Tooth Extraction

Instructions:

 Bleeding: Bite on the gauze pad placed over the extraction site for 30–45 minutes. Replace it
with a new pad if bleeding persists, or use a damp tea bag (tannins help clotting).

 Pain Management: Use prescribed pain medications or over-the-counter analgesics like

ibuprofen as directed.

 Swelling: Apply a cold compress to the cheek near the extraction site for 15 minutes on and
off during the first 24 hours.

 Diet: Stick to soft foods (e.g., soups, yogurt, smoothies) for the first 24–48 hours. Avoid hot,
spicy, or crunchy foods.

 Hygiene: Avoid brushing the area for 24 hours. Rinse gently with warm salt water starting
the day after surgery, 2–3 times a day.

Avoid:

 Smoking or using straws for 72 hours to prevent dry socket.

 Vigorous rinsing or spitting.

2. Dental Fillings

Instructions:

 Numbness: Avoid eating or drinking hot beverages until numbness from the anesthesia
wears off to prevent accidental injury.

 Sensitivity: Mild sensitivity to temperature or pressure is normal and should subside within a
few days.

 Diet: Avoid hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours, especially if an amalgam filling was
placed.

3. Root Canal Therapy

Instructions:

 Pain and Swelling: Some discomfort is normal. Use prescribed pain relievers or over-the-
counter medications as needed.

 Temporary Filling: Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until a permanent restoration is
placed.

 Hygiene: Brush and floss as usual, being gentle around the treated area.

Follow-Up:

 Return for placement of a crown or permanent filling to protect the tooth.

4. Dental Crown or Bridge Placement

Temporary Crown Care:

 Avoid sticky or hard foods to prevent dislodging the temporary crown.

 If the crown comes off, contact your dentist to have it re-cemented.

Permanent Crown Care:

 Mild sensitivity or discomfort is normal and should subside in a few days.

 Maintain good oral hygiene with brushing and flossing, especially around the gumline.

5. Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

Instructions:

 Gum Sensitivity: Expect some soreness or bleeding for a day or two.

 Diet: Avoid spicy or acidic foods for 24 hours.

 Oral Hygiene: Resume gentle brushing and flossing. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush.

 Rinses: Use an antimicrobial mouth rinse if prescribed.

6. Dental Implants

Instructions:

 Bleeding: Bite on gauze to control bleeding.

 Pain and Swelling: Apply cold packs and take prescribed medications.

 Diet: Stick to soft foods for the first few days.

 Hygiene: Avoid brushing the surgical site for the first day. Use a prescribed antibacterial
rinse.

7. Teeth Whitening

Instructions:

 Avoid foods and drinks that may stain your teeth (e.g., coffee, tea, red wine) for 48 hours.

 Use desensitizing toothpaste if sensitivity occurs.
