Assignment of Policy
Assignment of Policy
Institute of Education,
University of Sargodha
2
Introduction: -
I am a student of MPhil Education, 1st semester, at the Institute of Education, University
of Sargodha. We are studying five courses this semester. One of our courses is Policy Studies,
taught by Dr. Shaista Khalid. At the end of this course, Ma’am assigned us the task of creating a
policy on an issue related to our institute. The implementation of this policy should result in
making the teaching and learning process more effective. For this purpose, I chose a problem from
the area of Teaching Methodologies.
Problem Identification: -
In our institute, and I believe across Pakistan, teachers primarily use traditional teaching
methods regardless of the subject. However, I believe that we should adopt appropriate teaching
methods suited to specific subjects. This approach can help achieve our objectives and make
students better critical thinkers and problem solvers.
After observing this issue firsthand, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to create a
policy that could make a real difference. To confirm my suspicions, I red related literature and
collected data via creating a simple online survey using Google Forms. The survey asked five key
questions:
1. Do you think innovative teaching methods make learning more engaging?
2. Would you prefer more practical or hands-on activities instead of lectures?
3. Do you feel that using technology (like videos, apps, or simulations) in teaching improves your
understanding of the subject?
4. Would you like more group discussions or collaborative projects as part of your
learning?
5. Do you think replacing some traditional methods with innovative ones will make
learning more enjoyable?
I shared the survey with undergraduate students, seeking their honest feedback. The
response was clear: the overwhelming majority of students believe that teaching methods should
be more innovative and engaging. The students' feedback inspired me to work on improving
teaching methods and making them more innovative
Introducing my Variables: -
1. Traditional Teaching Methods:
Traditional teaching methods are characterized by face-to-face classroom interactions, with
a strong emphasis on direct instruction and lecture-based delivery (Salmon, 2002; Roy, 2002).
These methods primarily focus on achieving academic excellence and standardized knowledge
transfer (Biggs, 1999). However, they often lack flexibility in addressing diverse learner needs and
adapting to unforeseen crises, such as the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During
this period, traditional classroom settings became impractical due to health risks, highlighting the
need for alternative approaches (Aboagye et al., 2020; Mukhtar et al., 2020). Furthermore,
3
traditional methods are often limited in fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world
problem-solving skills.
2. Innovative Teaching Methods:
n contrast, innovative teaching methods integrate digital tools and e-learning platforms to
enhance accessibility and engagement, focusing on fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and
lifelong learning (Roy, 2002; Mwasalwiba, 2010). These methods adopt competency-based
education and inclusive practices to cater to diverse learner needs (Salmon, 2002). The use of
technology has transformed education, especially during crises, by ensuring continuity and
creating personalized, flexible, and interactive learning experiences (Mukhtar et al., 2020).
Innovative approaches also emphasize the development of skills beyond academics, such as
problem-solving and teamwork, while adapting educational frameworks to meet changing societal
demands (Biggs, 1999; Mwasalwiba, 2010). Despite the advantages of e-learning, such as
increased accessibility and flexibility, challenges remain, including resource limitations and
resistance from educators and students (Aboagye et al., 2020; Mukhtar et al., 2020). These
distinctions illustrate the shift from traditional to innovative methods, underscoring the
transformative role of technology and adaptive strategies in modern education.

2. Appeal Process: Decisions made by the committee can be appealed to the institution's
administration.
Implementation Framework
1. Training for Faculty: Organize workshops, seminars, and certification programs for faculty
on innovative teaching strategies and tools. Set up peer mentoring systems to enable
experienced faculty to guide others.
2. Curriculum Redesign: Revise course syllabi to include diverse teaching strategies and
reduce traditional lecture hours. Incorporate assessments that evaluate critical thinking,
creativity, and application-based learning.
3. Resource Allocation: Invest in technology, digital tools, and infrastructure to support
innovative teaching practices. Provide funding for faculty to develop new learning
materials and access advanced teaching resources.
4. Student Orientation: Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize students with the
innovative teaching methods and expectations. Encourage students to provide feedback on
teaching methods to ensure continuous improvement.
5. Assessment and Feedback: Develop new assessment formats that align with active and
experiential learning. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of innovative teaching practices
through student feedback, academic performance, and faculty reviews.
Resources
Specify resources required:
1. Technological tools (smart classrooms, learning management systems).
2. Training programs for faculty.
3. Budget allocation for implementation.
Monitoring and Review
• Establish a committee to monitor the adoption and effectiveness of innovative teaching
practices.
• Conduct annual reviews of teaching methodologies, with recommendations for continuous
improvement.
By implementing this policy, the institution aims to prepare students with skills and knowledge
that extend beyond textbooks, equipping them for success in dynamic, real-world environments,
that prepares undergraduate students for success in the 21st century.
