Read the passage below to answer the following


questions.
Once upon a time, all birds and other animals lived in the
same community. They were very different, but they
usually worked together happily. They all decided to dig a
well because they wanted to get clean water. The water
available at that time was from a dirty muddy pool.

Elephant, Hare, Rhino, Giraffe and Rat went to dig on


Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. On the first Monday
they told Bat, ‘Come and dig the well with us.’

Bat was lazy and selfish. She did not want to join in the
work her neighbours were doing. “I won’t come, Bat said.
‘I am not like you. Can’t you see you walk on four legs
while I have wings that I use to fly?’ She laughed as she
flew away. The same thing happened on Wednesday and
Friday.

Cock, Ostrich,Hawk,Crow and Dove dug on Tuesdays,


Thursdays and Saturdays. On the first Tuesday they
called Bat. ‘It’s now the turn for all birds to dig the well.
Come, let’s go and do it.’

‘Get lost!’ said Bat proudly. ‘I am not like you. I give birth
to real bats, unlike you who only lay eggs. Leave me
alone.’
