1. Methods for conduct of social service:
(a) Social Case Work : Use of established community by understanding
the individual in his total situation.
(b) Social Group Work : Helps individuals to utilise their fullest capacity for
their own welfare and for that of the group.
(c) Community Organisation : Attempts to help groups of individuals or
groups of agencies to work together for the welfare of the whole community.
2. Types of social work : Education, family welfare, medical, family planning,
provision of water, old age support system, employment, social assistance, social
security, housing, recreation, sports activities,
3. Contribution of NCC cadets : Any welfare activity that one can think of from
helping a blind man to cross to donating blood.
Rural development Initiatives
4. MGNREGA ( Mahathma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act).
(a) First ever law internationally to guarantee wage employment.
(b) Atleast 100 days of wage employment in a year.
(c) wage payment within 15 days
(d) Mandates 33 % of participation by women.
(e) emphasis on labour intensive work, prohibits use of contractor and
machinery.
5. PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana)
(a) Provide good all weather road to unconnected places.
(b) Inhabitations with population of more than 500 in plains and 250 in
hilly areas .
(c) 82% already connected by Dec 2017.
6. NSAP ( National Social assistance Programme)
(a) Launched in 1995-96
(b) Comprised of National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS), National
Family Benefit Scheme(NFBS) and National Maternity Benefit Scheme.
(c) On 1st Apr 2000 a new scheme was added called Annapurna Scheme: 10
kg of food grain to senior citizens not covered under NAOPS
7. Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana :
(a) All MPs will take out some part of their funds and use it to develop one
adopted village.
(b) Demand driven, inspired by society, based on people’s participation
(c) Model villages called “Adarsh Grams” developed
(d) Village to be chosen should not be MPs village or that of in-laws.
8. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana : Two components (PMAY -U) for urban areas and
PMAY G for gramin areas.
(a) Interest subsidy of 6.5% on housing loans for a period of 20 years.
(b) CLSS (Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme)
(c) Use of eco friendly technology
9. Jeevan Jyothi Bima Yojana
(a) Life insurance for financial future at low cost
(b) Age 18 to 50 years with bank account
(c) Insured’s family will get a sum of Rs 2 lacs
10. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY):
(a) National Mission to improve farm productivity
(b) Expand cultivable land
(c) Improve on farm water use efficiently to reduce wastage of water
(d) Introduce sustainable water conservation practice
Social Security Scheme
11. Atal pension Yojana (APY)
(a) To make population self reliant, for those who worked in non
pensionable scheme.
(b) For unorganised work force
(c) Pension of Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 at the age of 60 years.
(d) Govt will contribute 50 % of the contribution
(e) Must have bank account
(f) Min age 18 , max age 40
(g) Benefit available to spouse on insurers death.
12. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyothi Bima Yojana ( PMJJBY)
(a) Age 18 to 50 years
(b) Risk coverage of 2lacs in case of death.
(c) Rs 330 auto debited from account
(d) By LIC
13. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)
(a) Annual Life insurance in case of accident, partial or full disability
(b) 18 to 70 years
(c) Accidental death or full disability – Rs 2 Lakhs, Partial disability – Rs 1
lac
14. Role of NCC_ Blood donation, Tree Plantaion, Swatch Bharath Abhiyan,
Awareness programme

Swatch Bharath Anhiyan
1. Launched on 02 Oct 2014 at Rajghat
2. Aim to reduce/ eliminate open defecation. Plan was to make India Open
defecation free by 02 Oct 2019.

CHAPTER III
SOCIAL SERVICE AND COMMUNITY
1. Types of Social Security: Three types-:
(a) Social Insurance : Benefits of service in contribution to a insurance
programme.
(b) Services : Provided by government or designated agencies. Medical
care, financial support during unemployment, sickness or retirement
(c) Basic security : This security is provided irrespective of
participation in insurance programme. For instance assistance provided to
newly arrived refugees.

3. Female Foeticide : Desire for male child, unwanted pregnancy, dowry system,
poor medical ethics, inferior status of women.
4. Effects of female foeticide:
a. Lower sex ratio
b. Female trafficking
c. Increased rape and assault case
5. Measures to prevent it:
(a) License cancellation on gender reveal
(b) Heavy penalties on hospitals/ clinics/labs
(c) Action against parents
(d) Incentives to girl child
(e) Rights for women
(f) Awareness

6. Dowry : causes:
(a) Economic : Poverty, inheritance system
(b) Social : Patriarchal system
(c) Religious : Prevalent in all religions
(d) Unemployment : Unemployed men taking dowry to enhance their
status
(e) Parental Compulsions : For ggod match, huge dowry
7. Ways to prevent dowry
(a) Strict Laws
(b) Awareness
(c) Respect women’s rights and privileges
(d) Encourage women to fight for rights
(e) Economic independence of women
8. Drug abuse: Drug is substance consumed not approved or prescribed by
medical professional. Continuous use makes one addict. Ways to prevent :
(a) Awareness through media
(b) Parental care and supervision
(c) Spirituality
(d) Strict Law enforcement
9. HIV/AIDS : Human Immuno Deficiency Virus/ Acquired Immune deficiency
Syndrome. Spread through :
(a) Sex
(b) Blood transfusion
(c) Sharing needles for drug use
(d) Mother to child
(e) Skin Piercing
(f) Oral Route
Social Service Initiatives
10. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao : Aims to better the female sex ratio in the country
through campaigns, discussion and by focus on gender critical district and
cities
11. MISSION INDRADHANUSH : Aims for 90% full immunisation coverage
India against EIGHT PREVENTABLE DISEASES viz. Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus,
Polio, Measles , Child tuberculosis, Hepatitis B& Meningitis and Pneumonia caused
by Haemophilius Influenza type B. Also against Rotavirus Diarrhoea and Japanese
Encephalitis
12. Digital India :To ensure services available electronically by improved online
infrastructure. Launched on 01 Jul 2015.
(a) MyGov.in is a platform to share inputs on matters of policy and
governance.
(b) UMANG (Unified Mobile Application in New Age Governance) : All in One
Secure, multi lingual, multi service app for accessing over 1200 central and
state government services.
(c) Swacchh Bharath Mission (SBM) : Also an app
(d) Digital signature of documents
(e) e Hospital Application : Onlien registration, payment of
fees ,appointment etc
(f) Digital Attendance : attendance.gov.in to keep record of attendance of
employees on real time basis
(g) Facilities to digitally empower citizens :
(i) Digital Locker : Store important documents. Uses authenticity
services provided by Aadhar.
(ii) BPOs : govt planning to create 28000 seats of BPOs in various
states
(iii) E sampark Vernacular service : Presently email service only in
English. To connect rural India electronically email giants like G Mail,
Rediff etc told to provide vernacular email addresses
13. Waste Management : Four types _ Solid ( Household waste, Industrial waste,
Biomedical and electronic), Liquid ( Sewer lines, chemical), Radioactive and Municipal

NEW INITIATIVES
1. Aadhar : Unique number issued by UIDAI ( Unique Identification Authority of
India). Following are the features :
(a) Uniqueness : Achieved through demographic and Biometric de
duplication( Checks with the data already existing with UIDAI.
