The document provides guidelines for saving a wavelet after quality control (QC) and defines various results related to wavelet description, including Delay, PEP, Cross Correlation, NMSE, and Phase error. It explains the significance of these metrics in assessing the predictability and accuracy of seismic traces. Additionally, it outlines input parameters and output quality control guidelines for the analysis process.

Once the wavelet has been QC’d it can be saved by entering a wavelet name and
clicking the ‘Save’ button.

Definitions of the ‘Results’ in Wavelet Description:

ƒ Delay – time difference between synthetic trace and the actual seismic at the optimal
or chosen location.
ƒ PEP - Proportion of Energy Predicted (predictability for short) in the seismic trace that
can be predicted from the log reflectivity over the whole seismic bandwidth. The
better the seismic bandwidth the better will be the predictability. PEP = 1 (energy in
the residuals/trace energy) where the residuals are the difference between the
seismic trace and its matched or filtered reflectivity and the energy of a segment of a
time series is its sum of squares.
ƒ Cross Correlation – correlation coefficient between actual trace and synthetic trace.
ƒ NMSE – Normalised Mean Square Error, sum of actual signal – sum of estimated
synthetic squared, divide by the sum of actual signal squared.
ƒ Phase error – phase error between actual seismic and generated synthetic trace
ƒ b – analysis bandwidth (Hz)
ƒ B – maximum effective frequency (Hz)
ƒ bT – spectral smoothing, analysis bandwidth x time window
ƒ b/B – analysis bandwidth / maximum effective frequency
