2 About Extended ECM 23.4

This section provides an overview of Extended ECM 23.4.

The product family of Extended ECM is a leading Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system,
managing the information lifecycle across the enterprise, from capture to archiving and disposition.

It can be integrated into various business applications such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors,
or Salesforce, has deep integration into the Microsoft 365 collaboration suite and supports many

different business processes with out-of-the-box Business Scenarios as well as tailor-made
applications that can be developed or customized with Extended ECM.

Extended ECM offers different deployment options, ranging from installation directly on physical
hardware, virtual machines to modern, cloud-native deployments using Docker images and Helm
charts on Kubernetes platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and AWS.

OpenText Extended ECM (Private Cloud) is the equivalent private cloud service offering which can be
considered as an alternative to customer-managed deployments.

The Release Notes cover the entire family of Extended ECM products including:

• OpenText™ Content Suite Platform

• OpenText™ Extended ECM Platform
• OpenText™ Extended ECM for Microsoft® Office 365™
• OpenText™ Extended ECM for SAP® Solutions
• OpenText™ Extended ECM for SAP® SuccessFactors
• OpenText™ Extended ECM for Salesforce®
• OpenText™ Extended ECM for Engineering
• OpenText™ Extended ECM for Government

SAP customers: The Release Notes cover following SAP products:

• SAP Extended Enterprise Content Management by OpenText

• SAP SuccessFactors Extended Enterprise Content Management by OpenText
• SAP Extended Enterprise Content Management by OpenText for Microsoft Office 365

OpenText™ Extended ECM for Salesforce® is not available for SAP customers, unless the customer
purchases separate Extended ECM for Salesforce® subscriptions from OpenText.

2.1 Simplified software delivery

With the Extended ECM CE 23.4 release, we have simplified software delivery and installation. What
was previously installed separately has been consolidated for Content Server. Independently, whether
you have licensed Content Server, Content Suite Platform, Extended ECM Platform, Extended ECM
for Microsoft Office 365, Extended ECM for SAP Solutions, Extended ECM for SAP SuccessFactors,
Extended ECM for Salesforce, Extended ECM for Engineering, or Extended ECM for Government,
you get the same Content Server.

Content Server combines related products, modules, and components in one installable software
package. There is no need to identify, check compatibility, check availability, and install modules
individually.

By consolidating and simplifying our Content Server delivery, we will provide a clearer view of all the
capabilities and opportunities Extended ECM can bring to you and your business.

Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes 3

You will find these capabilities as structural elements in this Release Notes document, as well as in
the documentation. For more information, see Documentation.

What has changed for you? After installing Extended ECM – or upgrading your system to CE 23.4 –
your installation is a complete Extended ECM system. For a complete list of components see
Packaging and downloads.

What does it mean for your license agreements?

Your license agreements and license keys will determine the allowed use of the software. Additional
functionality may be accessible to you. However, your license agreement with OpenText remains
applicable and you are eligible to use only the features that are part of your license plan. For more
information, see Note on the End User License Agreement.

2.2 License enforcement

The Extended ECM X-Plan licenses are available for all new customers and existing customers who
wish to switch.

Upgrading from a legacy license model to the Extended ECM X-Plans requires a new contract and
therefore cannot be carried out automatically. It requires manual steps after the license has been
changed. For more information about the procedures of a license type switch and its implications, see
this Knowledge Base Article Understanding the Extended ECM License Framework.

The Extended ECM X-Plan license enforcement prevents compliance issues like overuse or
unentitled use because Extended ECM checks the license of every user when they sign in. Users
must have at least an X1 license to sign in to the system.

The Extended ECM X-Plans license key clearly shows the type of X-Plan and the number of
purchased named users. Users in groups or partitions need to be allocated to a license type. When
users first sign in, each named user is counted against the total number of licenses that have been
purchased. If the number of users exceeds the number of available licenses, no additional new users
can sign in. The license counters and their usage can be monitored in OTDS.

2.3 New features

Extended ECM 23.4 includes the following new features.

Document Management, Smart View, and Extended ECM Mobile

• Vertically aligned metadata fields: Introduced vertically aligned metadata fields, which
enhances the overall user experience in Smart View by providing better accessibility and
responsiveness.

• Pinned Columns view: Introduced a view called “Pinned columns” for Nodes table browse
pages and Search pages. This view allows users to manually resize columns and provides
horizontal scrolling if the columns exceed the screen width. Each user can choose their preferred
view and their browser will persist their custom browsing experience for future sessions. For more
information, see OpenText Extended ECM Smart View User Guide.

