IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing A. Elicit
previous lesson or 1.Drill
presenting the new
lesson.
 The class will be divided into two groups. “A foot and handprint game”
will be set up on the floor leading to an area where two pieces of cardboard
are placed at the finish line. They will write on the cardboard their answers,
whether it is “ERUPTION” or “NOT VOLCANIC”
 When a picture is shown on the screen, the first player from each group will
follow the foot and handprint path using their hands and feet. They must
shout the answer aloud and show the cardboard to the class.
 The group with the most points at the end wins the game
2. Unlock

“SAY THE COLOR NOT THE WORD”

 Students will take turns saying the color that corresponds to the word.
 If the student says the correct color corresponding to the word, the game
continues. If the student says the wrong color, they must unlock the word
by unscrambling the jumbled letters to reveal the word.

1. (lovonac) opening of earth’s crust where lava and volcanic materials are
ejected
2. (retarc) a steep-walled depression at the peak of the volcano
3. (canicvol nevt) a cylindrical channel that connects the crater to the magma
chamber
4. (lacdera) formed when the summit of the volcano collapses
5. (aval) molten rock that flows on the surface of a volcano

3. Review
(The teacher will have a quick review of the previous lesson before
proceeding to the new topic.)

1. What is an earthquake?
2. What agency of the government monitors earthquakes?
3. How do we measure the strength of an earthquakes?
4. Where do earthquakes usually happen?

B. Engagement
“PICTURE ANALYSIS”

PROCESSING QUESTIONS:
1. What can you say on the pictures?
2. Are you familiar of a volcano?
3. Can you tell me where is volcano in these two pictures?
4. What are the volcanoes that you know in our country?

B. Establishing The teacher will introduce the topic by explaining that the students will learn about
Purpose of the lesson the different types of volcanoes, and their characteristics. Emphasize the
importance of understanding volcanic phenomena to help communities prepare for
and mitigate the effects of volcanic eruptions. Additionally, the students will be
tasked to create a visual representation to compare and contrast.

C. Presenting  The teacher will present a video about the types of volcanoes and will ask
examples/ questions afterward.

3. What did you notice about the shapes of the volcanoes in the video?
4. Why do people visit volcanoes despite the risks?

Practicing New “WORKING IN A TEAM!”
Skills # 1 Ech group will be given a specific task to accomplish. The students will follow
the group activity, working together to achieve their goal.

GUIDELINES FOR THE ACTIVITY:

 Follow the directions accurately
 Respect each others ideas and opinions
 Be open to compromise
 Be happy and cooperative in your group
 Ask help if needed
 Finish your work on time

GROUP 1: EARTHQUAKE
Directions: Based on the picture you have, describe the composite volcano by
creating a concept map
GROUP 2: VOLCANO
Directions: Based on the picture you have, describe the cinder cone volcano using
a volcanic diagram.
GROUP 3: WEATHER
Directions: Based on the pictures you have, describe the shield volcano by
creating a mind map.
GROUP 4: SOLAR SYSTEM
Directions: Read each clue carefully and decide whether it describes an active,
dormant, or extinct volcano, then place it under the correct category.

Skills # 2  The teacher should make sure that the discussion is interactive, wherein
the learners are free to ask questions to clarify what they don’t understand.

A volcano is an opening in Earth’s crust where lava,

pyroclasts, and gases are ejected onto the surface
during eruptions. The most prominent prominent part of
the volcano is the cone.

KINDS OF VOLCANOES

1. SHIELD VOLCANO

A shield volcano has a wide based with gentle sloping sides.

The cone is made up purely of lava that has poured out and
solidified during a mild or quiet eruption.

2. CINDER CONE VOLCANO

A cinder cone is built almost entirely of loose fragments called cinders (pyroclasts
and tephra)
3. COMPOSITE VOLCANO OR STRATOVOLCANO

Composite volcanoes are composed of alternating

layers of lava and cinders (pyroclasts)

B. ACCORDING TO ACTIVITY
1. ACTIVE VOLCANO – a volcano is considered active if it is currently erupting or
showing regular signs of activity like earthquake activities and significant gas
emissions.

2. DORMANT VOLCANO – Dormant volcanoes are those that have currently

erupted and then have entered a long period of inactivity.

3. EXTINCT VOLCANO – Extinct volcanoes are those that have not shown signs of
activity for a long period of time.

F. Developing GROUP PRESENTATION

mastery Each group will receive an envelope containing their tasks.
(Leads to Formative
Assessment 3) GROUP 1: EARTHQUAKE
 Draw a composite type of volcano
 Label a brief description about the type of volcano assigned to your group.
 List at least 3 composite volcanoes found in the Philippines

GROUP 2: VOLCANO
 Draw a shield type of volcano
 Label a brief description about the type of volcano assigned to your group
 List at least 3 types of shield volcanoes found in the Philippines

GROUP 3: WEATHER
 Draw a cinder cone types of volcanoes
 Label a brief description about the type of volcano assigned to your group
 List at least 3 types of shield volcanoes found in the Philippines

GROUP 4: SOLAR SYSTEM

 Compare and contrast the different types of volcanoes
 Discuss their impact on the earths surface
 Present your findings using a Venn Diagram.
