G9-CH3-M6-NOTES

The mole concept defines one mole as the quantity of a substance that has a mass equal to its atomic or molecular mass in grams, corresponding to Avogadro's constant of 6.022 × 10^23 particles. For atoms, one mole corresponds to its gram atomic mass, while for molecules, it corresponds to its gram molecular mass. The relationship between the number of moles, total number of particles, and Avogadro's number is expressed by the formula n = N/NA.

G9-CH3-M17-NOTES

Mole Concept:

It is defined as one mole of any species (atom, molecules, ions or particles) is that
quantity in number having a mass equal to its atomic or molecular mass in grams.
1 mole = 6.022 × 1023 in number

This number is called Avogadro’s constant.

Mole of Atoms-

One Mole of an atom of an Element has mass equal to the gram atomic mass of
that element.
Eg: 1Mole of O atoms = 16g of Oxygen atoms
16g Oxygen atoms has 6.022 × 1023 O atoms in it.

Mole of Molecules-

One Mole of any molecule has mass equal to the gram molecular mass of that
molecule.
Eg: 1 mole of H2O = 18g of H2O
18g of H2O of water has 6.022 × 1023 water molecules in it.

Mole Represents-
Number of moles (n) = Total number of Particles
Avogadro’s number

n = N/ NA

Therefore, m/M = N/ NA