4 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

• User Proxies (Delegation): Users can set another user to be their delegate. This allows the
assigned user to access and update content as if they were the target user. This ensures that
access to key documents and vital processes can continue in the event of absences.
For more information, see Content Server Configuration Guide.

• Online Help: The Classic View User Help and Administration Help are now available through the
same Global Help Service used by the Smart View User Help. This change provides a unified
experience across all user interfaces in Extended ECM..
• Extended ECM Mobile and Business Attachment Widget: Added support for the Business
Attachment widget, which displays a list of business attachments linked to an individual business
object. For more information, see Extended ECM Mobile: Configuration Guide.

• Extended ECM Mobile and Business Workspaces: The ability to add Folders inside Business
Workspaces is now supported in Extended ECM Mobile App. For more information, see Extended
ECM Mobile: Configuration Guide.

• Extended ECM Mobile and AppWorks Workflows: Added the ability to view a workflow
overview including all related tasks and each task detail.

Business Workspaces
• Hierarchical Business Workspace structure: Users can create on-demand nested Business
Workspaces when a hierarchical template structure was configured by the business administrator.
To use this feature, define template shortcuts to the subordinated Business Workspace templates
in the Business Workspace. With this approach you can create complex Business Workspace
structures.
For more information, see OpenText Business Workspaces: Configuration Guide.
• Reference attribute is a required field: If you switch to only required fields in the workspace
creation dialog box or in the Business Workspace properties dialog box, the reference attribute
remains in the dialog box.
For more information, see OpenText Extended ECM Platform: Integration and Configuration
Guide

Business Process Library

• Business Scenario User Help: A new guide summarizes information about all available
Extended ECM business scenarios. You can learn about their general structure and special
features for each business scenario and how to use and configure them.
For more information, see OpenText Extended ECM Business Scenario: User Guide.

• Procurement business scenario: Manage content related to your procurement process in

Business Workspaces as standalone scenarios or driven by processes in SAP S/4HANA.
In the standalone scenario, employees request to buy goods or services within a Workflow. After
approving the purchase requisition Workflow, a purchase order Workspace is created with all
documents that were collected during the processing of the Workflow.
In SAP S/4HANA, the Business Workspaces for purchase requisition, request for quotations,

Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes 5

purchase orders, purchase contracts as well as business partner and product are created
automatically and kept in sync with the data and relationships in SAP S/4HANA. Users working in
SAP S/4HANA can manage their unstructured information in these Business Workspaces while
working in SAP apps even in the SAP Fiori Inbox.
For more information, see OpenText Extended ECM Business Scenario: User Guide.

• Adapt business scenarios to your needs: Business administrators can change the
configuration of business scenarios to suit their individual needs, which can accelerate the
project and proof of concepts and enable them to learn more about newest capabilities.
For more information, see OpenText Extended ECM Business Scenario: User Guide.
• Background images: For every business scenario, a background image is now included in the
transports to create a visually attractive shortcut tile to the departmental page.
For more information, see OpenText Extended ECM Business Scenario: User Guide.

Viewing and transformation

10 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

• Service Users: Service Users now have an option to not be transactionally tracked. This allows
integrating OpenText components to Extended ECM with an API only account.

Developer
• OUNIT Feature - The "OScript -> Unit Test" preferences has introduced a feature called the
"Show OUnit view when unit tests are run" option. This option, mirrored in the Preference page,
helps when OUnit is not open and the user has not configured the view to show test execution.
For more information, see Content Server SDK Guide.
• OUNIT Feature - The "OScript -> Unit Test" preferences has introduced a feature called the
"Number of unit tests to group into a single execution" option. Entering a number here will result in
CSIDE dividing or chunking unit test executions into discrete batches. The order of test execution
is unaffected. Chunking test execution allows CSIDE to provide test execution feedback sooner
and it also allows for un-executed unit test batches to be cancelled (the currently executing test
batch will run to completion). For more information, see Content Server SDK Guide.
• OUNIT Feature - All "run unit test options" now have a "calculate test coverage" option. Selecting
this option results in CSIDE recording the invocation of any functions that exist in the workspace
or OScript explorer. Once tests have been executed the coverage report view is displayed. For
more information, see Content Server SDK Guide.
• CSIDE Patch Tool - CSIDE now provides convenience functionality for patch creation. For more
information, see Content Server SDK Guide.

