different levels of technical skills.
Most of these tools are ready to use and are free. Most AI tools for technical writing are
still in development but they hold the capacity to revolutionize the area of technical
writing. Overall, AI tools have the potential to make technical writers more efficient and
effective in their work. However, it is important to note that AI tools are not a
replacement for human technical writers.

7
AI STRENGTHS IN MODERN TECHNICAL WRITING
• The increased use of automated writing assistance: As AI tools become more
sophisticated, the are able to provide more comprehensive feedback on writing. This
could lead to a greater reliance on automated writing assistance tools by both students
and professional writers.
• The development of new forms of writing:
AI could be used to develop new forms of writing that are not currently possible
with human writers. For example, AI could be used to generate personalized learning
materials
• The changing role of the writer: As AI takes on more of the tasks involved in
writing, the role of the writer may change. Writers may need to focus on more high-level
tasks such as developing ideas, conducting research, and synthesizing information.
The authors conclude that AI has the potential to transform the way that academic and
technical documents are written. They suggest that writers need to be aware of the

THREATS OF AI IN MODERN TECHNICAL WRITING
AI’s growth has also increased dependence and over-reliance in many industries
including technical writing. While AI has a lot of potentials, it also poses a lot of threats
to the technical writing profession.
• Overreliance on AI:
With the growth of AI tools, there is a high risk of overreliance. This overreliance
can lead to a decline in the creativity and insight of academic writers. This led to a
decline in the quality of technical writers over the decade.

• Bias in AI-Written Content:

AI models are only as unbiased as the data they are trained on. There's a risk that AI
content might develop biases present in their training data.

• Data Security Concerns:

The storage of sensitive technical data within AI systems raises data security concerns.
Protecting proprietary and confidential information is crucial which demands rigorous
security and privacy measures.

• Job Displacement:
One of the most significant threats posed by AI to technical writers is the potential for job
displacement. As AI becomes more sophisticated, it is capable of automating many of the
tasks that are currently performed by human technical writers. For example, AI can be
used to generate technical documentation from structured data, translate technical
documentation into multiple languages, and edit and even reference technical papers. As
AI becomes more widely adopted, some technical writers will likely be replaced by these
Artificial Intelligence tools

• Ethical concerns: The use of AI in technical writing also raises several ethical concerns.
For example, it is important to consider who is responsible for the content that is
generated by AI. If an AI model generates inaccurate or misleading information, who is
liable? Additionally, it is important to consider the potential for bias in AI models. If an
AI model is trained on biased data, it is likely to generate biased content.
