Grade 8 lesson plan Date: 12-06-19

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students are able to:

a. Define Electron Configuration,
b. Write the proper arrangement of electron of an atom,
c. Value the importance of electron configuration towards human life.

II. Materials: Visual aid, pictures of elements, periodic table and others
Reference: Science book and

III. Topic: Electron Configuration

IV. Method: Developmental method
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparation
a. Drill
b. Review
c. Motivation
(Showing a pictures of Hydrogen,
Oxygen, Carbon and other elements on the
periodic table)
What are these class?
Anybody from the class, yes Jea? Elements sir
Very good, these are elements.
What have you seen in each element on
the board class? Yes Cherry? There is atomic number and symbols
Do you know class that there is a
proper distribution of electrons of an atom in
molecular orbitals? No sir

B. Presentation
If that is the case, just lend me your
eyes and ears as we go along with the topic
today which is Electron Configuration.
Everybody read!!!! Electron Configuration

C. Discussion/ Generalization
Do you have any idea, what is electron
configuration? Anybody from the class? Yes
Emma? Arrangement sir.
Yes you have a good idea.
Okay, Electron configuration in atomic
physics and quantum chemistry, it is the
distribution of electrons of an atom in
molecular orbitals.
Did you get me class? Yes sir.
And now, give me the meaning of
electron configuration in your own words.
Yes Viol? Distribution of Electrons
Very good!
For the better understanding what is
electron configuration, I have here the
definition. Everybody read!!! Electron Configuration- The way the
electrons of an atom are distributed in the
various energy levels of electron shell.
Is there any question about the meaning
of electron configuration? None sir
Okay very good. And now I will teach
you on how to write the proper distribution of
electrons of an atom and we need to know
first the Aufgau rule as I show you a model of
it.

But before that, I will introduce to you

first, what is the Aufgau rule. Aufgau word
comes from the german which means “built-
up” or construction just like constructing a
building, it occupy first the lowest possible
energy level of orbitals. Did you get me class? Yes sir
And now I will show you periodic table
with different blocks.

As what you have seen, periodic table

has different blocks. The s-block, the d-block,
the p-block and the f-block. The s-block hold
utmost 2 electrons, d-block hold utmost 10
electron, p-block hold utmost 6 electrons and
the f-block hold utmost 14 electrons.
Did you get me class? Yes sir
For example
1. Li3= 1s2, 2s1
2. Be4= 1s2, 2s2

Who wants to volunteer on the board,

yes anyone..
Did you get me now class on how to
distribute the electrons of an atom? Yes sir
Is there any question regarding to our
topic today? None sir
Since you don’t have any questions. I
have a question to you.
Values Integration

Since we discussed already the different

blocks of periodic table and how it’s
organized. How would you relate our lesson
to your life? Or how will you organize your
life being a student to become a productive (Students answered what is being asked.)
one?
. Like the organized elements on the
periodic table. We should also organize
ourselves to become more productive and by
keeping organized we will save time and will
have more time to work on important tasks.
Is there any question regarding to our None so far sir
topic today?

D. Application
This time we will have an activity. First
I will divide you into three groups. This
activity is what we called “color me”
Directions: Put a color on the different blocks.
Green for the s-block, color yellow for the d-
block, blue for the p-block and red for the f-
block. After coloring the activity, you have to
choose one representative to report your work
according to the given question.

Hint/Guide questions:
1. Locate the different blocks on the
periodic table and color it according to
the given instructions
2. How any electrons that each block
holds?

Rubrics:
Cleanliness --- 30pts
Accuracy --- 30pts
Mastery and fluency --- 40pts
Total --- 100pts
Directions: Write the electron configuration
V. Evaluation or Assessment of the following.

1. Helium / He2
2. Oxygen / O8
3. Carbon / C6
4. Neon / Ne10
5. Hydrogen / H1

VI. Assignment
Directions: Write the proper electron
configuration of the following.

1. Cl17
2. Na11
3. F10