2.4 Discontinued and deprecated features

When software components of Extended ECM are reaching the end of their lifecycle, OpenText is
taking a phased approach.

12 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

In a first step, features are marked as deprecated to make customers aware of upcoming changes.
Deprecated features should not be used in new implementations. The functionality is yet not removed
from the software, but customers are encouraged to consider alternatives to prepare for a future
change. Deprecated features remain in this state for several updates, providing the opportunity to
plan and adapt.

After a certain period, functionality is officially discontinued. It is removed from the product and certain
cross-product compatibility is no longer maintained. OpenText offers either automatic conversion to
newer functionality, or if not possible for technical or commercial reasons, gives advance notice by
announcing the deprecation of the feature in the Release Notes.

Discontinued
Binders and Cases object types: Have been discontinued starting with version 22.4. They have
been replaced by Business Workspaces and were no longer recommended for new implementations
since 2017 (release 16.2.0). Customers need to convert existing Binders and Cases into Business
Workspaces using the migration utilities available with Extended ECM. For more information, see
Knowledge Base Article.

Old SAPUI5 components: Starting with version 22.4, both SAPUI5 components without the Create
and Complete function for Business Workspace creation are discontinued. They have been replaced
by newer components in 20.2. For more information, see Extended ECM for SAP Solutions - SDK
and API Documentation.

Engineering Workspace rule has been dropped from the Perspective Manager. OpenText
recommends that you use the Workspace Template rule while creating Perspectives.

Imaging Reviews and Notes: Has been discontinued as of CE 23.1. It should not be used for any
new deployments. As part of the discontinuation, added a utility that migrates notes and annotations
to be directly accessible using Extended ECM Imaging Viewers configurations for the ArchiveLink
documents, which can be used for existing deployments.

Smart View light theme CSS file: Smart View light theme CSS file (/img/csui/themes/
light/overrides.css), which provides the CSS styles for light theme, is discontinued in Extended ECM
23.1.

PostgreSQL Helm sub-charts: Beginning in CE 23.4, the Extended ECM Helm charts will not
include the sample PostgreSQL sub-charts otcs-db, otac-db, otpd-db (they were not intended
or supported for production scenarios).

Server platforms and databases:

• Windows Server: Windows 2016 support is discontinued as of 23.2.

• Web Server: Tomcat 8.5 support is discontinued as of 23.2.
• Application Server: Tomcat 8.5 is discontinued as of 23.2.
• Web Server: Apache HTTP Server 2.4x is discontinued.
• Azure Database for PostgreSQL Single Server is discontinued as of 22.4 and it is replaced by
Azure Database for PostgreSQL – Flexible Server.
• Tomcat 9 is discontinued for all components of Extended ECM except Archive Center.

Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes 13

• PostgreSQL 11 is discontinued as of 23.3.

My Mailbox: The My Mailbox option has been discontinued as of CE 23.4.

Email notifications for shared Items in an error state: This feature has been deprecated in CE
23.3 and will be discontinued in CE 23.4. Email notifications will no longer be sent to share
administrators for items that are shared from Extended ECM to Core Share and have transitioned into
an error state. The email notifications will be replaced by in-app notifications in the Notification Center
in Extended ECM.

Tempo Box support: CE 22.4 is the last update that will have the ability to support Tempo Box
integration.

Old auto format feature: With CSIDE 16.2.8 a new implementation of the OScript Auto Format
feature was introduced while retaining the option to switch to the old implementation using a
Preferences switch. With the 23.2 update the "old" auto format implementation and the Preference
switch will be removed from the CSIDE code. Starting with CSIDE 23.2 the "new" auto format
implementation will be the only OScript auto format option.

Deprecated
The following features are deprecated and will be discontinued in the future:

Email Archiving in Enterprise Connect: Email Archiving is deprecated and beginning in CE 24.4,
Email Archiving functionality will no longer be available in Enterprise Connect.

Content Sharing Icons: The icon used to represent an item shared between Extended ECM and
Core Share or Microsoft Teams is changing. Beginning in CE 24.1, the icon will be replaced either
with the Core Share icon for items shared with Core Share or it will be replaced with the Teams icons
for items that are shared with Microsoft Teams.

