PAST PERFECT

El past perfect (pasado perfecto) en inglés se utiliza para hablar de una acción que ocurrió
antes de otra acción en el pasado. Se forma con el verbo auxiliar had (que es el mismo
para todas las personas) seguido del participio pasado del verbo principal.

Estructura del Past Perfect

1. Afirmativa:
Sujeto + had + participio pasado + complemento.
Ejemplo:
o She had finished her homework before dinner.
(Ella había terminado su tarea antes de la cena.)
2. Negativa:
Sujeto + had not (hadn’t) + participio pasado + complemento.
Ejemplo:
o They had not arrived when the meeting started.
(No habían llegado cuando empezó la reunión.)
3. Interrogativa:
Had + sujeto + participio pasado + complemento?
Ejemplo:
o Had he studied for the test before taking it?
(¿Había estudiado para el examen antes de presentarlo?)

Cuándo usar el Past Perfect

 Para hablar de una acción que ocurrió antes de otra acción en el pasado.
Ejemplo:
o By the time I arrived, the movie had already started.
(Para cuando llegué, la película ya había empezado.)
 En reportes o narraciones para mostrar secuencia.
Ejemplo:
o She told me she had visited Paris twice.
(Ella me dijo que había visitado París dos veces.)
