Geometric Constructions

The document outlines geometric constructions using tools such as a ruler, set square, compasses, and protractor. It describes various polygons, methods for constructing lines and triangles, and principles of perpendicular and parallel lines. Additionally, it provides examples of specific constructions, including bisectors and angles.

Geometric Constructions

The tool of construction

1) Ruler 2) Set square

3) Compasses 4) Protractor

The name of polygons

1) Isosceles triangle 2) Equilateral triangle

3) Right-angled triangle 4) Parallelogram

5) Square 6) Rectangle
A straight edge is a construction instrument with straight edges.

Geometrical construction are precise drawings of geometrical figures

which satisfy certain conditions, using only a straight edge and a pair of
compasses
Example
Construct a line MN of 6 cm by compasses.

Construct a triangle KLM with sides KL = 6 cm, LM = 5 cm and

KM = 3 cm.
Construct a triangle with lines 8 cm, 4 cm and 3 cm. If you can’t
make it, you must explain.

Construct a triangle with lines 7 cm, 5 cm and 3 cm If you can’t

make it, you must explain.
Constructing perpendicular lines
When a line makes an angle of 90o with another line, it is known as
perpendicular to the line.

When a line divides another line into two equal parts, it is known as a
bisector of the line.

When a line bisector another line at 90o, it is known as the

perpendicular bisector of the line.
Example
Construction of the perpendicular bisector of line MN.

Construction of the perpendicular to the line MN passing through

point P.
Construction of the perpendicular to line MN passing through
point Q.

Construction 60-degree and 120-degree

Construction of the bisector of 60-degree and 120-degree

Construction a triangle ABC with AB = 2.5 cm, ∠𝐴𝐵𝐶 = 60𝑜 and

∠𝐶𝐴𝐵 = 30𝑜
Construction a triangle ABC with AC = 2 cm, AB = 4 cm and
∠𝐶𝐴𝐵 = 105𝑜

Parallel lines are lines that never meet even when extended infinitely
Example
Construct a line passing through
a which is parallel to the line PQ.
Construct a parallelogram ABCD with AB = 2.5 cm, AD = 1.5 cm
and ∠𝐷𝐴𝐵 = 60𝑜