Enterprise Connect Outlook Add-in: Microsoft has announced the release of a new Outlook for
Windows that does not support COM/VSTO based Outlook add-ins. Since Enterprise Connect
Outlook add-in is COM/VSTO based, this Outlook add-in will NOT be compatible with the new Outlook

Outlook Web Add-in: Due to Microsoft’s announcement of the deprecation of the EWS API for
Exchange Online, customers are advised to switch to the Microsoft Graph API. A configuration option
has been added to enter the Azure Application Identifier and credentials which are required for the
Outlook Web Add-in to connect to Exchange Online and retrieve EML files.

Remote Cache: Is deprecated and should not be used for new installations. Syndication should be
explored as a replacement.

Server platforms and databases:

14 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

• Linux 7 will be deprecated from 24.1.
• SQL Server 2017 will be deprecated from 24.4 (tentatively).
• Archive Center will move to Tomcat 10 in the future.
• Linux 8 support will be deprecated shortly due to security and third-party concerns raised by
customers.
• Support for Linux 9 has been added in CE 23.4.

Project and Community object types have been replaced by Business Workspaces and are no
longer recommended for new implementations. OpenText is planning to discontinue these object
types in the fourth quarter of 2024 (release CE 24.4) and is recommending converting existing
Projects and Communities into Business Workspaces using the migration utilities available with
Extended ECM.

Business Workspaces: The Import Configuration for Workspace Types, Unique Names, and
Business Object Types with an XML file has been deprecated since CE 21.4. As an alternative use
the Transport Warehouse.

Extended ECM Platform User Guide and Extended ECM Platform Admin Guide: These two
guides are now dissolved with CE 23.3. Information in the User Guide is transferred to the Smart View
User Guide. Information in the Admin Guide is available in the Extended ECM Platform Integration
and Configuration Guide.

Content Web Services: This feature has been deprecated as of CE 22.4. Content Web Services is
no longer recommended for new implementations and existing implementations should leverage the
REST API infrastructure.

Internal OTDS: The Internal version of OpenText Directory Service will be removed from the
Extended ECM package, with a target update of 24.3. OTDS is currently provided as a convenience
for easy installation of development, test, and demonstration systems. Connection to an OTDS
server will still be required.

2.4.2.1 Enterprise Application Integration – SAP

Bulk Creation: Starting with CE 22.4 Bulk business object declaration program
/OTX/RLSA_0_WSC_CREATE_GEN is deprecated. Please use /OTX/RM_WSC_BATCH_CREATE
instead. Consequently, please replace any scheduled background job using
/OTX/RLSA_0_WSC_CREATE_GEN with a similar job using /OTX/RM_WSC_BATCH_CREATE.

Business Object Browser: Starting with CE 22.4, OpenText Business Object Browser is deprecated
and should not be used for new installations1. Instead, you can create SAP Fiori element apps based
on metadata and annotations of OData services and place the Fiori UI component for Business
Workspaces or Business Documents inside these generated Fiori element apps.

1
In other words, please do not install OTEXBASB. Furthermore, if you are not using OpenText
Vendor Invoice Management, please do not install OTBCBAS, OTBCWUI, OTVIMBAS, or OTVIMFUI.

Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes 15

2.4.2.2 Enterprise Application Integration - Salesforce

Salesforce Federated Search (SFFS) application support: As announced in previous Release

Notes, the Salesforce Federated Search (SFFS) application has been removed from the product.
During the provided transition period limited product support is available until the fourth quarter of
2023 (release CE 23.4). Customers who wish to continue using Salesforce Federated Search are
advised to consult the respective product documentation and should make the necessary
arrangements to update their configuration.

Extended ECM for Salesforce App support of Salesforce Classic UI: OpenText Extended ECM
applications running in the Salesforce Classic user interface have been retired as of October 31, 2022
and will no longer be supported. Additional capabilities and feature configuration will only be available
in the Extended ECM by OpenText Lightning application going forward. If you are using Salesforce
Classic, you will need to switch to Salesforce Lightning mode to make configuration changes in the
new Extended ECM by OpenText Lightning application. For more information about switching to
Salesforce Lightning, please visit https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000317946&type=1.

2.4.2.3 Enterprise Application Integration - SAP SuccessFactors

Document Self Service widget/Upload widget: Starting with release CE 22.2, this widget is
deprecated and is replaced by the File Upload widget in the platform. To avoid confusion the Upload
widget has been renamed to the Self Service widget.

