Saying Numbers: Writing and Saying Large Numbers

1. Hundreds (100–999)
 100 = One hundred
 250 = Two hundred and fifty
 999 = Nine hundred and ninety-nine
👉 Note: When saying numbers between 100 and 999, say the hundred number first, then the
rest.

2. Thousands (1,000–999,999)
 1,000 = One thousand
 5,600 = Five thousand six hundred
 23,450 = Twenty-three thousand four hundred and fifty
 999,999 = Nine hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine
👉 Note: When saying numbers in thousands, say the thousands first, then the hundreds and
smaller numbers.

3. Millions (1,000,000 and above)


 1,000,000 = One million
 3,450,000 = Three million four hundred and fifty thousand
 8,900,000 = Eight million nine hundred thousand
👉 Note: Just like with thousands, say the millions first, then the thousands and hundreds.

Special Notes
 Always say the larger number first (millions, thousands, hundreds), then the smaller
numbers.
 Use “and” only when there is a smaller number after hundreds.
 When saying large numbers, DO NOT make thousand, million, billion, trillion, etc.
plural.
