SCIENCE 7

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able

to:

➢The learner is able to Describe the components of a

scientific investigation.
➢The learner is able to Strengthen the value of using
scientific method.
➢The learner is able to Use the fundamental units of
quantities to standardize the exact value.
A. Definition of Science
▪Science is define as an organized and systematized
body of knowledge.
▪It is a field of study that explains the existence of
everything.
▪Science plays an important role in the development of
human lives.
▪Science is a very important field in the study of
human existence primarily because it became
the system itself on how human think accordingly
to its nature and environment.
▪Science enables man to think correctly in
according to the standards and norms of how life
should exist; and Science enables the search for
the truth of everything and of reality.
Science as a field of study also
have different branches in order to
categories many fields of education or
learning that will bring the truth of a
thing.
▪ Natural Sciences
A field of science that deals with natural phenomena that
happens in the existence of man and its surroundings. It
Is subdivided into different Branches.

a) Biological Science- field of science that studies

living organism such as plants, animals and human
beings, and its relationship with each other and its
environment, such as Biology, Zoology, Botany,
Microbiology, Cytology, Anatomy, etc.
a) Physical Sciences- field of science that deals with
non-living things such as Physics, Chemistry and
Earth Science, etc.

b) Applied Science - deals with the study of the

applications of science such as Technology,
Engineering, Architecture, Computer Science, etc.
▪As science is considered as a field of study,
▪seeks to explain the events of natural
phenomena in a reproducible way, use these
findings to make useful
▪done through observation and
experimentation of natural phenomena.
Scientific method is a way to answer scientific problems
that will eventually lead to better understanding of a thing
and definitely follows a systematic step by step procedure
that goes:
Step 1. Define the problem step
Step 2. Gather information about the problem step
Step 3. Form a Hypothesis Step
Step 4. Collect data step
Step 5. Experimentation Step
Step 6. Make a conclusion
Step 7. Communicate results
➢defined as the search for knowledge in order to answer
specific problem, or as any systematic investigation,
➢to establish facts, solve new or existing problems, prove
new ideas, or develop new theories, usually using a
scientific method.
➢The primary purpose for basic research is discovering,
interpreting, and the development of methods and systems
for the advancement of human knowledge on a wide
variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe.
➢relies on the application of the scientific method, a
harnessing of curiosity.
➢provides scientific information and theories for the
explanation of The nature and the properties of the world
around us.
➢It makes practical applications possible.
➢is funded by public authorities, by I charitable organizations
and by private groups, including many companies.
➢can be subdivided into different classifications according to
their academic and application disciplines.

In science things are learned how and why a thing happens through
investigation.
Things are studied why and how a thing happens with a certain
steps or processes.
Science applies certain methods and ways that will systematically
solve problems and explains why a thing behaves uniquely.
In solving a problem and finding the answer that includes the
process of investigation, these processes should be followed in
order to come up with conclusion that is systematically undertaken.
1. Establish a problem which you want to investigate.
2. Gather information about the problem.
3. Create a scheme or a way on how to solve the
problem, such as making an experiment. procedure,
survey questionnaire or data that directly observes a
phenomenon. All factors should be considered in
making a scheme in order that the investigation be
valid and limiting the scope of the investigation.

4. Execution of the scheme made in order to find the

effectiveness or result. This part includes the trial and
error stage in finding the answer. In scientific process
this is normally known as the experimentation stage.
5. Summarizing the result and interpreting the data
gathered. Usually this is presented quantitatively or
mathematically through graphs and visuals.

6. Presenting and information dissemination of the

result is the most important part so that others will
know what happen and how the problem is solved.
▪an investigation done to study a certain material or
phenomenon that involves scientific process to give
an answer to a certain problem or query.
The process of having an investigatory project
will lead to acquiring knowledge and solving
problems in scientific way. This means that every
result or answer will have a conclusive and factual
basis as it is a product of processes that proves
existence and observable phenomena.
A query or a problem in a certain thing or process will give
rise in conducting a science investigatory project. This problem
should be realistic enough to be investigated. Example problem
includes—
1. What materials can be extracted from a certain material?
2. What other purpose or importance a certain material have?
3. What will be the result if a thing is added into another?
4. How effective an improvised or invented thing will be?
5. What will be the result if a component is altered or replaced
with another component?
A science investigatory project is actually an
undertaking or an experiment that will prove the
significance and important of the thing/process
being studied. It includes scientific methods and
process that will make use actual
experimentation to show actual and observable
phenomenon innate in every material to be
studied.
Problem /Title

▪The main problem of the investigatory

respondents, area or place of the study,
time studied. The problem is the focus on
what to be studied.
▪ This part includes the basic information on the
main topic of the problem together with related
literatures to substantiate the reason why the
problem has been chosen. Specific and general
problems are elaborated in this part.
▪ These are the ways on how to solve the problem
that can be descriptive or experimental. A survey
questionnaire may be used in descriptive type of
study while laboratory process must be used in
experimental type.
▪Quantitative and qualitative
representation of the descriptive or
experimental result
▪Over all outcome of the study primarily
answering the general and specific problems,
analysis, and interpretation of the data
gathered is reflected in this part.
▪This part contains the whole processes and
results of the study. Recommendations are
also given for further improvement of the
study.
▪This part shows the necessary
documentations while undertaking the study
such as the bibliography, permits or even
legal documents and pictures to prove the
conduct of the study.
