Recycled ASPHALT Pavement

The document outlines the laboratory steps for preparing Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), including processes such as inspecting, managing RAP, and determining gradation and asphalt content. It details methods for RAP binder recovery and properties, as well as guidelines for selecting the amount of RAP and blending mix design. Recommendations for heating materials and achieving a homogeneous mix are also provided, along with sources for further information.

Recommendation

Heating of RAP, Virgin Agg. and Virgin bitumen :

• RAP Material : 2-3 Hrs at 110C°

• Virgin Aggregate: Should be heated above the mixing Temp. 0.5C°
for every percent of RAP used in the mix
• Virgin Asphalt : Mixing Temp. (Not to be Adjusted).
• Add the virgin Agg. And then add the hot virgin binder and mix it
well to go to homogeneous asphalt mix and to achieve complete
coating of the Agg.
• Once the batching and mixing process is complete the mix design
procedure is unchanged (as is used for virgin materials)