SAP SuccessFactors Workspace Creation/Update (starting with CE 22.1): The previous job for
creating/updating Workspaces provided by versions CE 21.4 and earlier is deprecated and is no
longer being enhanced. Existing jobs of this type will continue to work but this feature will be
discontinued in future updates. For more information, see Customizing Guide: Migrating from
deprecated Workspace Creation/Update job to Central Workspace Creation/Update job.

Document Generation for Candidates (starting with CE 22.1): Document Generation for
candidates using the Employee Workspaces widget is no longer recommended. It is recommended
that you use the new Document Generation action from the Documents tab. For more information,
see User Guide: Generate documents with Extended ECM PowerDocs.

SAP SuccessFactors authentication change: By November 2023, SAP is going to enforce the use
of OAuth for integrations. Customers can only use the Central Workspace Update/Creation Job after
this date. In case the previous job for creating/updating Workspaces has been used, the migration
needs to be completed by this date. Extended ECM CE 21.4 or earlier will stop functioning in this
scenario.

2.4.2.4 System administration and operations

Owner ID: Setting is deprecated as of CE 20.4.

2.4.2.5 Extended ECM for Government

OCC (OpenText Capture Center): Extended ECM for Government and Extended ECM Add-on
Government contain Capture Center, that automatically captures and interprets paper documents,
using document and character recognition software. Capture Center is with version 16.5 end-of-life.
We strongly recommend reviewing the sustained maintenance on Knowledge OpenText. After

16 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

sustained maintenance ended, license remains active but no patches are provided anymore for
version 16.5. If you currently use Capture Center, please contact your account executive for
alternative options.

Document Presentment (DP) and Document Presentment Live (DP Live): Plan to deprecate
solutions for release CE 24.4, which are included in the products Extended ECM for Government and
SAP Extended ECM for Government by OpenText.

Freeze functionality deprecated: Freeze is covered by Closure (Z.d.A.) and for that reason will be
deprecated. Freeze will no longer be available on Documents or Workspaces.

2.4.2.6 Interactive Correspondence for Content Server

Interactive Correspondence for Content Server (ICCS), the Content Server module which provides
document generation with Exstream, is now deprecated. Instead, use Extended ECM PowerDocs,
which is the fully integrated method for document generation. OpenText intends to discontinue ICCS
by early 2025.

3.4 Special components and Extended ECM X-Plans
• Workflow Extensions: Using XML Workflow Extensions requires XML Workflow Extensions
licenses, Regulated Documents licenses, or Extended ECM X-Plan licenses.

• Electronic Signature: Using Electronic Signatures requires Electronic Signature licenses,

Regulated Documents licenses, or Extended ECM X-Plan licenses.

• Controlled Viewing and Printing: Using Controlled Viewing and Printing requires Regulated
Documents licenses or Extended ECM X-Plan licenses.

• Archive Center CMIS: Archive Center CMIS is not part of Content Suite Platform or Extended
ECM licenses. Using Archive Center CMIS requires additional licenses.

• Searchable PDF DocTool: The Searchable PDF DocTool allows rendering of scanned
documents to searchable PDF/A. The DocTool usage is strictly restricted to scan pipelines
together with Enterprise Scan, which means it is only for documents manually scanned in with
Enterprise Scan. Batch conversion of imported images is expressively not a legitimate use of the
software.

3.5 Content Suite Platform special features

• WebReports: WebReports functionality is not included in Content Suite Platform licenses. Using
WebReports requires Extended ECM, WebReports, or Content Intelligence licenses.

WebReports is deployed but not enabled by default. If your organization has licensed Extended
ECM, WebReports, or Content Intelligence you are entitled to enable WebReports and confirm
the number of licensed seats for your organization.

• Automatic Document Numbering: Automatic Document Numbering (ADN) and ADN Table Key
Lookup attributes are not included in Content Suite Platform licenses. Using Automatic Document
Numbering and ADN Table Key Lookup attributes requires Extended ECM licenses.

• Object Importer: Object Importer is not included in Content Suite Platform licenses. Using Object
Importer requires Extended ECM or Object Importer licenses.

• Remote Cache and Syndication: Remote Cache and Syndication are not included in Content
Suite Platform licenses. Using Remote Cache and Syndication requires Extended ECM, Remote
Cache, or Syndication licenses.

• Content Server SDK: Content Server SDK is not included in Content Suite Platform licenses.

