid geometry, N. D. Bhatt
Drawing is said to be the language of engineers. All material objects
have a shape and form, which can be represented by a combination
of known geometrical figures.

Any construction or fabrication be it be a building, a factory or a

machine has to begin with a drawing which forms the basis and
guide to get the work done.

Drawing is commonly used mode of communication in the

engineering industry. Proper exposure to drawing helps the
students to translate different ideas into practice.

Acquisition of skill will produce a drawing to represent a given

object with sufficient knowledge to understand and interpret. As
such drawing is regarded a pre-requisite for technician engineer.
Course Description (1-0-3: 3 credits)

Introduction to Engineering Drawing

• Conics and Engineering Curves – ellipse, parabola, hyperbola,
cycloid, trochoid, involute, etc.
• Projections of Lines – traces, true length
• Projections of Plane Figures
• Projections of Solid Objects – cubes, prisms, pyramids,
cylinders, cones and spheres
• Sections of Solids – true shapes of section, projection on
auxiliary planes
• Isometric Views and Projection, Isometric Scale;
• Development of Surfaces (only if time permits)
• Introduction to CAD tools – Basics, Use of SOLIDWORKS
(Computer Graphics) to create 2D and 3D objects
Standing Instructions
• All tutorials have to be completed in the Drawing Hall
(S302) during the assigned time schedule

• Submission of drawing sheets is mandatory at the end of

the practical class

• Graded tutorial sheets will be returned to students and

those must be preserved until the final grades are posted at
the end of the semester

• No make-up / compensatory practical class will be

provided for the incomplete/missed tutorials
