IV. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. PRELIMINARIES

 Prayer

Before we start our lesson, may I request (Students stand up and bow their head)
everyone to stand up and put our self to
the holy present of the Lord.

“________” can you lead the prayer? (Students lead the prayer)

Thank you for solemn prayer

 Greetings/Acknowledgement
Good morning, Sir Rodel!
Good morning class!
We’re good Sir.
How are you today class?

That’s great!

 Checking of Attendance
May I know if there’s a absent for today None sir Rodel!
lesson?

Okay very good keep it up!

 Setting of Classroom standard

Classroom Rules

Class, you are expected to learn the very

important procedures, and these are the rules that
you need to follow:

Yes, Sir
Do you understand class?

Okay class

B. Review of the previous lesson

Yesterday we discussed about the common wire
splices and joints., right?

 What are the 2 types of common wire Sir!

splices again class? Rat tail or pig tail
Aerial tap

 Absolutely! Sir!
Knotted tap sir!
This is used where the tap wire is under
heavy tensile stress.

Excellent class!

C. MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY
Alright class, before we start our (The students will raise their hand and
discussion let us have an activity. perform the activity.)
We have Spin the wheel and answer
the question. When the wheel stops,
the group it lands on is chosen to Yes, sir Rodel!
answer the question. If the group
answers correctly, they may earn a points

Who wants to spin the wheel? Sir!

ENGAGE

(Expected answer)

1. (______________) This kind of joint 1. Rat tail or Pig tail

is commonly used to join two or more
conductors inside the junction box.

2. (___________) This method of 2. Y- splice

wrapping is generally used on small
cables because the strands are
flexible, and all can be wrapped in
one operation.

3. (__________) This is used where the 3. Knotted tap

tap wire is under heavy tensile stress.

4. (_________) This is used where the 4. Plain tap joint

tap wire is under considerable tensile
stress circuit.

5. (_________) This is used as a 5. Aerial tap

temporary tap usually done in
constructions sites. The easy twist
will facilitate tap wire movement
6. (_______) This is a two-tap wire
turned simultaneously and is used 6. Duplex cross joint
where the two-tap wire is under heavy
tensile stress.

Did you enjoy the game class?

Okay very good!

B. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

Sir!
What have you notice in our spin the
wheel class? Wire splices
Splices joints sir!
Okay very good!

Common wire and splices joint our topic Sir, yes sir!
for today lesson, are you ready class!

LESSON PROPER
For us to have a better understanding about
our topic today, lets discuss the Common Wire
Splices and Joints.

1. Western Union Short-tie Splice. 1. Western Union Short-tie Splice.

This is the most widely used splice or
joint in interior wiring installation to
extend the length of wire from one
point to another

2. Western Union Long Tie.

2. Western Union Long Tie. This is
used extensively for outside wiring to
extend the length of wire from one
end to another.

3. Cross joint.
3. Cross joint. The same application is
done as in plain tap and the only
difference is that this tap is a
combination of two plain taps place
side by side with each other.
4. Wrapped Tap or Tee Joint. 4. Wrapped Tap or Tee Joint. This is
used on large solid conductors where
it is difficult to wrap the heavy tap
wire around the main wire.

C.GENERALIZATION

What are the 10 different common wire Students answer

and splices and joints? 1.Wrapped Tap or Tee Joint
2. Cross joint
3. Western Union Long Tie
4. Western Union Short-tie
Splice.
5. Duplex cross joint.
6. Aerial tap
7. Western Union Short-tie
Splice.
8. Western Union Long Tie.
Cross joint.
9. Cross joint
10. Wrapped Tap or Tee Joint.

E. VALUING

What types of joints is this? Students choose one material.

1. The same application is done as in

plain tap and the only difference is
that this tap is a combination of two Cross joint sir!
plain taps place side by side with
each other.

2. This is used extensively for outside

wiring to extend the length of wire
from one end to another.
Western Union Long Tie
I think you understand our topic for
today.
Yes sir!
D. EVALUATION
Instructions: Choose the best answer for each question below regarding common
wire splices and joints used in electrical wiring.

1. Which splice is most commonly used to connect two wires within a junction box,
creating a "pigtail" or flexible connection?
a) Y-splice
b) Knotted tap
c) Rat tail splice
d) Western Union long-tie splice

2. What type of splice is used to connect a branch wire to a main wire, where the
branch wire needs to withstand significant tension?
a) Plain tap joint
b) Aerial tap
c) Knotted tap
d) Duplex cross joint
3. A "Y-splice" is typically used for what purpose?
a) To extend a single wire to two separate circuits
b) To join two wires under high tension
c) To create a temporary connection
d) To connect a small wire to a larger wire
4. Which splice involves wrapping a smaller wire around a larger wire, often used for
connecting a tap wire to a main conductor?
a) Western Union short-tie splice
b) Wrapped tap joint
c) Rat tail splice
d) Duplex cross joint
5. When would you use an "aerial tap" splice?
a) For permanent connections in a junction box
b) To connect wires under high mechanical stress
c) For a temporary connection in outdoor wiring
d) To join two wires of significantly different sizes
6. What is the primary concern when choosing a wire splice for a specific application?
a) The color of the wire insulation
b) The gauge of the wire
c) The mechanical strength required for the connection
d) The length of the wires being joined
7. Which of these is NOT a common type of wire splice?
a) Pigtail splice
b) Britannia splice
c) Knotted tap
d) Duplex cross joint
8-10 what are the 3 types of switch?

V. Assignment

1. Draw at least five commonly wire splice and joint in A4 coupon bond.
