Interschool competition- Formal

debate. Gr.6,7&8
A debate provides young pupils with the implementation of a sense of responsibility and
knowledge. Formal debates will provide pupils with new vocabulary and will also
motivate them to research and gain knowledge with the resources they’re provided with.

Our school could conduct an interschool debate competition for the seniors of the school to
gather good vocabulary and new information.

Plan and setting

The topic of the debate: Should animal testing be banned?

The participants of the debate will be selected based on their public speaking skills. Those
who are interested to join the debate will have their names listed down and they will prepare
a 2-minute speech against or for the topic. The best 4 from each senior grade will be chosen
to participate in the debate. There will also be one judge which will be decided by the
principal and director.

There will be 3 rounds of the debate.

In the first round, There will be 6 students for the topic and 6 students against the topic this
round will last for 15 minutes. In the last 2 minutes, both teams need to make their
conclusion.

In the second round, Both sides will have to remove 3 students and move on with the
argument this round will last for 12 minutes the last 1 minute will be divided equally for both
sides to make their conclusion.
In the third round, each side will have no more than one representative, and they will have 6
minutes (3 minutes for each side) to present their conclusions only.

Rules and regulations


1. No using inappropriate or informal language during the debate

1. ONLY ENGLISH shall be used to communicate

1. Both sides must not continue with their points after the time limit provided to them has
come to an end.

1. Permission from the judge is required to speak

1. A formal tone must be maintained at all times

1. The participant must not speak out of turn