3.6 SAP S/4HANA

3.6.1.1 Usage of OpenText™ Fiori Business Object Browser for SAP Solutions

OpenText Fiori Business Object Browser for SAP Solutions includes two add-ons of OpenText Vendor
Invoice Management for SAP Solutions to implement custom Business Object Browser Fiori apps to

26 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

show SAP Business Objects and its data, browse Business Objects, and bring content into context by
integrating the Business Documents Fiori App and Business Workspace Fiori App of Extended ECM.
You are allowed to use the customizing options and enhancements described in the OpenText Vendor
Invoice Management for SAP Solutions Customizing Guide for Foundation. The following usages
need extra licenses for OpenText Vendor Invoice Management for SAP:

• Solutions specifically designed for preconfigured processes such as incoming sales orders,
purchase order/purchase requisition dashboard, or incoming delivery.
• OpenText Vendor Invoice Management for SAP Solutions for:
o Import
o Capture
o Dispatch
o Process

Note
In case of doubt, the license audit report of Vendor Invoice Management can be
executed to find out if the framework is used in a way that needs extra licenses
for OpenText Vendor Invoice Management for SAP Solutions.

3.7 Add-On Government licensed features

• AppWorks Platform Dynamic Workflow: The usage right of the AppWorks Platform with
Extended ECM for Government is limited to the Dynamic Workflow. The compliant use of the
limited AppWorks Platform license can be checked by verifying the deployed solutions. For this,
the AppWorks solutions “OpenText Dynamic Workflow, OpenTextEntityIdentifyComponents, and
OpenTextInboxTaskManagement” must be deployed. Other Workflows except the deployed
solutions require a full-use AppWorks license.

• External REST API: The use of external REST API from AppWorks Platform (for example, to
integrate third-party applications) requires a full-use AppWorks license. Customers are licensed to
use the internal REST API from the AppWorks Integration Bridge (AIB) within Extended ECM for
Government (for example, to create WebReports).

Configuration changes to the AppWorks Dynamic Workflow such as adding additional task types
or additional attributes for tasks or Workflows can only be fulfilled through the OpenText
Professional Services team.

• Unlimited Citizen Access: Unlimited Citizen access is allowed as long as the minimum number
of full users have been licensed (for SAP reseller customers and since 21.2 for OpenText direct
customers with perpetual licenses). The Software Product may be used by citizens or residents of
an End User that qualifies as a Public Sector body but use by a citizen or resident is restricted to
use directly related to the governmental use authorized. Use by a citizen or resident in any other
capacity is excluded.

5.1 Private Help Server support for Chinese help files
Customers who install the OpenText Private Help Server (PHS), instead of using the default hosted
help, can download and view Extended ECM helps in supported localized languages. By default,
localized helps display without additional configuration. To support Traditional Chinese and Simplified
Chinese, a locale properties file is required. See Supporting long locale codes for localized helps in
the OpenText Help System: Private Help Server Administration Guide.

For information about how to install the PHS, see Set up the help environment in the OpenText
Extended ECM Installation Guide.

6 Supported environments and compatibility

The section provides details about which versions of other OpenText products are compatible with this
release of Extended ECM 23.4.

Caution

Operating systems, databases, browsers, and other platforms advance on

independent schedules. OpenText identifies the version tested where applicable,
and if a version is not identified, testing is typically performed on the platform
software available approximately one month before the release date of Extended
ECM.

OpenText relies on the platform vendor to maintain backwards compatibility. If

the platform vendor makes a change that affects compatibility, there may be a
period where the platform is not fully functional while OpenText makes
appropriate changes. Depending on the severity of the changes, an update to
the latest or next quarterly update of Extended ECM may be required.

Note
For the latest compatibility information for OpenText products, refer to the
Compatibility Matrix (https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/matrix) on OpenText My
Support.

Extended ECM is supported for use with the server operating systems listed in the previous sections.
The supported server operating systems may be installed on physical or virtual hosts, including cloud
environments such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Service (AWS), and Microsoft Azure.

Customers who choose to use a virtual environment are encouraged to select a virtualization platform
intended for production systems and that is known to be fully supported by the server operating
system vendor.

Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS are supported virtualization environments.

