MOTION-5

We would like to give a motion for a moderated caucus total time being ten
minutes, each speaker time being one minute to discuss about goal of the world free
of nuclear weapons

The goal of achieving a world free of nuclear weapons is rooted in the belief that
eliminating these weapons would contribute to global peace, security, and
stability. Here are some key objectives and reasons behind this goal:
• Preventing Catastrophic Consequences: Nuclear weapons have the
potential to cause unimaginable destruction and loss of life. The goal is to
prevent the catastrophic consequences of nuclear warfare, including the immediate
impact of the explosions and the long-term effects of radiation.
• Enhancing Global Security: The presence of nuclear weapons introduces a
constant risk of their use, either intentionally or accidentally. By eliminating
these weapons, the world aims to enhance global security, reduce the risk of
nuclear conflicts, and promote a more stable international environment.
• Mitigating Humanitarian Consequences: A world without nuclear weapons
would eliminate the humanitarian consequences associated with their use, including
the devastating impact on civilian populations, the environment, and future
generations. Efforts to promote disarmament are often framed in the context of
humanitarian concerns.
• Promoting Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution: A world free of nuclear
weapons encourages nations to rely on diplomatic means and peaceful negotiations to
resolve conflicts. Without the threat of nuclear retaliation, diplomatic solutions
become more viable and attractive, fostering a culture of dialogue and compromise.
• Nuclear Non-Proliferation: Achieving nuclear disarmament is closely
linked to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons to additional countries. By
leading the way in disarmament, nuclear-armed states can set an example and
reinforce the commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) principles.
• Resource Redistribution: The immense financial and technological
resources devoted to maintaining and modernizing nuclear arsenals could be
redirected toward addressing pressing global challenges such as poverty, climate
change, and healthcare. This reallocation of resources could contribute to the
well-being of humanity.
• Building Trust: Progress toward a world without nuclear weapons fosters
trust among nations. It helps build confidence that countries are committed to the
principles of disarmament and are working together to create a safer world for all.
Achieving a world free of nuclear weapons is a complex and challenging task that
requires sustained international cooperation, diplomacy, and commitment from all
nations. Various treaties, agreements, and disarmament initiatives aim to make
progress toward this goal and contribute to a more secure and peaceful global
landscape.
