The Safety of Aviation
The Safety of Aviation
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. First of all, I would like to thank Allah, who has been
giving us blessings and mercies some extraordinary. In today’s event, in a very good
condition, I also want to thank the master of ceremony for giving me the opportunity to
deliver a speech today. My name is Ikhsan and today I’m going to talk about the safety of
aviation.
Aviation is one of the greatest achievements of modern civilization, connecting people across
continents and enabling global trade in a more efficient way. However, when we talk about
aviation, we always concern about an accident or hijacking—that's very possible to happen.
So, on today’s occasion, I would like to explain to you all the factors that contribute to the
safety of aviation.
First, when we start our journey to the airport, we’ll get to check-in counter, make sure our
absence and our carry-on is loaded to the plane. Hence, when we go to the gate to enter the
plane, we’ll have security checked. They want you to pass the metal detector, let your carry-
on be scanned.
Next, we start our boarding, our pilot will start their brief about flight path, weather in-flight,
landing decision, which airport to divert, and so on. Also, the ground crew is brief to check
the aircraft maintenance and loading our luggage, fuel, and so on. While still in the ground,
the pilot will start comms with the ATC, giving a clearance to taxi and take off, they called
by ground/departure ATC. Our cabin crew also brief us to support the safety of our flight and
help us in loading our personal luggage, fasten our seatbelt, etc.
While in the air, after they finishing the departure checklist, Pilots start to use autopilot to
reduce workload and stay in communication with the aerial ATC to give them a guidance
about the air traffic, weather or also a vector (if pilot needs emergency by landings). In the
aircraft, the radar traffic radar, weather radar, and many sensory equipment continuously
monitor the aircraft and condition around it to prevent collisions. We have TCAS, to prevent
mid-air collision. When we are flying too close to terrain, we have GPWS and the most
important things is the pilot and the first officer that operate the aircraft. Here on what they
see on the aircraft, they can make decision to change the flight path in case of bad weather, or
diverting (emergency) landing if worse thing happens.
When we get into an accident and got an emergency landing, ATC will prioritize our aircraft
to landing first and block all the traffic around us so the pilot can focus and communicate in
the aircraft. On the ground, we have fire fighter, medical, and aircraft security to help get out
safe from the airplane. The nation agencies like FAA, ICAO, etc. will start their investigation
on the accident, find all of the aspect that contributes to an accident, then they will announce
the report recommendations to even show regulation to prevent an accident happen in the
future.
In conclusion, the safety of aviation is a collective responsibility that involves not just the
pilots and engineers but everyone who plays a role in this industry. Let's thanks to continuous
improvements in training, technology, and collaboration so that our journey remains safe. Let
us all work together to maintain and enhance the safety standards by following all the
regulations. Also, dont make any speculation about aircraft accident until the agencies have
their report because it just makes too many misleading information. Thank you.