SAP SuccessFactors Document Management and Attachment Storage

support
Extended ECM leverages the SuccessFactors’s developed Document Management and Attachment
Storage interface. This interface is based on Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS).
Instead of using SuccessFactors’s built-in basic document storage, Extended ECM can be used as
the document storage repository. When new documents are uploaded, modified, or deleted in
SuccessFactors, the document is routed to Extended ECM and immediately reflected. Extended ECM
can receive uploaded documents from any SuccessFactors module that supports the Document
Management interface.

The CMIS attribute type Document Category is treated as an external document type. For this
release, the following table lists supported entities, Workspaces, and corresponding SAP
SuccessFactors Document Categories. Business administrators can create corresponding Extended
ECM document types (Classification) to control the storage logic of SAP SuccessFactors’s Document
Categories. Documents which are uploaded for SuccessFactors entities that do not have
corresponding Workspace definitions will be stored in the technical repository (CMIS volume) and can
only be accessed by Extended ECM System Administrators. Employees or HR Business partners can
only access these documents from the SAP SuccessFactors user interface. Please note that the
Document Categories might vary from SAP SuccessFactors tenant to tenant. The following table only
lists standard SuccessFactors Document Categories.

Business administrators can create corresponding attachment declarations to route SAP
SuccessFactors’s native documents into the right subfolder within corresponding Workspaces. Refer
to the Customizing Guide for more details about the document type rules and the attachment
declarations.

Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes 45

SAP SuccessFactors’ limitations
Known limitations of SAP SuccessFactors’ Document Management Interface:

• SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central:

o SAP SuccessFactors passes all documents immediately to
OpenText Employee Workspaces once they are uploaded from
SuccessFactors. This integration does not wait for or detect HR
document review approval Workflows in Employee Central.
• SAP SuccessFactors Recruitment:
o A resume/cover letter document deleted in Recruiting is not deleted
from Extended ECM’s document repository.
o SAP SuccessFactors Recruitment does not pass Business Object
information for Interview Notes or Interview Emails. These
documents will not be stored in the corresponding Candidate
Workspaces.
• SAP SuccessFactors Performance Management:
o If a manager uploads a document for an employee from the
performance management form, then it is incorrectly stored in the
managers’ Workspace.
• SAP SuccessFactors Mobile:
o Documents uploaded from SAP SuccessFactors Mobile App are not
stored in the corresponding Extended ECM Workspaces.
• SAP SuccessFactors Document Management Interface:
o Documents classified as “Migrated” or “Default” within SAP
SuccessFactors can only be routed into native central folders within
Workspaces.
o Uploading documents from SAP SuccessFactors may result in
performance issues. SAP SuccessFactors plans to improve the
upload time in a future update.
o SAP SuccessFactors Document Category transfer is currently
supported. SAP SuccessFactors Document Types/Document Sub-
Types of transfer are not supported.
o Documents uploaded via SuccessFactors OData API are not
supported by SAP SuccessFactors Document management CMIS
interface. Therefore, these documents will not be stored in the
corresponding Extended ECM Workspaces.
o Documents under the Extended ECM retention protection cannot be
deleted from SuccessFactors module portlets.
o Extended ECM Upload Control (such as MIME type control,
document approval Workflow) does not apply for uploading
documents from SuccessFactors module’s portlets.
o SuccessFactors Recruiting Candidate Profile Purge does not delete
documents from Extended ECM.

46 Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes

• No Support of “Instance refresh” and “Instance synchronization”: When
Extended ECM is configured as storage vendor in SAP SuccessFactors
document management interface, attachments stored in OpenText are not
transferred into the target instance. Refer to the detailed information in SAP
Help: Instance Refresh: Things to Know Before Refreshing the Target
Instance and OpenText Extended ECM for SAP SuccessFactors:
Customizing Guide.

These critical issues are known to the SAP SuccessFactors Document

Management Product Management Team. Customers intending to use Extended
ECM for SAP SuccessFactors as their document repository might be affected by
these critical defects and limitations. OpenText strongly recommends customers
use the SAP influence program for the latest update regarding the resolution of
these issues.

7 Installation and upgrade notes
This section provides additional installation and upgrade information, including related or third-party
product information and any required critical patches.

7.1 Content Server Installation notes

There are no special installation notes currently. See OpenText Extended ECM Installation Guide for
more details.

7.2 Installation Notes for Extended ECM for Salesforce

Before installing OpenText Extended ECM for Salesforce, review this Release Note document and
refer to the respective installation guides. See OpenText Extended ECM for Salesforce Installation
Guide for more details.

Note
OpenText™ Extended ECM for Salesforce® is not available for SAP customers.

