Measurement
I. Definition:
Measurement is a system to measure the height, weight, capacity or
even amount of certain objects.

Units of measurement

Standard unit Non-standard unit


• millimetre handspan
• centimetre footspan
• metre finger width
• gram pace
• kilogram cubit
• litre thread (or) rope
• millilitre

Standard units of measurement


1 m = 100 cm
1 kg = 1000g
1 l = 1000 ml

II. Measurement of Length


• Longer things - metre (m)
• Smaller things - centimetre (cm)
III. Measurement of Mass or Weight
• Heavier objects - kilogram (kg)
• Light objects - gram (g)

IV. Measurement of Capacity


• Capacity of large quantity - litre (l)
• Capacity of small quantity - mililitre(ml)

V. Conversation of units

1. 6m = 600 cm
2. 700 cm = 7m
3. 5000 g = 5 kg
4. 9 kg = 9000 kg
5. 4000 ml = 4l
6. 2l = 2000 ml

VI. Standard units of measurement.

1. Length – metre (m)


2. Weight – kilogram (kg)
3. Capacity – litre (l)
