ARTICLE REVIEW GUIDELINE AND PROCEDURE
Reading and summarizing a research article in the any various of sciences can be
overwhelming. Below is a simple model to guide students through this process. To note, the
article may probably a research based article and or a non-research based article.
The research based article is an article produced and written down based on the result
of the research (research, thesis, and dissertation). In this, the author work hard and smartly
to compress a long report approximately hundreds pages to be 7- 15 pages in length. This
need an extra efforts and strategy how to make a long written text to be shorter one.
While the non-research based article is an article which produced and written down not
based the result of the research (research, thesis, and dissertation) but it is written and
developed based on theoretical review, or review of the book, and the problem solution
article. The length of this article may range from 5 to 10 pages. Again it depends on how the
author develop his or her writing.

must be in line with the research problem.

In this case, the article author label the section as
follow a) result of research and b) discussion.
To many case, the research problem (s) often is or are
not written explicitly the article that is why article
reviewer consequently cannot detect whether the result
of the research is in line with the research problem (s).

article shows its novelty of the issue or theme
researched.
4 Conclusion A conclusion is the last section and or content of the
article. It must summarize the whole article in term of
one single paragraph and short.
To review this, the article reviewer has to smartly and
comprehensively analyze whether the conclusion is
presented in a proper manner in accordance to how the
conclusion should be written.
5 Linguistics Domain Language use in scientific writing and or in science
language is different form the language use in public or
common and or daily language. They may be different
in terms of lexis, grammatical pattern and or syntax,

scientific and technical terms, etc. It also discusses the
consistency of the terms used.
To note, the same words and or lexis may different
meaning in different field of study.
To review this domain, the article reviewer must have a
good and qualified of understanding and knowledge
regarding the rules and characteristics of the scientific
writing and lexis, grammatical pattern and or syntax,
scientific and technical terms as well.
5 Citations and references The terms of citation could fall into two domains-in text
citation and reference list citation. The rules of citation
both domain depends of the citation manual which are
often and widely used in academic and scientific
writing. To say some, APA style standing for American
Psychology Association (APA style) is widely used in
social and humanity field of science, or MLA (Modern
Language Association) is particularly used in the field
of linguistic study, or AMS (American Mathematic
Society), etc.
The rules and ethics of the citation styles above may
different from one another. So that why different
journal publisher may use different style.
To comment and criticize this section, the article
reviewer must be well familiar and informed with the
citation style used in the article.
C Recommendations and Suggestions
Recommendation After, article reviewer reviews the article, in the last
Suggestions section, he/she should recommend and suggest what to
revise, or what to improve in the article in order to
provide better article.
D Reviewer Comment In this section, the article reviewer may draw is opinion
or evaluation overall about the article by rating it with
likert scale ( strongly good, good, neutral, poor, and or
very poor).