Salesforce application managed package

The Salesforce application portion of Extended ECM for Salesforce comes in two parts: Extended
ECM Content Services for Salesforce (base service package) and Extended ECM for Salesforce
(application package). The application package has a dependency on the base service package and
thus must be installed in the following order to avoid dependency issues:

1. Sign in to your Salesforce organization as Administrator.

2. Install the packages one at a time in the following order using the following links.
Order Package ID Build Package name

1 04tHp000001dMhP 1.234 or OpenText Content Services for Salesforce

later (base services package)

2 04t3s000003T21fAAC 23.400 OpenText Extended ECM for Salesforce

or later (application package)

3. When prompted, select Install for Admins Only (default) and click Install.
4. When the installation is completed, click Done.

7.3 Upgrade Notes for Extended ECM for Salesforce

Before upgrading, review this Release Note document and refer to the respective OpenText Extended
ECM for Salesforce installation guides. See OpenText Extended ECM for Salesforce Installation
Guide for more details.

If your Salesforce organization is using the user licenses model (and not the Salesforce Site License
model) for the Extended ECM for Salesforce application, you will need to move user licenses to the
new managed package application. You will need to move the user licenses from the Extended ECM
Content Services for Salesforce package component in the Installed Packages section in the
Salesforce Setup to the new Extended ECM for Salesforce application. Failure to transition licenses to
the new Extended ECM for Salesforce application will give your users a license violation.

Salesforce Federated Search

The Salesforce Federated Search (SFFS) feature requiring a separate Tomcat application server
instance has been removed from the product. The new Federated Search functionality is now part of
the Salesforce module and is automatically installed with Extended ECM. Thus, the installation
process is much more streamlined and overhead has been reduced. Customers who wish to
continue using Salesforce Federated Search are advised to consult the respective product
documentation for following through with the configuration in Extended ECM administration.

7.4 Upgrade notes for Extended ECM for Engineering

This section provides additional installation and upgrade information, including related or third-party
product information and any required critical patches. For more information, see Extended ECM
Installation Guide.

Note
Extended ECM 23.4 is a rewrite of the existing Extended ECM for Engineering
16.3.x solution. Updates to this new software are released in parallel to the
updates of the existing Extended ECM 16.3.x. Both versions can co-exist in the
same Content Server instance. The existing instances of Extended ECM 16.3.x
cannot directly upgrade to Extended ECM 23.4 or subsequent Extended ECM CE
versions because the architecture and design differs from that of Extended ECM
16.3.x. However, the new projects can be configured to start using Extended ECM
23.4 capabilities.

Extended ECM 23.4 Release Notes 51

7.4.1.1 Upgrade to 22.2 or later

The XENG module folder in <OTHOME>/module is not deleted during the upgrade because the JAR
files in the folder are in use. To avoid issues with these JAR files, stop Content Server and delete
these folders manually after the upgrade.

7.4.1.2 Version-specific relationships

Extended ECM for Engineering CE has been enhanced to support version-specific relationships to
retain the relationships on older versions of the documents for auditing purposes.

A new relationship model with the following relationship types is implemented in the Extended ECM
for Engineering – CAD Manager module:

• Dynamic
• Static
• Node Specific

Records Management cross-references are supported only at the node level. Therefore, OpenText
recommends converting the existing CAD document relationships created using Records
Management cross-references to CAD document relationships.

To convert the relationships:

1. Navigate to Content Server Administration > Database Administration > Test or Repair Known
Database Issues > Convert RM Cross References to CAD References.
Note: Records Management cross-references relationships stored in the KIni table
are considered for conversion. OpenText recommends validating the entries in the
KIni table before initiating the conversion.

2. Run the following SQL Query to fetch the existing Records Management cross-reference
types from the database:
SELECT * FROM KIni WHERE IniSection = 'xengcrt' AND IniKeyword IN ('Dynamic',
'Static', 'Node Specific')

3. Modify the entries in the KIni table to add or drop any Records Management cross-reference
type from the conversion process.

7.5 Upgrade notes for Extended ECM Containers (Kubernetes)

When upgrading Extended ECM containers to a new PostgreSQL database server version (such as
from PostgreSQL 11 to PostgreSQL 13), do the following:

1. Export the Extended ECM databases from the existing server (such as PostgreSQL 11).
2. Import the database into a new database server (such as PostgreSQL 13).
